2021 PROFESSIONAL FOOD COMPETITION WINNERS

With the wide variety of culinary genius and quality ingredients available in Sonoma County, it’s hard to imagine a better place to live than in a county filled with amazing foods crafted by the area’s top chefs and culinary masterminds. The judges of the Sonoma County Harvest Fair’s 2021 Professional Food Competition agree! Over the course of August and September, these industry experts sampled entries in eight categories, including Appetizers/Hors D’oeuvres; Breads; Cakes & Pastries; Charcuterie, Deli & Pantry; Desserts; Ice Cream; and Olive Oil, As usual, the judges were impressed with the abundant and wide-ranging talent of Sonoma County’s food artisans, handing out the highest possible awards to multiple entries in many categories. The Sonoma County Harvest Fair is proud to announce the winners of the 2021 Professional Food Competition. Appetizers Out to Lunch from Petaluma swept the competition taking home Sweepstakes Appetizer Exhibitor, winning top awards including Best of Show Appetizer for their smoked green string farm red potatoes with Berbere Spices and Romesco sauce. They also won Best Use of Lamb for their Bud’s lamb tenderloin lollipops with fresh mint and basil; Best Use of Poultry for their ground Petaluma poultry chicken slider with tamarind, green onions and cilantro; Best Use of Seafood for their rock shrimp and diced mango, red peppers, avocado and cilantro; and Best use of Vegetable/Fruit for their grilled Japanese eggplant wrapped around fresh ricotta with sundried tomato. Bread Costeux in Healdsburg was the Sweepstakes Bread exhibitor this year, winning also the Best of Show Professional French Breach for their Boule. They also won Best of Show Specialty Bread for their Seeded Batard. Cake & Pastry The Sweepstakes winner for Cakes and Pastries this year when to Costeaux French Bakery in Healdsburg. Mad Batter Cakery Co took Best of Show Cakes & Pastries for their gluten free carrot cake. Ice Cream Best of Show Ice Cream went to the Mariapilar Ice Creamery from Petaluma for their peppermint ice cream bar dipped in chocolate with crushed peppermint candy. Charcuterie, Deli & Pantry Society Bakery and Café in Sebastopol took the Sweepstakes award for Delicatessen/Charcuterie/Pantry. Mangia in Santa Rosa won Best of Show Charcuterie/Deli for their smoked applewood bacon, arugula and peaches. Sonoma Sauces in Santa Rosa won Best of Show Pantry for their Pineapple Wine Sauce. Individual Desserts Sweepstakes Dessert Exhibitor this year went to Society Bakery and Café in Sebastopol. Society Bakery and Café also took Best of Show Cookie for their Ginger Molasses. Bert’s Desserts from Petaluma won Best of Show Individual Dessert for their Blueberry Mini Tart. Wooden Petal from Santa Rosa won Best of Use of Local Products for their Gravenstein Apple Pretzel. Fleur Sauvage Chocolates from Windsor won Best of Show Candy. Olive Oil Trattore Farms in Geyserville earned Best of Show Olive Oil for their II Mezzo which is a California Grown blend.
