Dance Tap/Ballet I (CLAP ARTS)

Tap/Ballet I introduces children to the basics of ballet and tap, combining creative movement, grace and balance. Students learn basic tap steps such as shuffles, rhythm exercises, and springs, and elementary ballet including plies, tendus, passes, and the basic ballet positions. Instruction advances with age and ability of participants. Parents may stay for first 10 min of first class and are invited back at the end of program for a class demonstration. Suggested Attire: Comfortable clothes or leotards, tights and tutus. Students are encouraged to bring Tap and Ballet shoes, but may also wear closed-toe shoes for Tap and bare feet for Ballet.

HIP HOP (CLAP ARTS)

High-energy dance classes provide hours of fun while improving coordination, stamina and overall fitness. Dance steps are introduced in easy to understand language. Instruction is broken down to simplify the learning process, thereby helping to instill confidence in all dancers. Program culminates with an exciting presentation! Tap/Ballet I I (CLAP ARTS)

Tap/Ballet II reinforces the basics of both ballet and tap. Students learn rhythm, tempo, and musicality in tap while building on skills and foundations of ballet. Mini Gym Stars (DANCE ARTS ACADEMY) A great beginner gymnastic class teaching basic gymnastic skills, including movement exploration, balance, and coordination, and at the same time teaching agility and improving motor skills. Parents are allowed to stay for the first 10 minutes on the first day of class and are encouraged to attend the last class for a great recital. Scholarships Did you know that PRNS offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to those individuals and families in need? Whether you are looking for a preschool program, after school program, youth enrichment class, summer camp, adult class, or therapeutic program; PRNS is committed to providing access to our recreation programs. The scholarship application is available to download at sanjoseca.gov/ scholarships or you can inquire at your local Community Center.


SAN JOSE RECREATION PRESCHOOL Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:          

Requirements for a parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center. Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better. Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day. A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare. After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list. Monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. (A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option.—Kinder Prep & Little Learners only)

Three-year-olds are busy and curious. Our goal is to channel these wonderful behaviors and guide them into the world of learning. Classes focus on independence, social interaction, pre-literacy and pre-math skill development, language development, fine motor and gross motor activities. All Access-Therapeutics My Boundaries

Boundaries define who you are and what is important or acceptable to you. In this 8-week psycho-educational group, we will focus on building safety skills, improving communication skills, practicing good boundaries, and having healthy relationships. This program is geared towards adults with developmental disabilities. Participants must be able to function in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs.

Brief overview All Access Sports and Recreation (AASR) provides a wide range of programs for individuals of all ages with all ability levels, including those with ambulatory and cognitive disabilities

INCLUSION: Inclusion describes an approach wherein participants with special needs spend most or all of their time with non-disabled students. Inclusive programming is about how we develop and design our schools, classrooms, afterschool programs and activities so that all students learn and participate together.

Adapted Yoga

Designed for adults with developmental disabilities, this yoga class teaches gentle, relaxing stretches to increase strength, flexibility, and sense of calm, health and wellness. Fun for All

This class focuses on fun with music, games, arts and crafts, movement activities and a field trip. This play program is designed for children with developmental disabilities including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Children should bring a sack lunch to class each week. This introductory course for adults with developmental disabilities covers basic kitchen safety, basic menu planning, and preparing simple dishes. Urban Explorers

Get out and explore! Did you know that there are twenty-four unique trail systems and over 50 miles of trails throughout San Jose? Some may already be in your neighborhood! This is a Saturday walking club directed towards teens and young adults with disabilities. Each week, we will meet at the Roosevelt Community Center and travel using public transportation to different trails, museums, festivals and parks in the area. San Jose has a lot to offer its urban dwelling explorers. We'll learn about our unique natural and cultural history while meeting new friends and getting a little exercise. Digital Arts Program Brief overview The San Jose-Digital Arts Program provides hands on opportunities for middle and high school aged youth, to explore their creativity and selfexpression. Membership sites at Seven Trees and Roosevelt Community Centers, allow youth to engage in activities such as song-writing, beat production, music recording and editing, playing instruments, audio engineering, art, photography, film and more. During program hours staff are available to teach the digital arts to youth, engage them in digital arts projects and provide them with a safe environment after school. Staff mentor students in all facets of life and help them achieve educational and professional goals. Digital Arts Members are invited to participate in field trips, and special events with the program. During the school year, Digital Art classes will also be offered at other City of San Jose Community Centers, such as Mayfair Community Center. CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING Learn the art of brush painting. The instructor will teach the “Impressionistic style,” which is easier to master. She will start with basic strokes to draw orchids, and then gradually introduce other components, such as flower pot, insects, bamboo, minnow, etc. Learn at your own pace.
