High-energy dance classes provide hours of fun while improving coordination, stamina and overall fitness. Dance steps are introduced in easy to understand language. This tap/ballet class introduces children to the basics of both ballet and tap, combining creative movement, grace and balance. Students learn basic tap steps such as shuffles, rhythm exercises, and springs, and elementary ballet including plies, tendus, passes, and the basic ballet positions. Wear dance attire and bring tap and ballet shoes. Parents may stay for first 10 min of first class and are invited back at the end of program for a class demonstration. Music & Theater Beginning Guitar

Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen all started here, at the beginning. In Guitar Beginner, the primary focus is learning the basics of guitar. Intermediate Guitar Whether you’re aspiring to be the next Carlos Santana or Jimi Hendrix, come and progress and aspire to greatness with this Guitar- Intermediate class. Piano Discover the keys to your child’s future success. Studies show that children who are introduced to music have an IQ jump of 3 points in the first six months! Learning to play the piano is a great way to introduce a child to this world. Class starts with basic piano skills and music reading. Sports Karate (Kenpo) Level 1 (DRAGON CLOUD KARATE)

Mini Gym Stars (DANCE ARTS ACADEMY) A great beginner gymnastic class teaching basic gymnastic skills, including movement exploration, balance, and coordination, and at the same time teaching agility and improving motor skills. Parents are allowed to stay for the first 10 minutes on the first day of class and are encouraged to attend the last class for a great recital. Please Wear a leotard, stretch pants, sweat pants, or shorts. Bare feet during class is suggested. Children should secure long hair back in a ponytail. Course#

Skyhawks Basketball (SKYHAWKS) This fun, skill-intensive program is designed for beginning to intermediate players. Using our progressive curriculum, we focus on the whole player - teaching respect, teamwork, and responsibility. SAN JOSE RECREATION PRESCHOOL Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:          

Requirements for a parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center. Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better. Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day. A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare. After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list. Monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. (A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option.—Kinder Prep & Little Learners only)

Three-year-olds are busy and curious. Our goal is to channel these wonderful behaviors and guide them into the world of learning. Classes focus on independence, social interaction, pre-literacy and pre-math skill development, language development, fine motor and gross motor activities. All Access-Therapeutics Adapted Fitness

Jump start your fitness level! This program is located at a fully equipped Community Fitness Center and is designed for individuals ages 18 and up with a physical disability. Each participant will receive a customized workout program designed to achieve their personal fitness goals. Participants must be able to function in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care. Attendants will be required to pass a City of San Jose background check in programs that serve youth under 18 years of age. Course# 231.2.4106

A fitness circuit class for teens with cognitive disabilities. Urban Explorers

Get out and explore! Did you know that there are twenty-four unique trail systems and over 50 miles of trails throughout San Jose? Some may already be in your neighborhood! This is a Saturday walking club directed towards teens and young adults with disabilities. Each week, we will meet at the Roosevelt Community Center and travel using public transportation to different trails, museums, festivals and parks in the area. San Jose has a lot to offer its urban dwelling explorers. We'll learn about our unique natural and cultural history while meeting new friends and getting a little exercise. Digital Arts Program Brief overview The San Jose-Digital Arts Program provides hands on opportunities for middle school and high school aged youth, to explore their creativity and selfexpression. Drop in sites at Seven Trees and Roosevelt Community Centers, allow youth to engage in activities such as song-writing, beat production, music recording and editing, playing instruments, audio engineering, art, photography, film and more. During drop in hours staff are available to teach the digital arts to youth, help youth with class work, and provide them with a safe environment after school. Staff mentor students in all facets of life and help them achieve educational and professional goals. Program participants are invited to participate in field trips, projects and special events for the Digital Arts Program. During the school year, Digital Art classes will also be offered at other City of San Jose Community Centers, such as Mayfair Community Center.
