San Jose Recreation Program Little Learners (234.2.0302– English) (234.5.0304 Bilingual—English/Spanish) Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination, motor skills, and gain independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play and arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Children must be fully potty trained before the start of class. Requirements for parent attendance, volunteers, snacks, etc. varies by center. If you would like to add your child(ren) to our San Jose Recreation Preschool Programs we have prorate prices through out the year. Dance Tap & Ballet: This is an introduction class to both Tap and Ballet. The class combing creative movement, grace and balance. Students learn basic tap steps such as shuffles, rhythm exercise, and springs, and elementary ballet including plies, tendus, passes, and the basic ballet positions. Instruction advances with age and ability of participants. Parents may stay for first 10 minutes of the first class and are invited back at the end of program for a class demonstration. Suggested Attire: Comfortable clothes or leotards, tights, and/or tutus. Students may dance barefoot or wear ballet shoes. Students cannot dance in stocks or tights alone, must be barefoot or wear ballet shoes.

Music Drums 101: Have you ever wanted to learn how to drum but didn’t know where to begin? This

class will teach basic drum beats, introduction to music notes and develop coordination and rhythm, while having fun in a safe and learning environment.

Guitar for Beginners:Learn basic rhythm, chords, and tablature as well as playing with proper technique in a group setting. No experience necessary! Guitars available to play at Roosevelt Community Center bring your own pick!

Guitar Continuation Class: Continuation class in chords, tablature, note reading, theory, and fine-tuning your skills as a guitarist! Designed for continuing/experienced students. Bring your own guitar/pick to class. Piano Beethoven Beginners: Come learn piano with Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse! Students will learn music theory and piano basics in a fun and positive environment. Access to piano/keyboard at home is essential. Parent or guardian must attend with child.

Piano Keyboard (Beginner): For students with no previous experience. Learn the basics of piano in a fun and positive environment! Access to piano/keyboard at home is essential for progress. Bring a set of headphones with a 1/4” adapter for use in class.

Piano Keyboard (Continuing): A continuation class for students who have completed out beginners course. Children Programs Winter Recess Camp Roosevelt Academy After School Winter Recess Camp @ Roosevelt

At Camp San Jose your child gets an unforgettable, traditional winter camp experience for under $4 an hour! Your child will be playing crazy games, sports, creating cool arts & crafts projects, singing funny songs and embarking on a weekly, entertaining field trip. Our price includes a low leader to child ratio-10:1, field trips, skill building, new friendships, disguised learning and much more! Campers need to bring a lunch, water and sunscreen everyday. Check with your local community center for a complete list for field trip! For your convenience, Camp San Jose drop off starts at 8:00am. Extended care from 3:00-6:00pm is available for an additional cost. NO CAMP ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2016.

Extended Care is a great option for working parents. After camp each day, participants will have time to relax in a supervised comfortable environment. Long term art projects and low-key recreation activities will be provided. Program is for children 6-11 years old that are enrolled in any camp at Roosevelt. Each child will have to bring a snack unless instructed otherwise. If session does not reach the minimum number of participants are subject to cancellation.

This course will introduce you to some basic routines and guidelines of healthy living as well as enhance your knowledge of our fitness room and its machines. Boot Camp Cardio: Looking to take your cardio and strength to the next level all while having fun? Learn how to burn fat, burn calories, get fit all in one class. Combination of cardio exercises and strength training in a boot camp style. Spin: Indoor cycling with a group of participants as an organized activity. This class will focus on endurance, strength, intervals, high intensity, using a special stationary exercise bike. Yoga: This class will increase your strength, flexibility, inner balance, and vitality. This class focuses on relieving tension in proper alignment to enhance energy flow and posture. Programs for Adults with Disabilities Urban Explorers @ Roosevelt Community Center

Get out and explore! This is a Saturday walking club directed towards teens and young adults with disabilities. Each week, we will meet at the Roosevelt Community Center and travel using public transportation to different trails, museums, festivals and parks in the area. San Jose has a lot to offer its urban dwelling explorers. We'll learn about our unique community settings while meeting new friends and getting a little exercise. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs.

Programs for Children with disabilities Fun for All @ Roosevelt Community Center This class focuses on fun with music, games, arts and crafts, movement activities and a field trip. This play program is designed for children with developmental disabilities including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Children should bring a sack lunch to class each week. Participants must be able to function in a 1:3 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care. Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class: Requirements for parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center.

Teacher to child ratio is 1:10 or better. Participants must be toilet trained by first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day.

A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San José, Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare.

After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If a spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list. Monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option. (Kinder Prep & Little Learners only)
