Kinder Prep This class prepares your child for kindergarten with age-appropriate activities, learning concepts, socialization skills and fun. Your child will gain a basic understanding of shapes, colors, pre-phonics, literacy building (i.e. identifying letter sounds, writing the alphabet and simple words), number recognition, and counting to to 30. The goal is to have fun, participate, and learn. Requirements for parent participation will vary by center. Children must be able to use the rest room unassisted. Children must also be able to wear a face mask for the duration of each class. All children must have valid immunization records on file before the start of class. No child under the age of 4 years 9 months can be enrolled for over 12 hours of San José recreations per week.

Little Learners

Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions, and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination and motor skills, while gaining independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play, arts and crafts. Food will be provided for cooking activities and may be provided for special events. Requirements for parents participation will vary by center. Children must be able to use the rest room unassisted. FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING Ring in the new year with a Young Rembrandts class for your elementary student. Our building artists will have the opportunity to flex their creative muscle as they take on fun, artistic challenges like our Jack Russell Terrier and Chinese New Year lessons in the month of January. The month of February brings lots of fun and culture into the classroom as our students' imaginations are whisked away to a masquerade or into the mind of master artist Salvador Dali. EDUCATION & ENRICHMENT PUBLIC SPEAKING- BUILDING CONFIDENCE & WRITING SKILLS This course teaches young students the essentials of building confidence in public speaking. Taught using the fun concepts of (don't) show and tell, storytelling (scary and funny stories), reciting poems , pretend games, this is an excellent class to start developing confidence in young students in a fun way. The participant learn how to stand tall and speak confidently in front of a group. They begin to understand the concepts and importance of maintaining eye contact, good posture, volume and expressions.

BASKETBALL

This fun, skill-intensive program is designed for beginning to intermediate players. Using our progressional curriculum, we focus on the whole player - teaching sportsmanship and teamwork. Boys and girls will learn the fundamentals of passing, shooting, ball handling, rebounding, and defense. Required attire: Participants should bring a water bottle and wear appropriate clothing and shoes.

Learning basketball has never been more fun! Fun, skill development games are played as well as some introduction to basketball and team concepts. Some small-sided scrimmaging is played. Required Attire: Athletic clothing recommended, with close toed shoes for mobility. Please bring a water bottle.

MINI HAWK (BASKETBALL & SOCCER) Learning basketball has never been more fun! We use a variety of fun games to develop balance, movement, and basketball skills as well as listening to instructions. Very active and fun! Required Attire: Athletic clothing is recommended, with close-toed shoes for mobility. Please bring a water bottle.

This multi-sport program was developed to give 4 to 7 year-olds a positive first step into athletics. Sports are taught in a safe, structured environment filled with encouragement and fun. Through games and activities, campers explore balance, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace. VOLLEYBALL Skyhawks Volleyball takes the energy and excitement of this great team sport and puts it all together into one fun-filled program. SPORTS FUTSAL CAMP AGES 6-12 (FULL-DAY)

FUTSAL CAMP AGES 6-12 (HALF-DAY) Futsal is a fun, fast-paced 5v5 soccer game, played indoors within the lines of a basketball court (no walls), using a small, size 3, low bounce ball. This week long futsal camp is fantastic way to get into the game. weather you are trying futsal for the first time or are the next Beckham! Our highly trained professional coaching staff will ensure that your child will improve their technical skills and level of play all while having a great time. All participants will receive a Futsal Kingz T-shirt. Indoor shoes and shin guards are required.

TAI CHI BEGINNING Open to first-time registrants and to previous attendees who have not fully mastered the tai chi basics and the 24-form yang style tai chi routine. Beginning tai chi introduces new participants to the basics of Yang style tai chi. They will learn the names of and practice individual forms or movements and incorporate them into a sequence of forms to comprise the 24-form tai chi. POLICIES LEISURE CLASS POLICIES Our method of registration is designed to offer equal access to all San José residents. Customers can register for any class at the PRNS facility or online. The City can not guarantee participation from one session to the next. All online, walk-in, mailed-in, faxed, and dropped-in registration will be treated in the same manner. San José residents will be given first priority to register. Registration forms will be processed in the order they are received. Registration will be accepted until the second class meeting of the course is still available. Courses are unavailable when filled to capacity or canceled due to insufficient enrollment. If the course you request is full, you will be registered for your second choice or placed on the waitlist. Please be prompt when dropping off or picking up your child from his/her class. Children may arrive at class no earlier than the scheduled class or activity time. Children who arrive late to a class or activity should enter quietly and join in the activity. If a class instructor is absent or a class is canceled due to inclement weather, a make-up class will be added to the end of the session. Refund requests need to be made in writing and submitted to any PRNS facility or by emailing your request to: SJRegistration@sanjoseca.gov Refunds will be given for class cancellations received in writing by the City at least 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class. No refunds will be made for cancellations received by the City less than 14 calendar days prior to the start of the program/class. There will be a $10 refund processing fee for EACH activity and EACH child. It may not be possible to refund the class materials charged by the instructor. When the class fee is paid by cash or check, a refund confirmation will be sent by email. A refund check will follow 6-8 weeks after the refund confirmation. Credit card refunds will be credited back to the original credit card account within one week of the City’s receipt of the refund request.

TRANSFER POLICY Transfer requests need to be made two weeks prior to the start of the class in writing and submitted to any PRNS facility or by emailing your request to: SJRegistration@sanjoseca.gov Transfers may not be done online. Transfers must be done for classes or activities in the same season.

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT/CLASS CANCELLATION The City of San José Department of Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services reserves the right to cancel any class or activity that does not meet a set minimum enrollment. Please register early to avoid class cancellations. We will make every effort to notify you at least five days prior to the scheduled course starting date. Please do not purchase supplies until five days prior to the start of the class. If a class is canceled, you will receive a full refund from the City, excluding class supplies.

PREREQUISITES FOR CLASS Please note all requirements, dates and times for classes offered before enrolling. All participants must meet the age requirement on the first day of the class or activity.
