Cartoonists will learn the basics of cartooning in this lively class! Students build technical skills of cartooning as they learn shading, highlighting, perspective and color theory while creating animals, faces, people, etc. Intermediate cartoonists will create more intricate projects. From message decoding to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible message. Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes. LATE PICKUP POLICY The San Jose Department of Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services wants to ensure the safety and well-being of every participant. Participants must be picked up at the scheduled class end time. If, after five minutes, a participant is not picked up, we may charge $1.00 per participant for every minute thereafter. All fees must be paid prior to the participant returning to class. We understand that emergencies may happen. SAN JOSE RECREATION PRESCHOOL Please consider the following policies and requirements before registering for a San Jose Recreation Preschool class:        

Requirements for a parent participation, volunteer, snack, etc varies by center. Teacher to child ration is 1:10 or better. Participants must be toilet trained by the first day of program. Non-registered children are not allowed in the class at any time. Please make arrangements for siblings on your participation day. A birth certificate may be requested for age confirmations. The City of San Jose, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services provide recreational programs ONLY and not licensed childcare. After reaching the class capacity your child can be put on a waitlist. If spot becomes available at any SJ Recreation Preschool center, you will receive a call and be given the option to enroll at that center or to stay on the waiting list. Monthly payment plan is available, with auto-pay on the 20th of each month. A valid credit card must be on file for auto-pay option. (Kinder Prep & Little Learners only)

LITTLE LEARNERS Children will be introduced to socialization, positive self-esteem, following directions and simple learning concepts. Children will work on hand eye coordination, motor skills, and gain independence through the use of circle time, music, songs, stories, play and arts and crafts. The Almaden Community Center at (408) 268-1133 *Program will be closed during all holidays and breaks observed by the school. It is also closed on staff development and in-service days. The program will operate on all minimum days including those occurring during parent-teacher conference week.

50+ ACTIVE ADULTS The Almaden Community Center offers a variety of classes and programs for adults who are 50+! If you are looking for a more casual setting and the ability to interact with people who have similar interests, the programs for active adults offer a wide range of possibilities. You can brush up on your painting, learn how to play new card games, or step into some new dance skills while enjoying the company of those around you! All of our classes and programs are printed monthly in our Senior Newsletter which can be found at the front desk.
