Play Camp

Every kid wants to play! These day camps are designed for children with cognitive disabilities who need a higher level of staff assistance for participation, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Activities include arts and crafts, group games, circle time, a field trip, and more.

Children should bring a sack lunch to camp each day. Participants must be able to function in a 1:3 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care needs or bring an attendant with them. Attendants will need to complete City of San José background clearance (fingerprinting) and provide proof of vaccination status.

Teens Together

Everybody wants to have fun! Be social, make some friends, learn some new skills. This camp for teens with disabilities and their non-disabled siblings and friends will provide a safe and structured opportunity to be a teen. Some field trips, lots of games, crafts and other cool stuff! Teens must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio and be independent with their personal care, or provide an attendant.

Project Power! Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Camp

Is your child diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes or pre-prediabetes? Are they close to being diagnosed? Has your pediatrician encouraged your child to eat healthier, exercise more, or lose weight? If you said YES to any of these questions, then this camp is for you! Come have fun and learn about healthy lifestyle choices. This is a camp with art, sports, activities, healthy snacks, and diabetes education. A diabetes educator and dietician will be at the camp to answer questions and teach healthy living skills. Camp staff will get the kids moving and having fun! Ages 5-12. This camp is a joint collaboration between the City of San José and the American Diabetes Association.

Diabetes Camp Type 1

This collaborative day camp program is provided by the City of San José's Therapeutic Services and California Diabetes Association. There will be fun activities, outings, games, crafts, and diabetes education. Parental/guardian education meetings available as needed. Nursing staff will be on site to help monitor blood sugars and provide education to participants and families.

Wheelchair Sports and Recreation Camp (Inclusive)

Join us for a fun summer as we learn to play a variety of wheelchair sports activities, engage in arts and crafts, play social games, hang out with friends, and go on field trips.

Camp will include introductory and intermediate instructions in wheelchair sports for individuals with physical disabilities.

Camp will also include hand-on DIY arts and crafts where individuals get to explore their creativity side.

For field trips, we will meet at a designated location. More details to come!

Around the Town Club

We're back! It's time for us to go back in the community. Join us for a night on the town! This social club utilizes community activities which are selected by the group to improve socialization, leisure awareness and independent living skills. Try new things and explore your community with the support and encouragement of friendly, knowledgeable staff.

The first night of program will be held at the Camden Community Center. Location thereafter varies based on participants chosen activities. Members must be able to participate within a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and be independent with their personal care needs. Please note: registration fee covers staffing costs only. Additional fees may be required based on chosen activities. Masks will be strongly recommended when at the community center.

HIRLN (Head Injury Recreation and Leisure Network) invites you to join us for a night of singing and fun. We will meet at the entrance of Round 1 and spend the night showing off those vocal skills. Sing solo, sing as duos, or singing as a group we'll do it all.

An inclusive one time event for individuals ages 16+ to join and make 1 candle, with tons of scents, molds, and designing opportunities. Movie and snacks will be provided.

Bascom Group Arts

This program is geared towards groups of people with disabilities. Come check out the Bascom Community Center and relax with some arts and crafts. This program is designed to improve fine motor skills, creativity and social skills. You will be guided through art projects and specialty crafts.

Organization's staff must accompany clients in a 4 to 1 ratio. This class is not designed for individuals without staff/attendant.

Charcuterie & Paint Night!

An inclusive one time event for individuals ages 16+ to join and enjoy a premade charcuterie board by staff, and watercolor paint with a movie to set the mood!

Simply Cooking

This introductory course for individuals with disabilities (ages 16+) and it covers basic kitchen safety, basic menu planning, and preparing simple dishes. Menus will include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts. Class includes lecture, observation, and hands on preparation. Participants will receive instructional materials to take home. Class is conducted in a teaching kitchen which utilizes gas burners.

Participants must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care.

Beginner Wheelchair Basketball

Nothin' but net! Come out and shoot some hoops with your friends while you learn the exciting sport of wheelchair basketball. You will learn new techniques, skills, and practice drills. All ability levels welcome. No sports chair, no problem; we have extra sports chairs available to use during program. Tournament opportunities are available for big gamers. Don't miss out! Participants must be able to function in a 1:10 staff to participant ratio, and independent with personal care needs.

Advanced Wheelchair Basketball

This is a Wheelchair Basketball practice for advanced players who are competing at a high level. Don't miss out! Participants must be able to function in a 1:10 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care.

All ability levels welcome and we have extra chairs. This class is designed for manual wheelchair users. This class is on Wednesdays for 4 weeks.

Step2Step

Lets take a walk! Come join us for our walking club around the local area. This will be a once a week program where a group of us will meet at a designated location, we can walk laps or miles, chat and hang out while enjoying the summer evening. Location information and pickup/drop off schedule will be sent out prior to start of program. All participants must wear comfortable workout attire with walking shoes, and bring water. This class is designed for adults with disabilities but, anyone may join.

Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 participant to staff ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant with them.

Inclusive Active Sports Ranger Hike at Kelley

Let's play some table tennis, also known as ping pong! How about some basketball, or even some brisk walking as a group? This group is an inclusive group for those who want to come socialize and play table tennis, basketball, and stay active with friends! Participants must be able to participate in a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant.

Join us and the SJ Park Ranger team for a low intensity hike around Kelley Park. Learn more about the history of the park, including areas such as the Japanese Friendship Garden, and History Park! After some fun information from our Rangers, enjoy a small themed craft in the park.

Program will be taking place at Kelley Park. All participants will meet at Leininger Center at 10:00 a.m.

Virtual Music Mondays

Love to listen to music? Join us on Zoom where each night will feature a different music genre or theme such as Hits from the 90's, songs that won awards, or songs by your favorite singer. We can listen, sing, dance, and chat all about music. Participants will be able to requests songs via email or chat. This program is designed for persons with disabilities but, anyone may join.

Zoom link will be sent prior to start of program.

Virtual Let's Talk Movies

Love to watch movies? Join us on Zoom and let's talk movies! Each meeting will consist of a mixture of trivia questions, discussion questions, and whether or not you would recommend the film. All participants must be in attendance first meeting to select films as a group. Highly recommend to have access to the following streaming platforms: Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, or Amazon Prime. This program is designed for persons with disabilities but, anyone may join.

First day will be a meeting to pick films.
