Editors Notes Its June - YAY - and time to say buh-bye to single digit weather and hullo to summer! Even though its about a billion degrees outside, I can’t think of anything better than slapping on a pair of cut-offs, my fave pair of aviator Ray-bans and hopping into my car with my windows rolled down with my music blaring , whilst driving to nowhere in particular.. Ahhh the freedom... No matter how you wanna put it, the summer sun is something we all look forward to and celebrate. Its the season where we truly get to be creative and experiment, whether it be with our wardrobes and/or makeup - or we can just say to heck with it all and let the sun do all the work. We at SF are happy to be celebrating summer and to start you off just right, we have got some awesome summer dresses and tops in this months “Fab Finds” section, swimsuits galore in Asia’s hot “Wild Kingdom” shoot, as well as exclusive interviews with Sims3 Community Fashion Designer Extraordinaire - Rustynail; CStyles sweetheart - Miss Lochness and community up and comer, Chris Efron. And of course, for those of you looking for something a little more Haute fashion, check out Circa’s debut editorial - “Sail Away”, a nautical themed editorial sure to help you kick off those heels, feel the sand between your toes and join us in our summer state of mind... got you started making items for the Do you still enjoy playing the game?
Ah, I get this question a lot. Hahaha. I had a feeling that you were going to ask this question when you asked me for an interview. When I got the Sims2 for the first time, I was shocked by basic clothing. I was fully satisfied with bases for furniture and building. However, I thought it was impossible to dress a Sim with basic items. So, I searched foreign sites through internet Café. At first, I was only a regular user who downloads & uses. However, as you know human greed is endless. Haha.. Once I learned how to make
clothes through foreign forums/domestic, I started expanding my field to Custom clothing/Skin tone/ Hair edits/Mesh modification. Currently, I’m taking a break playing Sims 3. Until new expansion pack [Generation] is released in Korea, I will be playing Sims 2. I’m playing Sims 2 again for the first time in 2 years and I’m enjoying it a lot. I post not only items but also my play diary and screen shots from time to time to my Blog, but many people don’t seem to notice since the menu is in Korean. Please visit other categories on my Blog which are right above Update category. :) I write a play dairy and daily life and post screen shots of Sims that I play….well…in Korean though.
One thing that really makes your creations stand out for me is that you are equally skilled at men’s and women’s clothing. How do you decide what items to create?
Do you mean quality of both Men’s & women’s clothing is equally good? When I am inspired, and decided to make an item, I collect similar textures then started to create. I don’t have certain way of making item. I just go with whatever image comes to my mind (then unify clothes style).
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Nothing particular…I am self-sufficient, so I create a series if I think I needed it. Sometimes, other people’s screen shots gives me ideas for Sims. A great idea strikes me mostly when I listen to music, or while I watch runway collections. It may not make sense but I get ideas by color itself. (Ex: VAVA PINK series). Above all, I create/make things in the spirit of thankful and dedicated users who love my items. :)
You are very prolific and seem to update often. The selections are limitless. Do you work alone or do you work with other creators? I work alone. I kind of post a lot of them at once because I don’t feel like I am updating frequently enough. :)
How long does it generally take you to create a set of items? During the weekdays, I usually get home around 8pm, so I don’t have much time to organize textures and meshes. Even though I have a little time to work on it, usually I’m too tired to do much. Therefore, all work is mostly done on Saturday. If there’s a set and I do mesh modification, it can take 3 to 8 hours. This is a

hobby that I love so much, so sitting on the chair and looking at the monitor for a long time doesn’t bother me at all. Hahaha.
I wish I could make the things you do. Do you have any advice for aspiring creators?
time….I made a New Year’s resolution that is to communicate with other users. One user asked me if I have face book, now I just started to use twitter. I’m not sure if I can keep up with it but it is @_ RUSTYN. I hope many people register it. I take a break sometimes, but your encouragement and many numbers of downloads give me a strong motivation to update steadily. :) It will be great if you can leave any comments… I’m very excited that I was interviewed.
I think I should accept all comments on the items that I created from my users to improve. Sometimes, I feel doubts about what I’m doing when I receive unreasonable slander or ridicule. However, this is what I love to do, so let’s enjoy it!!!
A thing that I want from the Sims is that there are many users like me in Korea, so I would like to see more Korean language options. And, thanks to AsiaShaMecca. I had a few interview requests in the past but rejected all of them because I felt so burdened and thought I wouldn’t do well. However, I couldn’t say no to your request because I was so impressed when I received your email with translation in Korean. Thank you so much. I like to create items as long as the Sims keeps going. Thanks again!!
What tools do you use to make your content?
I use TSR Workshop / Milkshape 1.8.2 / Photoshop CS4.
I’m not sure if I’m competent enough to give advice to other people but I think creating items is a hobby. Hobby is, as it means, activity that you enjoy doing it, right? I want you to have fun and enjoy creating it.
In closing, is there anything you would like to say to your many admirers? Also what would you like to see more of in the Sims and in the Sims community as a whole? I used to upload items only to my blog for a long

MODEL CREATOR SPOTLIGHT Sims Style Parade: Miss Lochness
At SF we are always scouring the net for memorable faces. Many many times we find that perfect model at Sim Style Parade. Memorizing ladies and drool-worthy men, Miss Lochness has them all and keeps turning out gorgeous Sims without seeming to take a breath. How does she DO it? We were lucky enough to find out... ASM: Before we get started thank you so much for taking a moment to talk with us... Please tell us a bit about you? ML: Thank you for asking me to do this! Well, my name is Vanessa and I currently reside in Australia. I’m a Registered Nurse working in Intensive Care. It’s long hours, so this game is really an outlet for me. The name Miss Lochness was actually given to me by a work colleague! I’m known as Ness there and someone didn’t recognise the name and when I informed them it was me, they said “oh like the Loch Ness monster? You’re Miss Loch Ness!” It stuck obviously. ASM: We’ve been huge fans of your Sims for so long. We practically do happy dances at SF when you post a new hot Simmeh. How long does it take you to turn out these beauties?

ML: Aw, thank you very much! Oh... what a question. It depends on what ideas I have in my head at the time. If I know exactly what also gathered a lot of experience with it. It’s features I want, what CC I want to use etc, then it can only take me a few hours. If I have a vague idea of what I want, or if what I have in mind is just too difficult, then it can take me weeks. I constantly make over my Sims as well. So much beautiful CC can come out between me making a Sim and releasing it, so a lot of the time I drag my Sims back into CAS and re-do them. Often when I have them all dressed, so to speak, I’ll notice something in their features that I don’t like or isn’t quite right and I’ll go back and edit their facial structure again. I tend to modify their body shapes dependant on what I clothe them in as well.
ASM: I noticed originally your blog was intended to be a “finds” site. What inspired you to start posting Sims instead? ML: You did?! Wow that is going BACK!! The reason I decided to post Sims instead is that I discovered MS3B and decided that that aspect of The Sims 3 was covered well enough and didn’t need my help. I used to frequent The Sims Cave quite a lot, and was inspired by all these other creators that had the guts to release their Sims and I thought “well, maybe I should
ASM: Do you have any favorites and why? ML: I have many favourites. I love each one of them, but I’ve found my latest Sims I seem to favour more. Perhaps because my style of creating has definitely changed a lot since I begun. I am sure everyone looks back at their older creations and just covers their eyes in pure horror and embarrassment! My favourites, definitely The Kristoffersen Sisters, especially Anouk. I also love Paige, Eirene and Aimee, Jason one of my few male Sims and I have a few I haven’t released yet that top those.
give it a go”. My cousin who also plays this game, always complimented me on my Sims, so I took a chance and it paid off.character. Sometimes when you try a game character or celebrity, the Sims 3 engine has troubles with some facial structure or they look kind of odd.
ASM: When you create Sims what challenges you? You manage to avoid the Base Game “Simmy” look. Do you have tricks or tips you would like to share? ML: The biggest thing that challenges me is creating the Sim as life-like as possible. A lot of people don’t like realism in this game, but I do. I will re-do, scrap, delete a Sim if it does not appear “real” to me. The best tips I can give is know your facial anatomy and structure, know what looks “real” and not over exaggerated. It’s easy to make the eyes too big and often when you decrease the scale they can look too small, but that’s a trick to getting the Sim to look life like. Choose your skintones carefully, some skins out there are fantastic for achieving that realistic look and some aren’t. Also be very familiar with your make up, especially blushes. SoftGLO by KittyKlan is a must have for me. The way you use your makeup, and how you colour it, can create a huge difference in the way your Sim appears.

I am all for constructive criticism, and there were a few at the time that offered me that, but some weren’t. I didn’t know that it was happening to everyone and that I needed to ignore it, so naturally I wanted to quit. The reason I didn’t quit, was all due to some very good friends that I had made through my blog and through Cstyles. I had this outreach from people telling me to just ignore it and keep going. I have to credit them and also EvaTer, Q-Girl and Cecesaun1 for taking the time to talk me out of it! If it weren’t for them, I would have left a long time ago. EvaTer suggested I just take a break, which is what I did, and then review my decision when all my emotions had calmed down. That experience definitely gave me a bit more of a backbone. It also made me look at what some of them had said and say to myself “well, they have a point on this and they have a point on that. Maybe I should change that up a bit”. When I started creating again, my style had changed. For the better I believe. I still lean towards the same characteristics I always have, but I like to think I do it less frequently now.
ASM: There was a time when you were ready to quit creating Sims. Why was that? What changed your mind? ML: I think that time was the first time I was ever vocal about wanting to quit. I was still very new to the community and as we know, this community can be harsh on any creator. I was, as many were and still are, being heavily criticised for everything about my Sims. Obviously when you spend so much time working on these creations and somebody points out something that isn’t perfect or they don’t like, or even just criticises it for fun, you get upset. The thing that bugged me is that a lot of the criticism I received wasn’t even constructive at that time.

ASM: I understand you recently became a featured creator at CStyles. Congratulations! How did that come about? ML: Thank you! I’ve been a member of Cstyles just shy of a year now. A majority of my creations are exclusive to Cstyles and I’ve always shared my works in progress with the gang over there. Basically, a month or so ago, I was contacted by Cece and Evie and was offered the position to become a Featured Artist on the forum. Obviously, I said yes. I am honoured to have that position and Cstyles is a great place. ASM: Whats coming up for you? Any hot new Simmehs we should be keeping an eye out for? ML: Plenty of new simmehs are in store! I went through a creative block for about 2 months and it finally lifted a few weeks ago. Right now I’m experimenting a lot with body shapes. I have stuck to the small waisted, big hips Sims for a while now, so I am trying out some curvier Sims. I am travelling over to the far right side of the weight slider in CAS. :D I’ve found if you abuse the body sliders by Jonha enough, you can achieve some interesting and beautiful shapes. We don’t have enough womanly Sims in this game. I feel they are under represented, so I am going to try and fill the void.

from the Sims? And what would you like to see more of in the Sims community as a whole? ML: I think my dreams came true when they released the trailers for Generations and Pets. I loved the Pets expansion in TS2, and I believe Generations looks a lot like that Kids Stuff Pack. Like a lot of people, I would also love to see Seasons for TS3. I miss having snow :) Some of the actions and moods you could get from that expansion back in TS2 were great. I also want zombies and werewolves. If we had zombies, I would be having my Sims popping out zombie babies left, right and centre. In regards to the community as a whole, I think we’re okay as we are. I guess I could say that I wish that some simmers could be a bit more gentle on creators out there but there is no point to that. The community wouldn’t be what it is without them. :D

e’ve all seen him around. He is usually up to his no-good deeds of telling us something is wrong, and we are going to have to wait for who-knows-how-long. We ran into him in Bridgeport at The Grind. Our after work party was just getting into a nice groove. Then, in through the door walked Mr. Plaid Buzz Kill himself, Liam. He somehow convinced the doorman nothing was wrong. He just wanted to relax and dance a bit. Maybe it was because we no longer found dancing on the counters all that challenging. Or maybe it was because we all had too many Spline Reticulators. Whatever the cause, we decided not to go the simple route and play the usual game of hate-the-messenger. Instead we opted for a new game: makeoverthe-messenger. Thus began Project Liam for our designers and stylists.

Gaia &the IGreedna& Goddesses of
the Gold
Green Gaia is the mother of all rich growing things. Her eye’s are the focal point and the almost shimmering natural green shadow brings to mind a verdant field. Ida wears an even more subtle brush of Gold. For both, the liner is dark but softened by brown rather than black tones. Barely there blush simply accentuates the cheek bones without seeming to have any color at all. Soft glowing perfect skin and nude lips complete the look. For Gaia a soft shine, for Ida, matte with the barest hint -of course- of Gold.

Goddess of the Sun Kissed Field
Sun-bronzed Shala truly brings to mind the warmth of Summer. Her over-all look is natural but still striking in its golden blow. Barely there of no shadow would work best here. For the urban deprived, Bridgeport was a good start but soon grew a bit... bland. If you like your Sims to have the feel of real life, you go looking for “real cities”. There are a few to be found. Coasterboi’s Los Aniegos and jay6754’s London Project come to mind. But one thing is clear, in the land of Sims there are worlds and there are WORLDS. While trolling the net -looking for the ideal home for her new generation no doubt- our Editor in Chief, Madison1909 found a World-in-Progress that must truly be seen to be believed. The images for Chris Efron’s New York Project have literally stopped us in our tracks. We had to know more about this amazing ambitious build slated for release in November. And once we did... we HAD to share it with you.

ASM: Usually we come across creators through the Sims community sites but starting from Facebook we know nothing about you as it relates to the Sims. Chris please us a little bit about yourself. CF: I love the Game, I’ve been playing since the first Sims, so I’ve grown up with it. The development of the game is great! It always gives me more freedom to live out my creativity. I love to build houses and set them up. I prefer the modern style furnishings, bright colors contrasting with darker colors. There is not much to tell about me. I’m shy. :) ASM: Could you tell us more about your world? CF: In my world I use just my ideas and imagination. Straight lines with strong contrasts. In downtown Manhattan you can find exactly those things. The tall skyscrapers, the small gardens and each building is unique. In the north of the city the buildings are getting smaller. I think this World is for everyone’s taste. I prefer more the downtown and the residential area. Others may tend to the outskirts of town with its many gardens and nature. I think I can say that it is the largest city ever there was in Sims. ASM: What inspired you to begin The New York Project? CF:It all started when I learned the building techniques with which one can build skyscraper. So I’ve built the World Trade Center. One of my first buildings in my town. It was very large perhaps too large. In Bridgeport, it seemed out of place! The whole city was like a small village and in the middle was this big building! I searched the Internet on New York or the Sims. I thought that it would be easy to find something that would fit with my Twin Towers. I found some things, but they were not nice. So I began to try out the CAW tool. I must say, it was really complicated. My will, however, was large enough to create the city. She is now, I would say, about a third done. I’m looking forward to when it is finished. I noticed a comment in your image notes that this is your first world?!? You don’t start small do you? How do you begin a world this fleshed out and detailed? CF: Yeah it is. New York was the reason to use the “CAW tool”. In the beginning it was hard but now it’s easy. I wanted to start big. I Love New York. It’s a great town and there’s so many things you can do. I would say thats what made Bridgeport boring compared to New York. Since I am well aware of how the city looks, I build from my knowledge. I love working from detail. I am a Perfectionist and if something does not fit me, it will be made to fit.
ASM: Having been to New York many times I was particularly astounded by a lot of the accuracy. Did you use maps? What was your method for transferring something this well plotted into such a basic tool as CAW? CF: I don’t use maps. But I did look at New York by “birdseyeview” in Google Earth. I also see much in my thoughts and then put it in the game. ASM: I see from some of your pictures you’re play testing the interiors. The modern decor is AMAZING but you motioned you don’t upload homes. Will all of your city be as beautiful on the inside as the outside? How much of NYC will we be able to explore in the final result? CF: My goal at the end will be to make all the houses habitable. And I mean all. In South Manhattan there are many clubs, bars and lounge’s. In Middle-Manhattan are many Spa’s and apartments. So, from district to district, other types of buildings can be found. So that every
district its own flavor. Who loves parties resides more in South-Manhattan, who may prefer more natural lives in the suburbs. But no matter where he lives, all houses will be walkable and liveable.
