CELEBRATION: Leigh Adams outside of her Sanctuary House salon in North Shields

LOCAL ADVERTISING FEATURE

FROM FAMILY HOME TO SUCCESSFUL SALON SANCTUARY HOUSE CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF SUCCESS

A

woman who set up a beauty salon from her parents’ Edwardian home in North Shields is celebrating its 20-year anniversary.

Leigh Adams moved into the property in Upper Norfolk Street with her husband and three children in 1995 and quickly saw the potential the beautiful building had for a salon. The 58-year-old pooled all of her resources into making her dream a reality, and now, 20 years later, Sanctuary House is a hugely successful business with eight therapists offering treatments from holistic to hairdressing. The women, who are all good friends, cite the unique feel of the building, the fantastic treatments offered, and support they have for each other as reasons for the business’s success. Leigh said: “When we moved here the building just had such a lovely feel and ambience, I knew it could be a wonderful sanctuary for people to come and enjoy a treatment. “It was a scary decision and very hard to be an independent business woman then. Initially I thought it may be a short-term business, but I had three children under five and I needed an income. “A lot of people thought it would never work! Things were so different for women in the 90s, they didn’t prioritise themselves and couldn’t justify taking time out for a treatment. “Over time women’s perceptions have changed about having treatments and women come here to feel empowered. We get people from all walks of life, from an 80-year-old who has never had a treatment to others who are regular and like to look after their appearance or well-being.” Leigh, who has worked all over the UK as a beauty therapist and had many worked with many famous faces, now works alongside 10 other women - including her daughter Lili who runs an interior gift shop from the premises. Sanctuary House’s anniversary coincides with the 2018 ‘Year of the Woman’ which the therapists believe is a pertinent link. Leigh added: “Women deserve to have time for themselves. I would encourage any woman out there with a business idea to give it a go, I never imagined I’d be here now, but I feel very lucky. “I love being in North Shields, I have never met such a fantastic, eclectic bunch of amazing people anywhere else.” Sanctuary House still maintains the original features of the Edwardian property, while offering everything from

modern aesthetic procedures, hairdressing and beauty, to holistic and hypnotherapy treatments, with the salon billing itself as a one-stop shop for health and wellbeing. Julia McCarthy, Holistic Therapist at Sanctuary House, said: “So many people come here and feel at home, clients get a lot of one-to-one TLC from their individual therapist, they form a trusting relationship with them in an environment that is relaxing and homely.” This is a sentiment shared by Christine Jordan, the salon’s nail technician. She said: “Sanctuary House is an escape from home, it is so relaxing, very welcoming and unique. It is a comfort for our clients to know who they are going to get when they book a certain treatment.” Despite the salon being originally a ‘house’ it boasts seven rooms, three floors and even a hairdressing salon and has welcomed thousands of clients through its door since it opened. Anne Patterson, who has run the hairdressing salon at Sanctuary House for 11 years, said: “What makes this place special is that this is a cooperative, we are all self-employed but work under the same umbrella and it is lovely. We have the support of everybody who works here while still being individual, successful business women.” Sanctuary House is at 3 Upper Norfolk Street in Northumberland Square, one of the best preserved Georgian squares in the North East. For more information please go to sanctuaryhouse.co.uk, search ‘sanctuaryhouse’ on social media or call 0191 2577774. 11

THE FLOWER OF THE EAST The Venetians once dubbed Zante – or Zakynthos as it’s also known – ‘The Flower of the Orient’, thanks to its lush countryside. And it’s a nickname that still rings true today. Olive groves, lemon trees and bougainvillea cover the whole island, peeking out from between rolling hills. By Richard Wilson

hilst some people think they need to travel to the other side of the world to experience the best beaches, the bluest seas, tropical conditions and the finest food, we think we have found a destination a lot closer to home, which delivers in abundance on each of the above points. Zante, also often known as Zakynthos, is just over 3 hours from Newcastle airport, and gives holiday makers everything they can get from faraway holiday, without the extra expense or hours added on to your journey! Zante is the most southerly of the Ionian Islands, a small group of islands just off the West Coast of Greece, and is one of the most popular Greek islands. Triangular

in shape, the island of Zante has three distinct geographical areas. The north-west is mountainous with quaint traditional mountain villages, the central region is a fertile plain rich with olive groves and vineyards and the south-east is characterised by beautiful beaches. There is something for everyone on the island, with numerous sandy beaches, mountain villages preserving the traditional Greek way of life, beautiful natural scenery, water sports and good quality restaurants, bars and nightclubs to more than cater for all your entertainment needs. The locals welcome tourists with open arms, and offer them the hospitality which Greece is famous for. Zante’s coastline is just as

impressive as its interior. Sandy shores give way to turquoise seas, caves, and hidden coves, with rugged cliffs offering up grandstand views of the Ionian sunsets. Another part of Zante’s appeal is the fact it caters for all sorts of holidays. Laganas is the place to go for the big clubs, while Tsilivi’s streets are brimming with bars and restaurants. Head for the likes of Alykanas and Kalamaki, meanwhile, and you’ll find soft sands and a more go-slow pace. The resort we will focus on is Tsilivi, a resort which has grown in size and popularity over recent years, yet has still kept its Greek charm. Tsilivi is located just 6km from the capital of the island, Zante Town, on the East coast of the island, and is around 15 minutes via transfer from the airport. The resort has expanded over the last decade or so due to its popularity with couples and families alike, but has still managed to maintain its traditional Greek feel and picture postcard surroundings of olive groves and vineyards. The beach at Tsilivi is one of the best on the island, and is a 2km stretch of soft sand, shallow clear waters and beach side bars and tavernas. It definitely deserves the prestigious Blue Flag it has been awarded! The beach is child friendly and safe for the kids to enjoy, as the sand shelves gently in to the sea and the water is shallow for

"Locals welcome tourists with open arms, and offer them the hospitality which Greece is famous for. over a hundred meters. There are numerous wathersports on offer for the more energetic, and the beach is ideal for families, couples and anyone feeling adventurous. The old resort centre has beautiful stone lines streets, an old chapel, and many gift shops catering for all your needs. In recent years the resort has also gained a reputation for its nightlife which, although is nowhere near the lively Laganas, has an abundance of friendly family run bars, restraunts and tavernas on offer, providing a fantastic night for everyone. There are a fantastic selection of tavernas, all of which are family run, with many growing their own produce, making the traditional dishes even more unique and flavoursome. Tsilivi has a real family friendly atmosphere, beautiful scenery, a spectacular beach, wonderful food, great nightlife, not to mention endless hours of sunshine! In short, it has everything you could wish for from a holiday destination!

PLACES TO STAY St Johns Villas

Ideally situated on a grassy hill on the outskirts of Tsilivi, St Johns Villas offer panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, the village itself and the long sandy beach. The complex consists of 21 villas in total, all with panoramic stunning sea views. There are two types of villas, three bedroom villas measuring 130sqm, or two bedroom villas measuring 100sqm and all have their own private entrance, private parking, gardens and swimming pool. The villas themselves each have their own private pool, with many benefiting from a landscaped lawn area, and all have plenty of sunbathing areas. Each villa is constructed to a high standard and decorated throughout in a modern contemporary design. All of the two bed and three bed villas are luxuriously furnished, with all the facilities that will make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. They all have air-con, individually controlled in each room, multiple shower rooms, a full kitchen, TV’s, a DVD and a secure safety deposit box. The complex also includes a snack bar, a more traditional restaurant, a gym, a beauty salon, a pool table and a mini market. The villas have recently

TRAVEL

undergone modernisation upgrades to maintain their 5 star standards, and the complex itself has new features and services. One fantastic new addition is the breakfast buffet which, for 8.50 euros, represents excellent value for money given the quality of the food! The only thing to note is the hill is quite steep, so car hire is recommended. If not, please allow around 7 euros per trip to the village centre by taxi.

Contessina Hotel

The modern 90 bed hotel has a modern, contemporary feel, yet has still managed to maintain its Greek charm. The hotel is ideally located, only a 2 minute stroll from the beautiful beach, with the main strip of shops, bars and tervernas a 2 minute stroll in the other direction. Don’t worry though, in the evening you cannot hear the noise from the bustling strip, as the hotel is well set back and the evening sounds do not travel to the hotel. The rooms are quite large, with ample sized balconies and most look out on to the pool and bar area. The pool is large enough to accommodate the amount of guests, and there is a pool table, cinema style screen showing movies and sports, and a pool side bar serving a very good standard of food. This is a very high standard Greek hotel for the price, and represents really good value for money given the quality of the rooms and location.

Tsilivi Waterpark

PLACES TO VISIT Tsilivi Waterpark

The waterpark is situated on the outskirts of Tsilivi, just off the main road at the North end of the village. There are a good selection of waterslides on hand to suit everyone, from those young in age, to the young at heart! There is a lazy river and a dedicated children’s area. Sunbeds are a plenty, and the park is never too busy, so there are always plenty available, and this also means the queues are never too long for each ride.

Bowl’m Over

When you think of a beach holiday, indoor ten pin bowling is not something that immediately springs to mind! However, Bowl’m Over does offer a nice alternative to the normal holiday activities and, especially when the sun becomes that little bit

too much, or the kids are reaching boredom thresholds, can provide a real fun afternoon or evening. Bowl’m Over is a state of the art bowling centre, offering 4 bowling lanes and so much more! There are also a good number of pool tables, air hockey tables, a dart board, amusements, a children’s play area and an indoor bar. Once you have expelled all of your energy, there is also a manicured lawn at the front of the centre, with relaxing seated areas for you to while away the evening with one of their renowned cocktails! Oh, and if you are a dog lover, be sure to say hello to the owners friendly sidekick!

Fantasy Mini-Golf

Set in the heart of Tsilivi, just off the main road, you will find the very well maintained Fantasy Mini Golf. There are 3 fun packed 18 hole crazy golf courses, which are fun for all the family. Each course is beautifully laid out, with water features, fun obstacles and challenging undulations, all making for a challenging fun round. The staff are really friendly and will advise you as to which is the best course for you and help you out with the rules and any questions you have. There is even a fully stocked bar to help you either commiserate or celebrate your victory!

Romios Restaurant

PLACES TO EAT Romios

Set just outside the centre of the village, with easy access from every direction, Romios is an idyllic traditional Greek taverna full of character. The view at sunset from the top tear is spectacular, and the food is a perfect match. They do a full traditional Greek menu, and you will find all of the classic favourites, mixed with a nice selection of seafood and meat dishes. The stand out dish is the traditional shared Meze for two, which consists of the usual selection of meze dishes, plus a few little extra additions, all with Romios unique ingredients and flavours. This is one of the finest restaurants in the resort, and a must visit on your stay.

Dionisios Grill

Set off the main road, and only about 200 yards from the Contessina Hotel (turn right when you leave the Contessina and walk the 200 yards and you will see it on your right), this fantastic little family run taverna is a real hidden gem. The restaurant benefits from stunning views over the Ionian Sea, and the staff make you feel welcome from the minute you arrive, until the minute you begrudgingly leave! The food is traditional Greek (why would you eat anything else!), and the stand out dishes are the Beef Stifado and the Lamb Kleftiko, both cooked with home grown produce giving it that extra special freshness.

FURTHER AFIELD Vassilikos Beach

Situated on the Southeast part of the island, and around a half hour car journey from Tsilivi, Vassilikos has some of the most spectacular beaches on the island. The drive itself takes in some beautiful coastal views and, once you have arrived, you will be greeted with miles of unspoiled, uncrowded golden sands and turquoise waters. There are a handful of eateries set back from the beach, all of which serve a great selection of traditional Greek dishes and beach side snacks. The chef salad comes particularly recommended!

Laganas Bay

Laganas has a lot more to it than its endless array of pubs and clubs. The beach and surrounding bay and islands are home to spectacular sea

life, non-more so than the endangered and rare loggerhead turtles. The turtles migrate to Laganas Bay each year during the months of June, July and August to lay their eggs. The beach is protected during this time with ecologists watching the area round the clock. You can take boat trips around the bay and marvel at these beautiful, peaceful animals, without spoiling their natural habitat. Just off the bay there are the beautiful mini islands of Cameo Island and Marathonisti (nicknamed turtle island because of its amazing likeness in shape to the animal), and the spectacular blue caves. You can pre-book trips to any or all of these from a number of local agents in and around Tsilivi.

Keri Caves

The beautiful Keri Caves are located in the South-West of the island and are only accessible by sea. There are many boat trips available and booking early is advised as,

TRAVEL

especially in the Summer months, they are extremely popular. Along the coast there are many caves which entrances scarcely are barely wide enough to seim in to, others are broad enough to enter directly with a boat. While visiting the caves, it is possible to stop to swim or sunbathe in one of the many small beaches of Marathia Cape or to reach by boat the Mizitres. Mizitres are two crags very close to the cliffs that form a small beach of very fine sand, reachable only by boat. You can get really up close and personal with the sea life, so remember to bring your snorkel! Keep a particular eye out for the huge array of starfish.

Shipwreck Beach

On the North West coast of the island you will find Shipwreck Cove or Smugglers Cove, also called Navagio Beach, which is probably the most famous beach in Greece, and

Enjoy a swim around the caves

can only be accessed by boat. This picturesque beach has been photographed and featured in many holiday brochures, travel books and televised advertisements. The boat was shipwrecked back in 1980 after hitting rocks in bad weather while being pursued by the Greek Navy who suspected it was carrying contraband cigarettes (an accusation found to be untrue). Shipwreck Beach is enclosed within large steep cliffs, which give it this remote, inaccessible feel. Because of that, it is impossible to walk to the beach, instead you will need to

take the boat. Frequent boat services are available from nearby ports and harbours and excursions can be booked from a number of outlets in Tsilivi. One thing to note however, if you are planning to lounge in the sun whilst you visit the shipwreck, bring all necessities with you as there are no facilities in this secluded bay. A sun umbrella is a must, as the heat radiates off the white cliffs and there is no shade on the beach to get away from it, especially at midday and through mid-afternoon.. For this reason, and the fact it is so popular and can get VERY busy, the best times to visit are either early in the morning or after 4pm. So, whether it is a relaxing break in the sun, an action packed adventure, or a fun family holiday you are looking for, no need to travel to the other side of the world – give Zante a try, the only problem is you won’t want to leave!

ith their animal focused approach to pet care, My Pet HQ set out revolutionise the industry, promoting animal wellbeing through the values of education, value and fun; offering pet owners traditional products alongside new and innovative brands. Speaking about My Pet HQ’s vision, Caroline Coppen, one of the founders said: “Since we first launched the business, we’ve been very much focused on how to educate pet owners to make choices that will allow their pets to lead healthier and happier lives. We offer a huge range of natural products, environmentally friendly ones, but really it’s always been about community. When people come into the Morpeth store, they don’t just love our huge range of products, they love feeling that they’re part of something.” Having collected multiple local business awards over the last 12 months, the store has proved itself well loved by the locals. Ken Brown, Chair of Morpeth Chamber of Trade said: "The team at My Pet HQ are very hard working, not just in their store but also in the community. They set a great example for traders in the town. Not only do they have a great range of products and provide excellent customer service but they get involved in, and lead on, many projects that help make this town a great place to

Building on the already strong community feel of the Morpeth store, My Pet HQ are looking to further expand their services with the opening of My Pet Café.

work, shop and live. They are a very welcome addition to the town." Since the store opened its doors back in June 2017, My Pet HQ has pushed the boundaries of a traditional pet store, offering customers a whole range of social events, parties, workshops and training courses within the store itself. As the business approaches its first birthday, this is only set to continue with the store’s latest offering now including a much demanded, in house pet grooming salon, offering a range of natural grooming treatments. With customer demand for the highly anticipated salon continuing to grow, the team are anticipating the need for a second groomer to join their enterprise by summer. Building on the already strong community feel of the Morpeth store, My Pet HQ are looking to further expand their services with the opening of My Pet Café. The new addition, which will be coming soon, will offer customers an animal friendly, welcoming meeting place to catch up with friends and family outside of My Pet HQ’s popular social events. To celebrate their first year in business, the team at My Pet HQ looked to Morpeth Fair Day to plan a special celebration to mark their first birthday with Doodle Bugs Crafts and Ceramics offering face painting, and a showcase from Herbal Dog Co. With a range of activities taking place across the store, the team welcome Morpeth locals, and people visiting the town to pop in and join the fun. Diane Coppen, one of the co-founders of My Pet HQ, explained: “It was really important for us to make Morpeth Fair Day a big part of our first birthday celebration since it was actually on Fair Day 2017 that we first opened our doors to the public. This year we’re sponsored the 2nd Annual Fun Dog Show, which will be raising money for Wag and Company. It’s a charity that has been close to our hearts for a long time and we do already offer space for the charity to undertake assessments, as well as offering members 10% off instore purchases and grooming.” My Pet HQ, 15-17, Oldgate, Morpeth, NE61 1QF 01670 512895 www.mypethq.co.uk

NEW RESTAURANT UNVEILED AT PLANTSPLUS GARDEN CENTRE New restaurant opens after huge transformation

P

lantsplus Garden Centre has officially welcomed the opening of its new restaurant this May. The Newcastle branch of Berwick Garden Centre Ltd, near Ponteland, has created around 15 new jobs in the area.

Having undergone a huge transformation across the store for the past year, the restaurant will have its doors open to customers 7 days a week, throughout the year. Serving breakfast, lunches, light bites, coffee and cake, its commitment is to serve fresh, homemade food with locally sourced produce wherever possible. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options means there is something for everyone to enjoy. The outdoor seating area will also allow for dog owners to experience the restaurant looking out towards the plant department. Seating 250 people, Plantsplus is hoping to emulate the success of both Berwick and Dunbar Garden Centre restaurants, with Dunbar holding a Taste Our Best award from Visit Scotland – awardees must keep food miles to a minimum; show information about where your food has

come from; friendly staff who know about the origins of the food on your plate; keeping the menu options fresh and seasonal. A bright and sunny area tucked around the corner of the restaurant will be kept for the use of parties, visiting groups, and private functions. If you would like to book this area, please contact the centre on the details at the bottom of the page. The addition of the restaurant will bring Plantsplus up to speed with customer expectation of garden centres as a day-out shopping experience. The store has increased its retail offerings to include books, gifts, cards and pet supplies and is also continuing with the upgrading of its nursery facilities. Work is continuing around the store with as little disruption to customers as possible, with the carpark to be resurfaced and the front entrance to be renovated. Customers were directed

The addition of the restaurant makes Plantsplus a day-out shopping experience through the nursery last month whilst builders were addressing the new entrance, and with it being the height of growing season it was a fantastic time to really see into the heart of the nursery and the garden centre’s core activity. To celebrate its opening, the centre has begun including a free pot of tea or filter coffee voucher for every Reward Card customer with their Reward Card points in the post every 2 months. Pick up an application form in store or on their website - its free to join and you’ll be rewarded with every purchase! Why not book in for Afternoon Tea, MondayFriday between 12-4pm? GIVE SOMEONE POWER OF ATTORNEY …BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE Lasting Powers of Attorney are invaluable documents as part of the overall planning of your estate as managing your financial affairs can become more difficult as you get older. If a person is unable to manage their affairs due to mental incapacity and they have not made a valid Enduring or Lasting Power of Attorney, their assets will be frozen as no one (including their spouse and children) has the authority to deal with them. At this point someone will need to apply to the Court of Protection to be appointed as the person’s Deputy. The Court will then authorize the Deputy to deal with the person’s affairs in a certain manner. This is a very time consuming (around 6 months) and expensive (in the region of £1,750) process. This situation can be simply avoided through the making of a Lasting Power of Attorney. By making a Lasting Power of Attorney you can decide whom you would like to manage your affairs in the event that you are unable to do so either due to physical or mental incapacity. There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney that can be made, one dealing with your property and financial affairs and the other dealing with your personal welfare.

Property and Affairs

This power enables your attorney to deal with your 34

bank accounts and your property. This includes decisions in relation to selling or renting your property, paying your bills, applying for benefits you are entitled to and all aspects of dealing with your bank accounts, savings and investments.

Personal Welfare

This power gives your attorney the authority to make decisions regarding your healthcare and medical treatment.

All work we undertake is at fixed fees: Single Property and Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney: £300 inclusive of VAT Double Property and Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney (suitable for couples): £420 inclusive of VAT Single Will: £120 inclusive of VAT Mirror Will: £156 inclusive of VAT It is imperative that specialist advice is taken in order to ensure that the power given accurately reflects your wishes. COMPLETION NEARS FOR LANDMARK NORTH TYNESIDE DEVELOPMENT Completion is nearing of a sought-after seafront residential scheme in North Tyneside, which has breathed new life into the site of a derelict hotel.

C

onstruction of High Point View, a development of 14 townhouses on the Promenade, in Whitley Bay, which offers spectacular unrivalled floor-to-ceiling sea views, is due to be finished in the coming weeks.

The three, four and five-bedroom properties have seen significant levels of popularity due to their ‘smart home’ innovative, eco-friendly design and the first families are due to move in to their new homes by late summer. The site has now unveiled its show home, which was formally opened by Norma Redfearn CBE, the Elected Mayor of North Tyneside. High Point View, a joint venture between Aspire Care Group and North Tyneside Council, has regenerated the site of the former High Point Hotel, which had fallen into disrepair and was branded an ‘eyesore’ by local residents. The project also forms part of the council’s £36m Seafront Master Plan, which is regenerating the coastline from St Mary’s Lighthouse to Cullercoats Bay. The development, which also offers private parking and gardens for residents, is being created entirely by local businesses. Northern Bear Building Services, from Gateshead, is the contractor for High Point View, which has been designed by Newcastle-based Miller Partnership

Architects. Neil Wilson Design, from Newcastle, is overseeing the interior design. Law firm Sintons, based in Newcastle, has handled the real estate development work from the outset, and is now through its dedicated residential development team handling the plot sales. Anoop Puri, managing director of Aspire Care Group, said: “Since construction began in November 2016, we have been so excited about reaching the stage where we can welcome people in here to see what we have created. High Point View is a stunning development, even better in reality than I imagined during the many months and years of planning, which has made a huge positive contribution to Whitley Bay’s seafront and its ongoing regeneration. “We decided to open the show home with a traditional Hindu ceremony, involving the cracking of a coconut on the doorstep, designed to bring prosperity and success to the venture. “We have had huge interest in the development, which you would probably expect given its prominent location and truly unrivalled sea views over four storeys, and we are confident that the opening of our show home will yield even greater levels of enquiries.” Norma Redfearn CBE, Elected Mayor of North Tyneside, said: “I was delighted to visit the High Point View development as it nears completion and open the show home

High Point View, a joint venture between Aspire Care Group and North Tyneside Council, has regenerated the site of the former High Point Hotel, which had fallen into disrepair and was branded an ‘eyesore’ by local residents

– the views looking across the sea towards St Mary’s Island are absolutely stunning. It was a pleasure to be part of a unique and exciting event and it was the first time I have ever seen a coconut-cracking ceremony! “The homes are looking fabulous and have completely transformed what was an eyesore into a luxurious seafront development perfect for families. It has also been an excellent example of the council working in partnership with a private developer to deliver something truly first-class. “This is another major step forward in our continuing efforts to breathe new life into the coastline as part of our Seafront Master Plan.” Alok Loomba, Partner in the Real Estate team at Sintons, added: “High Point View is a highly impressive residential development, brave in its design and outstanding in its quality. Great credit must be given to Anoop and North Tyneside Council for bringing such a scheme to reality. “The housebuilding team at Sintons, led by Catherine Davies, works widely with housebuilders on all aspects of new build residential development projects. We are very pleased to have been able to support High Point View from the very beginning, from planning, through construction, and now into completing the plot sales.” Neil Jukes, Managing Director of Northern Bear Building Services, added: “Our full team have worked closely with the client and his team of specialists to ensure that the excellent concept design has been realised on site to deliver these stunning houses.” Find out more about the development at www.highpointview.co.uk Find out more about North Tyneside Council’s Seafront Master Plan at my.northtyneside.gov.uk/category/642/ coastal-regeneration

The spa and leisure club at Matfen Hall is an award winning, contemporary addition, that the original proprietors would no doubt approve of thanks to a gym, aerobics studio, a 16-metre UV filtered pool, a hot tub, herbal sauna, crystal steam room, ice fountain, tropical feature shower and salt grotto. Dedicating itself to the pampering element of a country escape, the spa has five treatment suites including a dual room, where therapists use Elemis to deliver therapies including facials, wraps, massages, reflexology and thermo auricular therapy as well as head-to-toe rituals. They also use Orly nail treatments for manicures and pedicures and MAC cosmetics for make-up consultations.

Half an hour from Durham city centre, Seaham Hall is an iconic building in the style of a Georgian country house, dating back to 1791. Today it is a five star hotel, with 22 suites that treasures its rich history and retains its eccentric character alongside contemporary interiors, all the while set against a backdrop of 37 acres of grounds perched on a cliff top. There are two restaurants at the hotel that highlight the local and seasonal produce from the surrounding area. Byron’s Restaurant delivers a classical menu in a contemporary environment, while Ozone at Seaham Hall is a spherical outdoor terrace with views of the gardens offering an informal, brasserie-style space, combining Eastern ingredients with European cuisine Offset by the scenic location, the award winning Serenity Spa at Seaham Hall is true to its name, providing a relaxed environment for wellbeing and some well-earned pampering as well. Facilities include a fitness suite, 20-metre pool with massage stations, sanarium with crystal light therapy, sauna, snail showers, hydrotherapy pool, ice fountain, plunge pools, hammam, steam room, outdoor hot tubs and a roof garden.
