T h e firft Four of the following T A B L E S were drawn up by order of the Legiflative Affembly of F R A N C E , which met the iff of October 1791, and feem to have been framed in the view of afcertaining the actual ftate of the Colony, and its Commerce, immediately before the breaking out of the rebellion of the Negroes in the Month of Auguft of that Year. T h e totals will be found to differ, in fome of the particulars, from the ftatement which has been given in the preceding pages.
T h e difference
arifes partly from the actual change of circumftances, in the courfe of two years which intervened between the periods when each ftatement was made up, and partly, I am afraid, from errors and omiffions of my own.
