Personally appeared before me, James Butler, mate of the hermaphro dite brig Venus, of N e w York, from Tobago—complains of ill treatment of Captain T h o m a s , who has turned him on shore, because he left the ves sel without leave to make his complaint at this agency. Ordered t h e mate to his duty on board. Also appeared, as complainants, t h e whole c r e w of said brig Venus, stating that, from threats of t h e captain, the short allowance on which they a r e put, and t h e bad condition of t h e vessel, their dread of again committing themselves to the sea under the same circumstances.
