Shipped, in good order and well-conditioned, by E d w a r d S. M e n d e n hall, in an upon the good schooner called the Hound, whereof is master, for this present voyage, Thomas Quail, and now riding at anchor in the port of Aux Cayes, and bound for Philadelphia, to say : one thousand Spanish dollars, being marked and numbered as in the margin, and are to be delivered, in the like good order and well-conditioned, at the afore­ said port of Philadelphia, ( t h e act of God, the King's enemies, fire, and tall and every other dangers and accidents of the seas, rivers, and naviga­ tion, of whatever nation and kind soever, excepted,) unto Messrs. M. and W . Wurtz, or to their assigns, he or they paying freight for the said goods as customary, with average accustomed. In witness whereof, the master or purser of the said ship hath affirmed to three bills of lading, all of this tenor and date ; the one of which three bills being accomplished, the other two to stand void. Dated in Aux Cayes, January 30, 1811. T H O M A S QUAIL. Be it known, that, on this twenty-seventh day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and e l e v e n , before me, C l e m e n t Biddle, Esq., notary public for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, duly commissioned, and authorized by law to administer oaths and affirmations, dwelling in the city of Philadelphia, personally came William W u r t z of the house of Maurice & William W u r t z , of said city, merchants, who, being duly sworn according to law, on his solemn oath deposes and says, that the annexed invoice and bill of lading contains a just and true ac­ count of one thousand specie dollars, shipped at A u x Cayes in the schooner H o u n d , Thomas Quail, master, for this port, which are the sole properly of the said house of Maurice & William W u r t z , who are citizens of these United States, in which they insured the sum of twelve hundred dollars on the nineteenth day of March last, in the office of R. Be it known, that, on this twentieth day of August, in the y e a r of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven, before me, Clement Biddle, Esq., notary public for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, duly commis­ sioned, and authorized by law to administer oaths and affirmations, dwel­ ling in the city of Philadelphia, personally came M. Pinto, of the island of St. Thomas, merchant, who, being duly sworn according to law, on his solemn oath deposes and says, that he arrived at Cape H e n r y , from J a ­ maica, about the twelfth day of February last, and, when he arrived t h e r e , found the schooner Hound, of which Mr. Sewan was supercago, which had shortly before been captured by Christophe's squadron and brought in as a prize, because she had come from Aux Cayes, a port belonging to Rigaud, and, about a week after he arrived t h e r e , the said schooner Hound and cargo w e r e condemned, and the cargo landed and sold, of which he bought a part—the vessel was retained by Christophe, and fitted out as a c r u i s e r ; that he left the said supercargo under confinement in the Gov-
