Old age has come at last to take revenge, Hanshan. I’ve found a disconnect between hand and heart. It’s a scientific fact, you know, and we can’t deny it. Now we know the heart is not the seat of our emotions. The brain is, that mess of wires and chemical reactions. They lead our lives for us—our secret selves in action. At brain’s command, I filled myself with written words. Now, betrayal! It hides so many of them away from me.
