F

rom start to finish, Amanda and Gannon’s wedding day was a stylish celebration. Amanda glowed in a white gown with a sweetheart neckline and stunning mermaid-silhouette. “I loved the corset back,” Amanda says. “It was strapless and silk with a jewel cluster where the dress flared out. It was perfect!” Her bridesmaids looked fashionable and timeless in floor-length black dresses. The groomsmen each wore tailored black suits and ties, while Gannon's white bow tie gave him a subtle distinction. The couple exchanged vows at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, where Gannon’s son served as the ring bearer. For the reception at the Cadre building downtown, gold details on the ballroom's columns complemented white and cream flowers, and sparkling crystals hung from the ceiling. “My favorite parts were the little moments we had together,” Amanda shares. “We had a first look at each other in the church before the ceremony, and a few minutes for a private dinner at the reception, which was a blast, too!”

A

fter an evening ceremony on the grounds of Heartwood Hall, Glenda and Rusty posed for photos while their guests enjoyed a cocktail hour in the rustic barn. Event designer Angela Mazanti created floral arrangements, centerpieces, and table settings in rich autumn colors that matched the nearly six-foot-tall wedding cake, designed by acclaimed cake artist Sylvia Weinstock. Rather than a typical introduction of the bride and groom, Glenda planned a surprise entrance. A gospel choir led the newlyweds in a procession, playing tambourines and singing “Oh Happy Day!” Not only was the heartwarming and unexpected entrance a surprise to the guests, it was a surprise to the groom as well. “It was a great feeling to start the reception,” Glenda recalls. “The whole day was electrifying and amazing.” The excitement continued with an evening of great food from Napa Cafe, the East Memphis restaurant that Rusty and Glenda own, and danceable tunes played by Soul Shockers.

“O

ur love story started off with friendship, and it just blossomed from there,” bride Tah recalls. They met at work, and three years later, the two were wed in a pair of ceremonies, representing each of their families’ cultures and traditions. “I came to the States when I was a baby with my family who emigrated from Laos,” the bride explains. “Tim’s family is rooted in Memphis; he’s your all-American Southern gentleman.” For the traditional Laos “baci” ceremony, the groom and his family took a ceremonial walk to the bride's house, presenting the elders with gifts, and wearing traditional attire. An American ceremony took place later at the Memphis Botanic Garden, where decor included Laotian paper fans and gold elephants as accents as a nod to Laos’ nickname: Land of a Million Elephants. “We created a sense of community with merging both families and cultures,” Tah shares. “It was truly a dream come true.”

L

auren and Chris met while attending The University of Tennessee, where Lauren played golf and Chris was a swimmer. “After our first date, I just had the feeling that he was ‘the one’,” Lauren recalls. Her intuition proved correct when the two exchanged vows this May at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Memphis. Afterwards, guests traveled to the Peabody Hotel for a black-tie themed reception. A wall of hanging crystals and chandeliers served as the escort card station, while tall black candelabras brimmed with pink and white flowers. “It was black tie with a hint of pink,” Lauren describes. “It was a classy, timeless, candlelit atmosphere.” After dinner, the band kicked off an evening of dancing and celebration. “I have never seen some of my family dance like that,” Chris laughs. “I will never forget the memories of dancing our socks off to the Soul Shockers. Plus, I had the prettiest date at the whole party.”

Michelle Bush & Jeremy Shrader

T

he rich musical culture of the South came alive during Michelle and Jeremy’s October wedding at the Brooks Museum. Michelle, a classical guitarist and songwriter, and Jeremy, a trumpeter and vocalist, knew each other through their frequent performances in Memphis, but it wasn’t until the spring of 2012 that they began to spend time together. The rest of their romance and engagement was a whirlwind. “There is an intangible magical connection between us. From the moment that we started spending time alone together, I could hardly stand to be apart,” Jeremy shares. Quite of few of the couple's musician colleagues and friends filled each part of the ceremony and reception with special tunes. Michelle is a New Orleans native and honored her hometown with a jazz procession through the Brooks Museum after the ceremony. “Love is infectious,” the bride offers. “I felt that it was sprinkled on everyone at our wedding by all that danced, or even smiled with each other.”

April Richardson & Phillip Stewart, Jr.

T

he excitement of April and Phillip’s fall wedding began with an over-the-top proposal in front of the entire congregation of April’s church. “Phillip walked to the pulpit with flowers, knelt down and proposed in front of everyone,” April recalls. “I had all of her friends and our families there and a surprise engagement party waiting,” Phillip says. They selected the first day of fall for their wedding, and worked with Angela Dacus at Southern Event Planners to create an elegant setting for their reception. Fuchsia, burnt orange and chocolate colors filled the room though lush flowers, rustic branches and wood accents, and tall gold candlesticks. Gold-rimmed table settings and personalized labels on wine bottles gave a special feeling to the meal and following party. “Our reception was phenomenal,” April shares. “From the lighting to the decor, to the people that stayed on the dance floor the whole night, the atmosphere was perfect.”

F

or their chic and modern wedding, Amanda and Chris chose a room with a view and a variety of fun details and personal touches. The Tower Room Suite allowed the couple and their guests to enjoy a stunning bird’seye-view of Memphis, and delicate glass vases and flowers that hung between two arched windows served as the backdrop for the ceremony. The ring bearer walked down the aisle with a humorous sign “Last Chance to Run,” an expression of the couple’s laid back and fun personalities. For the reception, dramatic lighting in warm hues created a celebratory atmosphere, while dozens of votives reflected candlelight in a plethora of glass vases and vessels. As residents of Boston and Red Sox fans, the bride and groom had ballpark-inspired appetizers like cheeseburger sliders, french fries, and cracker jacks in Red-Sox cups, all provided by Wade and Company Catering. Bobble-head dolls that matched each member of the wedding party were the final touches for a unique and personalized evening.

T

he modern steel and glass venue at Tunica River Park served as the perfect backdrop for Jennifer and James’ sleek and stylish October wedding. In an elevated approach to an autumn-inspired event, the couple worked with Andria Lewis Events to choose deep shades of red and gold as colors for their big day. Bold hues set the stage for a glam atmosphere. A metallic gold cake made a unique statement, and bright red bridesmaid dresses gave a flattering, fun pop of color. “We wanted a romantic and inviting fall wedding,” Jennifer shares. There was plenty of substance as well as style. “My favorite part of the day was watching Jennifer glow as she walked down the aisle,” James shares. “I loved our first kiss as husband and wife, jumping the broom, and dancing with our family and friends. I truly enjoyed the entire day,” Jennifer says.

lthough the two had many mutual friends and both grew up in Memphis, Liza and Stephen didn’t meet until college. “We joke that we had to go all the way to Auburn to meet,” Liza says. They bonded over their similar sense of humor and shared interests, and in April, the two tied the knot at Hope Presbyterian Church. A sophisticated reception waited for friends and family at Spring Creek Ranch. “We wanted simple and classy, but still a ‘wow’ factor when guests walked in the doors,” Liza describes. White hydrangeas and tulips, along with green accents created a fresh atmosphere that perfectly complemented the natural setting. “We wanted our friends and family to enjoy themselves,” Liza explains. “The music was great, the place looked gorgeous, the food was amazing, and I don’t think the dance floor was ever empty!”

hile Stephanie Foley and Will Eady live in Los Angeles, they have their hearts set on a sweet, Southern theme for their wedding celebrations. The two met through a mutual friend while both were attending Vanderbilt University, and in early 2012, they were engaged. They plan to tie the knot in May of 2013, but couldn’t wait to celebrate. “When my family built our house, there was a vintage barn on the property. My mom has had her heart set on a ‘hoedown’ ever since,” Stephanie shares. This summer their family and friends surprised the couple with an “haute hoedown” engagement party. Social Butterflies event designers worked to turn the already charming barn into a chic setting perfect for celebrating Stephanie and Will, country-style.

arah, a pediatric resident at Le Bonheur, and Joey, a dermatology resident at UTHSC, met in medical school, and several years later enjoyed an elegant wedding day at the historic home of the bride’s parents. “The setting was the inspiration for the garden theme,” Sarah shares. “We wanted to enhance the natural beauty around us and paid tribute to my grandparents’ wedding held there in 1946.” The bride’s family, along with consultant Sally Shy and Kevin Coble of Le Fleur, worked to create a sophisticated yet intimate atmosphere. Reception place cards hung from the garden fence, entwined in charming tomato cages. Magnolia trees graced the entrance to the tent where dinner tables were adorned with a runner of green wheat grass, fresh pumpkins, and mercury glass vessels brimming with red floral arrangements. “The band was wonderful. The flowers and lighting were beautiful,” Joey explains. “But mostly it was lovely to have so many great friends and family to celebrate with us.”

Nikki McKnett & Matthew Pohlman

M

att and Nikki were introduced through mutual friends three years ago. “Matt was the most charming Southern gentleman with the best sense of humor,” Nikki shares. “Before I knew it, we were head over heels.” The two chose The Pink Palace mansion as the setting for their wedding reception. With a strapless ballgown for the bride, a tuxedo and bow tie for the groom, and bridesmaids in floor-length blush-colored gowns, along with ivory, gold, and a bounty of pink roses, the entire affair was timeless and romantic. The large wedding party played a large role in the evening. Matt had twelve groomsmen travel in from all parts of the South to stand with him on his big day. Nikki had sisters, best friends from childhood and college, as well as two junior bridesmaids join her. “We had our most important friends beside us on our wedding day,” the bride says.
