Since 2002, my dream of having my own non-profit has been a driving force for me, to be able to run with my passion and use the gifts God has given me. It wasn't until 2013 that I began the journey. Everything had fallen into place in my personal and professional life. I had not run a business before, and so I took the time to sit with other professionals and learned how to drive this passion correctly.

I also had the ability to connect and collaborate with others who were like-minded. My profession was in broadcasting, and I wanted to continue in that path. Then, an awakening took hold of me when I lived in Europe. I was appointed the Director of Missions while I attended The Church of God. It was during the Bosnian War and Desert Storm 1 that I started seeing how this amazing gift that God had given me began to unfold. I knew that I wanted to use my voice. I just wanted to use it for those who couldn't use

theirs. I began assisting the gypsies in the Czech Republic. I went to facilities that housed special needs children and adults, and then I assisted with the refugees that came out of Bosnia. It was truly amazing.

Ask questions.

Years after returning home to the US, I had a son with Autism, and that completely changed my way of thinking.

Many will give advice, some will even criticize. Learn to drown those negative thoughts in your passion and joy.

Three pieces of advice I would give... Seek out others who are in the field that you want to excel in.

Some of the greatest challenges lately are learning to stay positive during the pandemic. How we deal with

Take all that you have learned and tailor it to your dream.

crises says a lot about our character. One day at a time. Peace is a wonderful trait to harness. I believe women define success on their own terms now. The most motivating factor for me is seeing someone I have helped along the way become a better and stronger version of themselves. That is success and achievement. WE ARE NOT HERE FOR OURSELVES

I have learned so much about leadership by seeking the approval of no one. Once I got that aspect firmly cemented in my spirit, I became free to lead with a greater sense of passion and determination. I seek God's Word every day. Do I come short?? Yes!! Often. Although, I have come to know just how deep His love is for me. I have been blessed with an amazing husband that God chose just for me. I have children and grandchildren that I love with all that is within me.

It’s not always easy to stay focused. There have been times I have questioned my journey. I know that this passion to see children, women and families walk towards their purpose is what keeps me going. Hardships will come. I believe that in order to succeed, we must realize that we are capable of achieving great things when we multiply ourselves within our team. I have an amazing team that understands the focus of our business

and can lead when asked. I love the quote by Erma Bombeck "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have one single bit of talent left, and could say, I used everything you gave me."

Austin City Limits Music Festival: Twenty Years, A Texas Tradition By: Desiree Serna Twenty years ago a creative seed was planted at the urban Zilker Park in Texas state capitol, Austin aka the Music Capitol of the World. It blossomed into a Texas staple and cultural icon… Austin City Limits Music Festival. Over two decades the festival has transformed from a one-weekend summer fest, into a two-weekend behemoth music mecca attracting over 75,000 attendees, featuring a diverse lineup of acts every year with 8 stages, 100+ performances. 2021 marked the return of many world-famed music festivals in the midst of the global pandemic of the novel Corona Virus, also known as COVID-19. A year prior,

in 2020 music festivals were cancelled en mass due to COVID-19, including festivals like Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival. In its return, ACL festival continued the tradition of curating an eclectic line-up of musical genius and creating a culturally enlightened vibe. This year’s lineup included Texas’ own, King of Country, George Strait. Other headliners included emo-extraordinaire Billie Eilish, retro-revival Miley Cirus, rap provocateur, Megan Thee Stallion and nostalgic new wave, Duran Duran. The festival vibe never disappoints. The Barton Springs Beer Hall is relatively new addition to the fest and gives a nice retreat to catch college ball or

enjoy a cold craft beer. Its close proximity to Miller Stage makes it a popular chill spot, able to catch shows from Erykah Badu and Jack Harlow. Across the park’s 30+ acres, shady groves of trees provide social gathering spots to enjoy the musical ambiance. The majestic landscape of Zilker Park is the perfect venue for social spaces and entertaining picnics with a buffet of local eats. ACL Fest offered attendees social VIP experiences from Miller Lounge to Tito’s Party on the Shack to the Road to Honda Stage, providing free tattoos to T-Mobile Club Magenta providing the ultimate backstage experience. Nuances of social responsibility are artistically incorpo-

rated in the festival vibe. Austin Parks Foundation (APF) incorporated Rock & Recycle and Divert It! during both weekends of the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Rock & Recycle encourages festival-goers to join in recycling and sustainability efforts offering a free t-shirt for recyclable collection at the festival. Divert It! enlists volunteers to encourage and educate attendees by helping them compost, recycle, and send less waste to landfills. This year street artists also celebrated the causes by creating mural installations in Zilker park, created live during the festival. The 2021 ACLFest proved to be a triumphant return to live music. Providing all who attended a much needed weekend full of fun with a cause.

India comes alive in the heart of Texas as San Antonio's DiwaliSA2021 is in full swing! Lights and sounds of the evening are aghast with sounds of a distant land filled with magic and mystery. India comes alive in the heart of Texas as San Antonio's DiwaliSA2021 is in full swing! Diwali is India's most important holiday of the year. "The Festival of Light" means row (avail) of clay lamps (deepa) clay lamps that are lit outside homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. In other words Diwali brings hope and dreams to those who embrace the good from within. This DiwaliSA2021 Mayor Ron Nierenburg and his beautiful wife help with ringing in the festivities. Lights and sounds vibrate around every corner of Hemisphere Park and the Tower of America as India comes to life with Diwali "Festival of Light"! This Diwali has proven that San Antonio is ready to get out and start a fresh new year with hope and gratitude. The COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 year of lockdown was hard for most people in San Antonio. The thoughts of the guests at this year's Diwali was unilaterally supportive of keeping safe while having fun and opening up our vibrant city. San Antonio is special in it's rich history, culture, and welcoming spirit. The people of San Antonio are a melting pot of different

cultures. When Indian Americans first starting coming to San Antonio in the 1970s there were only a handful of Asian Indians around San Antonio. I remember as a young girl growing up here I was the only person in my age group. The population went from a little over 200 to now thousands from different parts of India. The food, the dress, the music, and even the religion vary from the different parts of India, but one thing is the same the spirit of "Jai Hind" (victory)! This idea rings through from 1947 to today as Indians celebrate the good "The Light" as they light floating candles and make a wish for the new year ahead. May everyone who lights a candle continue to make their light shine bright in the darkness. - Reshmey Tharakan by: Reshmey Tharakan, C.E.O. Dancer of the Month Erika Jarzombek

Erika Jarzombek has been dancing here in San Antonio since she was three years old.

She recently was awarded the Kick Master Certification for dance.

Erika started at Ballet Conservatory of South Texas, where she is currently on their Senior Company.

She also attends Jewel of Art Dance, where she adds to her dance repertoire with classes such as Leaps and Turns, Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Heels classes.

Erika is a high school senior and dances with Progressions Dance Troupe. With her high school dance team, she has attended Crowd Pleasers and Showmakers dance camps and competitions.

Erika enjoys dance as her passion and has attended several summer dance intensives with Texas Ballet Theater, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet,

DeCruz Ballet, Dallas Black Theatre, and Ballet San Antonio. These intensives have allowed her to explore many dance genres that include Contemporary, Horton Modern, African Dance, Broadway, Hip-Hop, and Jazz. Erika has been able to train with amazing dancers, such as Lauren Anderson, Darla Hoover, DeDe Barfield, Christopher McDaniel, Lindsi Dec, and Karel Cruz. Erika enjoys every opportunity she gets to perform, whether it is at her high school gym, the Carver, Botanical Gardens, or the Nutcracker at the Tobin. It is all magical to her.

Erika hopes to keep dancing in her future and is interested in also doing modeling and runway for local artists. As a senior, she is busy with studies, activities, and college tours. She was recently in a dance video for Jewel of Art Dance that was directed and choreographed by Jackleen Rios. She is currently working on La Boutique Fantasque, a ballet production with BCSTX ballet company, where she will be a Matryoshka doll. Erika is very much an ambassador for dance in our

community. She feels it has taught her many life lessons, is a fun way to keep fit, and has introduced her to a great group of friends and teachers. Goals for the year are to keep dancing with her classmates, have a strong competition season, and then audition for college dance teams and join a college dance community. Her advice to any young dancer is to never be discouraged, listen to the music of your soul, and know that beat you hear is your call to dance. Never be afraid, just dance, and set your joy free.

Headshot and Portrait Photographer of the Year Matt Roberts

How did you get started in your photography career?

new photographers.

I've always had a knack for photography and dabbled with random point-and-shoot cameras. About 12 years ago I bought my first DSLR and took a short class. I shot everything in sight and loved it! Then one day I ran into a very old and dear friend of mine I hadn't seen in nearly 20 years (Tim Cadena Photography). As we were catching up it was revealed that he was a photographer. I ended up in his studio a week later with a model in tow (my girlfriend) where he presented to me the very scary concept of flash and strobe use. That sparked a huge fire in me and I couldn't get enough! Over the next few years, I learned a lot working with Tim, read tons of books, took specialized courses, and gained a Ph.D. in "YouTube" watching. This also triggered a very expensive habit of buying up any and all gear that I "thought" I needed; a common syndrome for

Do you have a career plan? 1. To continue to hone and refine my headshot work 2. To move into high-end, large print portraiture 3. To own my own studio and to expand into providing photography education What three pieces of advice would you give other aspiring photographers in your line of business today? 1. Listen - Listen to people. Learn what they really want and truly need, then deliver that plus more. 2. Always create an exceptional experience. Being photographed is not about "taking a picture" it's about creating an experience for the person being photographed.

3. Find a mentor and listen carefully. Seek critiques and always remain "teachable" and keep shooting! What is the most satisfying quality about your job? The people. The people I photograph and their stories. What would you say are your greatest challenges in your job? 1. Time - There's never enough. 2. Having to change or cancel a shoot due to unforeseen circumstances. 3. Wishing I could go back to every person I've shot and re-shoot them... Better! What would you say are the top three skills anyone should have as a top photographer?

1. People skills - to be able to listen with intent, communicate sincerely, and relate with empathy 2. Self-awareness - having humility, confidence, and being aware of your limitations 3. Believe in yourself! Own it. As a photographer, what motivates you? People - People are energy to me. The more people I can meet and help in some way, the better. How do you define success? Being completely happy in life. LIfe is short, live in the moment and enjoy it to the fullest. Today, I am doing everything in my life that I love to do. I can't think of a better definition of success than that.

"To me, it's not about how you LOOK when you see your picture,

it's about how you FEEL when you see how you look."

Who has been your greatest inspiration? My first photography mentor and close friend, the late Will Langmore. My greatest inspiration is the famous wedding and portrait photographer Jerry Ghionis. What has been your most satisfying moment in your photography career? I photographed a client who admitedly had low self-esteem. We took a moment talked through a few things. I guided her through the first few shots, then had her come around to view the big screen to review the images. As I was displaying the images, it suddenly got very quiet. I looked over to see her standing there, her hand over her mouth with tears running down her

cheeks. She said to me, "I have never ever seen my-

self look that pretty! Wow! Look at me!" I said, "YES! Look at you! THAT is YOU!" To me, that is what it's

all about. When people see their pictures, I want them to feel how good the image makes them feel. It's not

about how good they "look," it's about how good they "feel" when they see how they look. The rest of that

shoot produced incredible work and it helped to change

her self-esteem. So much so, that we scheduled another session for some beaufitul portraiture work! My pho-

tography effected positive change in her life and that's the legacy I want to leave behind with my work.

Bobby Tschoepe, Artistic Director of Christian Youth Theater San Antonio-New Braunfels

If you told the “Cat in the Hat” in 2014 that in a few short years he would be the Artistic Director of a youth theater company, he would have told you “that’s crazy.” It’s a good thing that crazy things happen, because now, Bobby Tschoepe is the Artistic Director of Christian Youth Theater San Antonio-New Braunfels (CYT SA-NB). Bobby gets to call CYT his workplace, his artistic outlet and he continues to call it home. Christian Youth Theater is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4-18, and the SA-NB branch has been active since 2011. The mission of CYT is to develop character and creativity in kids of all ages

through quality theater arts training that brings families and communities together while reflecting the Creator. This mission has rung true for Bobby who has been a part of CYT for more than seven years! Bobby has been a teacher, camp counselor, production team member and more. Now, he gets to use those skills daily to invest in students. “I never thought I would step into this role so soon, and

I am so blessed to be working with our students, their families and our incredible staff,” Bobby adds. “CYT is so much more than producing great musical theatre for kids and families. It’s about providing a space where students can grow in their talents, develop their on- and offstage character, and can glorify the Lord with their gifts.” Upcoming show “Little Women the Broadway Musical.” To learn more about CYT, visit www.cytsanantonio.org.

7 Essential Medicare Questions to Ensure You or Mom Get the Best Cost & Coverage

David Luna, co-founder of Connie Health, helps a customer navigate their Medicare choices. Source: Connie Health By Renee Sazci for Connie Health conniehealth.com/medicare-texas/ Did you know that every year Medicare plans change and new plans become available? If you or a loved one is on Medicare, the Annual Enrollment Period is a critical time to conduct a plan review. That’s because there could be an opportunity to save money and get better coverage. The Annual Enrollment Period period began October 15th and runs through December 7th — and is the only time

when everyone who has Medicare is allowed to make changes. During this time, recipients receive an influx of marketing from insurance companies. With so many companies and plans out there, it can be hard for seniors to know who to trust. That’s why Oded Eran, David Luna, and Michael Scopa founded Connie Health. The free service provides Medicare guidance from local experts — to help those on Medicare save money and get better coverage. Free Medicare plan review

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period is the only time when everyone who has Medicare is allowed to make changes. And it’s the best time to do a plan review with an agent. Connie Health agents are local and able to meet in-person, or via phone or video call. Whichever is most convenient and preferred. Once an agent understands health and budget needs, they use Connie Health’s technology to compare all major plans to find the lowest cost and best fit. Connie Health agents live and work in your community, so they know local healthcare options. After enrollment, customers have access to a local care team that helps them find doctors and use their benefits. “The agent was very knowledgeable and spent the time needed to research plans and drug coverages to fit my needs,” explains Claudia. “I have just the right coverage now at the most reasonable cost.” 7 essential questions to ask Whether you’re on Medicare, or your loved one is, these questions should be asked during this Annual Enrollment Period—ending December 7th. Each question can determine whether the current plan is the best one for the coming year. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Are my preferred doctors and specialists in my health plan’s network? Were my out-of-pocket costs too high for my budget this year? Do I want more benefits like dental, vision, or hearing? Has my health changed in the past year? Do my monthly plan premiums fit my budget? Are my monthly premiums increasing? Are my predicted annual medical costs increasing in the coming year?

Not sure how to answer the questions? A local Connie Health agent can provide clarity, and a free no-obligation plan review to ensure the right plan for 2022. Get help from local licensed experts. The cliché of Thanksgiving comes every year and in 2021 arrives again. "Be thankful" "give thanks" for one day then wake up Friday morning and shop until you drop in abundance. The bigger cliche could be that we should give thanks everyday and not only for one day just because the last Thursday of November is designated so.

handle." Sometimes the Universe serves a dish of defeat so deep you can hardly see a way to eat yourself out it to finish your plate. What I wish for us all this Thanksgiving season is to remember our blessings on more than just one designated holiday and take our blessings to the street. Let's celebrate life's ups and downs and celebrate them together. Be accountable and be present and be fierce in your heart of giving everyday you are here on Earth.

Have you lost a family member that is no longer present. Have you lost your job or business to CoVid or some other life event or illness and the list goes on. If you consider yourself better than, smarter than, richer thanÖ remember somewhere someone has less and is sufLoss and hard times is inevitable and no one can fering. If you are struggling with regret, fear, are broken escape adversity. Self included. The measure of a man and grieving, remember somewhere someone has less and (or woman) is their response to adversity and forget is suffering more. the saying "God will never give you more than you can

And of mistakes made and regrets in life I don't care what you've done, even against me personally-if you sincerely are sorry I'll forgive you. And even if you are NOT sincerely sorry guess what? I forgive you. Grace is something that comes in many forms. It comes in not doing wrong in the first place, it comes in turning the other cheek, it comes in admitting you're wrong, it comes in the justification of karma, and it comes in forgiveness. We are a community of imperfect people and no matter how many examples we make of each other and point fingers and no matter how many laws and policies we make to try to fix things the fact is nothing will never change until we practice forgiveness. I challenge you to try forgiveness first.

In this world on every other day except Thanksgiving Day, we sit in front of our phones and TV's and computers, popcorn in hand, in judgement of others and their actions and rarely look in the mirror at our own. This Thanksgiving move beyond the cliche of a day and apply your thanks and generosity and forgiveness to the other 364 days leaving hypocrisy, judgment and propaganda behind. Challenge yourself to rejoin humanity love and assist your fellow man 365 days a year, every year! If you are wondering and I know you are I give thanks as I write this for another Texas Tech win and pray for another Cowboys win today and certainly will think about forgiving you if you don't ;) Blessings Marianne Pinkston MD

Kerri Joy Kerri Joy has been a Fitness and Wellness trainer for over 20 years. Her father was a college athlete, and her mother was a ballet dancer. Both of them were educators in the school system, therefore, her genes were in her favor as she developed her own athletic skills and teaching abilities. The love and passion for athletics and physical training poured into the desire to train and serve others first as a hobby, and eventually, a career. After having two children, Kerri began to work out at the local YMCA to lose baby weight. After attending the classes of the talented, Rene Christy from Wichita Falls, Texas, for several months, Rene approached Kerri and asked her if she would be interested in teaching and personal training. She encouraged her and is a great mentor in her fitness journey. Over the years, Kerri has accumulated multiple certifications. She is an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor. She has certs from NETA, Les Mills, Zumba, Instramentalicise, and is efficient in CPR.

She is constantly learning and attending seminars and workshops in order to stay current in the ever-changing fitness industry. Kerri has not only trained at local gyms, country clubs, Universities, and military bases, she is also the Fitness and Wellness Director at Franklin Park Alamo Heights. Her love for seniors and their well-being is evident in how she creates and provides programs to meet their needs in their golden years. 1. How do you structure a program for senior citizens? Seniors are a special and unique group to work with. Their lives are interesting, and each individual has different needs according to what obstacles they are dealing with. Knee, hip and shoulder replacements, arthritis, Parkinson's disease, pacemakers and strokes are just a few of the trials that they deal with. The main goal, when dealing with seniors, is to focus on what they can do. Listen intently to their needs, stay informed with their doctor, and develop

a plan that is perfect for them. Set them up for success, praise them for their work, and encourage them to be consistent in their fitness routine. 2. Imagine a client is discouraged during a training session. How do you keep them motivated? In order to keep anyone motivated, you have to set them up for success by setting intentions of movement that are achievable. Challenge them, yet praise them often. I like to follow these three mantras: 1. Value who you were and realize we are all aging and changing. 2. Embrace who you are now, our bodies are wonderfully made, and we can move at any age with modifications. 3. Fall in love with who you are becoming. Movement is a

celebration of life, not a punishment. 3. What do you tell clients that are looking for instant results? Oh, how we live in a world of instant gratification. We expect too much too fast and must learn to trust the process. My favorite words on this subject are "There is magic in consistency!" Progress, not perfection. We adapt. Stay positive, and be persistent to do a little bit every day. We don't have to spend hours in the gym to stay healthy. Be willing to change mindsets in order to change your outlook on life. One day at a time. Stay faithful and trust the process. 4. Three essential exercises and why? a. Stretching is crucial. It keeps muscles flexible and

strong. It helps maintain a good range of motion in the joints. If we don't stretch, the muscles shorten and become very tight. It can cause imbalance all over the body, which can lead to injuries. b. Core strengthening. A weak core leads to poor posture, lower back pain and muscle injuries. It is much easier to do physical activity with a strong core. We have more endurance and a stronger base in order to function properly. c. Balance. Balance is very important as we age. It helps prevent falls that become a problem. Oftentimes, a fall leads to broken bones, which leads to immobility and less independence. 5. Is there anything in particular you are looking to accomplish in your career? My main goal in my fitness career is to encourage and

teach others to be and feel the best that they possibly can. I want to project a positivity that people can catch in my presence and leave in a better state of mind than when they arrived. My goal is to remind people that taking care of themselves is essential, and they are worth the time it takes to do it. "Progress, not perfection," is my mantra. A little bit of movement each day is an achievable goal, and there is magic in being consistent. Have the courage to be kind to your mind, body and spirit. My goal for my Alopecia journey is to reach women that are losing their hair due to various reasons. It can be a traumatic shock to the mind and body when you lose your hair. It is a delicate heart and soul matter. I want to provide support and love to these people and help them find solutions that help them regain their confidence. I want to half their burdens and double the joy in their journey by walking alongside them, cheering them on. I have walked

ahead of them in the process and can direct them to wigs, products, and mental clarity. 6. What three pieces of advice would you give people in your field? a. Have a kind heart and a fierce mind. Meet people where they are and take it slow. b. Help your clients set small, achievable goals that set them up for success. They need to see small victories along the way. The sooner, the better. c. Encourage, Encourage, Encourage. Listen, lean in and adapt to their needs as you see how they are doing. 7. Most satisfying moment in Fitness Career? My most satisfying moment in my fitness career was when I was teaching Zumba at Midwestern State University. I had been diagnosed with alopecia universalis and was in the process of losing all my hair. In order to hide

the hair loss, I wore an attachable hair piece that looked like a pony tail. Due to all the dance movements and the thinning of my hair, the pony tail came off and flew across the dance floor. The students were shocked because they had no clue about my hair issues. I made a pact with myself that I would not make my hair problems a big deal. I would only share details when I felt it was absolutely the right moment. That very class was the right moment. I turned off the music, drew the students in close, and shared my heart about my condition. I emphasized that we are all dealing with issues in our lives, and we never know what others are going through. I told the young college students they were beautiful just the way they were and that real beauty comes from the heart, not the outer appearance. There was not a dry eye in the room. It was an amazing

moment of making a difference in people's lives by sharing difficulties and how to overcome them with grace and gratitude. That, to me, is Wellness and very satisfying. When we get real with each other, it allows us to heal. 8. What would you like your legacy to be? She was brave to choose kindness in a harsh world. She was a giving and gracious woman. She loved others and encouraged them fiercely. She trusted in the magic of new beginnings. She forgave others and was a woman of strong faith. She loved to help others be successful.

9. How do you define success? Success is learning balance in all things. Learning to feel your feelings without reacting, but rather blessing and releasing feelings quickly. Staying focused on what is the most important and letting go of the small stuff. Success is living in the moment and seeing beauty in all things. When we build a strong mind, the strong body will come with discipline. Web-site Kerrijoy.net E-mail Kerrijoy@kerrijoy.net

MALE MODEL OF THE MONTH DREW ZAVALA

My name is Drew Zavala, Iím 26years blessed, & raised in San Antonio, TX. I am a Men's commercial and fashion model, stylist, bartender, & fitness enthusiast. I started my journey when I was growing up searching for a way to express myself, and my method was through fashion. Dressing in my own style helped me build confidence in who I was as a person. My pursuit has always been in becoming the "Modern Gentleman", having mix of dapperness and street style. Working at Express and daily life helping gentlemen shop for their wardrobes inspired me to pursue styling creations in 2014. They motivated me by constantly complementing my distinct look and great confidence I had expressing myself. I started freelance modeling my styling through local photography and networking for over 2years. During I was featured on social media for some of my favorite brands, advertising for local business, and first Published Cover for Elegant Magazine.

I later attended the Model & Talent Expo, won a composition card medal, met nation wide agencies, and signed with actors choice. That same summer I decided to take a pursuit of the moment & took the opportunity to live in Hawaii. There I looked to connect with the community and see what the island had to offer. I worked with local photographers and was connected to the KAT Agency where I worked for Heineken as a Brand Ambassador for their company convention. With new resources I have nationwide ambassador opportunities to work. I became a Brand ambassador for a couple companies like Chene Du Paris, a luxury shoe & wardrobe brand. One of my biggest accomplishments was attending a open casting call for CBS Hawaii Five-O on base. There I met with casting agents & connected to the Alessi Casting where I worked HI5-0 Season 9 and 10, Magnum P.I. season 2, and Upcoming Disney Film.

I also worked with The University of Incarnate Word as a model for photography classes. I met my mother agent Lari Nelson in 2017 at the Model & Talent Agency. Since I've learned multiple runway walks, linked with a acting coach, experienced photographers, met many local SA designers, and booked for paid photoshoots/fashion shows.

I worked multiple background roles on many beautiful locations all across Honolulu & Waikiki. From Tourist spots like malls, resorts , beach side, shipyards, & restaurants. I experienced many views and met people from all over the world while filming. I developed a actors resume and even earned a SAG-AFTRA Report. Seeing everything behind

the scenes, the amount of people involved with various jobs. Changed my view in any media, movie, or show I watch. Honolulu was a melting pot of nationalities & the interactions were some of the most memorable. The views of the mountains, variety of plants, hikes with waterfalls & coastline views, most beautiful beaches with blue waters, very prideful Hawaiian culture. Was truly a lifetime experience, highly recommend everyone visit at least once. I'm currently a full time Bartender for businesses on the Riverwalk, The Pearl, & Bartending Services that specialize in weddings, social events, & Company Gallas. I highly enjoy mixology, creating delicious drinks, that are beautifully appealing to the eye, & also socializing with all the different individuals I meet each day.

later motivated me in going to school to earn a NASM physical trainers & nutrition certification currently in the process. I've grown so much as a person, model, and stylist since the start of my journey. I use visuals and fashion to express my individuality and influence many other men like myself. It has helped me develop a new healthy lifestyle where I want to stay fit, eat clean, use gym daily to stay physically & mentally well. I have a greater awareness of nutrition & love to help others with healthier living. To specialize and make a lifestyle out of commercial print, modeling high fashion, wardrobe styling, and any other possibility in the creative industry balanced with my passions of mixology & fitness, is a dream I'll continue to pursue.

I have a love for fitness by building my body through lifts at Golds Gym & previously working at HEB as a healthy living rep where I learned a lot about the process. Which

A future endeavor would be to have a brand of my own to create pieces in my own vision of fashion. Sign to a agency in another state to increase opportunities. Be con-

nected to more local designers, photographers, models, & SA creative industry all together. To become a part of the growing community & interact with like passionate people. Start my own business in specialized bartending services & gain clientele to help change their lifestyle with my NASM license come that day. To do what I love passionately and live happily around the people I love is my ultimate goal.

Fresh new wine worth looking into Bryan Shreve, SA Monthly Food & Wine editor found a fresh new wine worth looking into and enjoying with your friends and family. Obsidian Wine Co is perfect for these times when all of us look for exceptionalism in a world of mediocre wines mass produced by big corporations. As always support SA Monthly Magazine and small businesses around our great country. Obsidian Wine Co, based in Sonoma CA, is doing things differently- their focus is on changing the climate of wine. The name of the company, Obsidian, comes from the location of one

of their vineyards, a volcanic ridge half a mile above sea level on the end of the Mayacamas Mountains in a volcanic ridge half a mile above sea level. From the beginning, the three founders- Arpad Molnar, Michael Terrien, and Peter Molnar have coopered their own barrels, owned, and farmed their own vineyards, and vinified their own wines. They want to return the wine to its roots- a wine of the people. With the belief that it should be enjoyed casually, every day, with friends, they have also launched a series of Outdoor Adventures this past year, which take wine tasting (and enjoying) out of the guided tasting rooms and out into nature.

This past year has also marked the launch of their Rabbit Hole series- wines that celebrate experimentation. It's where they explore new techniques and discover new renditions, often using traditional techniques. Photos and story submitted by permission from Obsidian Wine Co. -Bryan Shreve

The Italian Riviera Is Calling Your Name Join The Culinary Creator Chef Tim

When you think colorful, bright and full of personality, Chef Tim the Girl is likely top of mind. Chef Tim has been a San Antonio inspiration, influential in the event, catering and culinary space since the beginning of the pop-up dining trends and Instagram-worthy table spreads. For those of you who are new to knowing her, Tim McDiarmid is a Canadian native who has deeply planted roots in New York City and Texas. She has become a well-versed San Antonio chef and entrepreneur who has used her unique skill set to impact people’s lives through her immaculate foods and over-the-top events. In fact, there is nothing boring or dull about anything she touches. A portion of Chef Tim’s success can be credited to her fresh and vibrant approach to cooking and development which has been inspired by the Italian Riviera, and her private tours she and her

business partner curate. The result is nothing short of dishes packed with flavor while still expressing the simplicity of the foods, and they are always almost too pretty to eat. Chef Tim’s areas of expertise have not gone unnoticed, not only throughout Texas but nationally as well. Most recently, Chef Tim competed on Food Network’s Chopped, continuing to show that she is a force to be reckoned with as she successfully continues to expand her career and influence others as a top female chef regionally, nationally and internationally! As a culinary expert, Chef Tim has expanded her career into not one but three successful businesses. They were inspired by her vision of providing healthy and

sustainable food throughout the San Antonio area and encouraging others to do the same. Chef Tim has a gift for creating an experience for her guests through specifically designed dishes, which can be seen in her Tim The Girl Catering business as well as in her San Antonio restaurant, The Good Kind which offers local dishes and drinks. She and her team at Ivy Hall Events also help transform clients' visions into reality for a variety of small-and large-scale events. They ensure guests enjoy a vibrant and artistic take on hospitality, and a lush garden oasis in historic King William; perfect for celebrations of all types. As if Chef Tim has not accomplished enough, she also uses her passion and knowledge of the Italian Riviera to co-develop all female tours to Italy with Italian Fix. The chance to join Chef Tim on a carefully planned one-of-a-kind trip that goes beyond the typical “run of the mill” bus full of camera snapping Italian tours is a

rarity. This experience offers guests the chance to visit and stay in historic locations, enjoy homemade Italian dishes in a grandma's kitchen, and explore locally known shops, villages and restaurants. Chef Tim takes the stress out of traveling so guests need only to show up and find their own Italian passion. She allows travelers to live like a local and visit Italy in a way travel companies and private trips cannot offer. Having a guide who knows the language, has local Italian connections, visits the rare yet incredible locations, and considers every travel aspect, changes the entire Italian experience. The most interesting part is that a group of strangers can have a much-deserved break and share life-changing experiences that have them leaving as friends. As a bonus, the trips are co-ed for this year only. Chef Tim continues to prove herself through her businesses and continual exploration which is constantly seen in her punching flavors and carefully planned

events. In addition to the Italian Fix tours, she is passionate about inspiring women and encouraging them to create a business for themselves, thereby increasing female leadership through the culinary world. No matter what you do, Chef Tim believes all women can make an impact and pursue their passions! The fact that she grew up in the country, works as a chef in New York, and developed a palate of international style makes her an ideal female leader in the business and culinary world. You won’t want to miss out on a transformational interaction with Chef Tim through a non-traditional tour of Italy, a spirited and personally planned event or, of course, a rare and covetable Chef

Thanksgiving Wine Pairings There's turkey on the table and gravy on the stove, but what's in your wine glass? Texas hill country vineyard Kuhlman Cellars suggests serving wine that pleases most palates. "For Thanksgiving, you need flexible wines that go well with a bunch of different foods," says Kuhlman Cellars co-founder Chris Cobb. Full-bodied whites such as a Napa Chardonnay, French Viognier, or Kuhlman Cellarsí Calcaria complement most traditional Thanksgiving dinner dishes, such as turkey and stuffing, and mashed potatoes, and gravy. Champagne is a classic for holidays for a reason -

it"s festive and beloved by many no matter what you're serving. Want to go outside the box? Serve a dry rosé, like the Kuhlman Cellarsí fan-favorite Hensell rosé. The Provencal-style rosé has pink apple and lavender notes in the nose and perfectly balanced acidity. "People think of rosé as a summer drink but it's such an easy wine to pair with food. A dry rosé pairs well with many holiday dishes!" explains Cobb. Lower tannin reds such as a Pinot Noir, Spanish

Garnacha (Grenache), or Sangiovese can also be a good choice for Thanksgiving dinner, pairing particularly well with mac ëní cheese and stuffing. "People think they need to serve white wine on Thanksgiving because theyíre serving poultry, but a light-bodied red complements many Thanksgiving side dishes," says Cobb. The most important thing, Cobb says, is to drink what you like. Pairing rules are just general guidelines. What matters most is enjoying what's in your glass. Cheers to that! Want to let the pros pair for you? Order Kuhlman

Cellarsí Friendsgiving wine bundle! The bundle ($89) includes 2019 Sauvignon Blanc, 2016 Malbec Merlot, Hensell rosé, and Kuhlman Cellarsí popular Herbed Almonds. Order one now on kuhlmancellars.com. Charity of the Month! for three new San Antonio staff members who will, with volunteers, welcome at least 50 Afghan SIVs and evacuees and another 50 refugees from elsewhere looking to rebuild their lives in the United States in the Federal fiscal year 2022.

Refugee Services of Texas Will Expand to San Antonio and Hire New Staff to Begin Resettling Afghan Refugees RST will open the new office in partnership with Church World Service and join with community service providers to welcome refugees, Afghan SIVs and Evacuees Refugee Services of Texas, already the state's largest refugee resettlement agency, will expand to a seventh location, San Antonio, and begin helping resettle Afghan refugees in the city as early as December. Refugee Services of Texas has begun the hiring process

The resettlement agency currently has six locations - Amarillo, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and the Rio Grande Valley - and has chosen to expand to San Antonio to help rebuild the U.S. refugee resettlement program nationwide. The immediate task of the new San Antonio office is to accommodate evacuees from Afghanistan approved for resettlement in the U.S. All refugees, including those from Afghanistan, undergo extreme security vetting procedures and health background checks before they are resettled in the U.S. "We are delighted to expand to San Antonio, one of the most welcoming cities in Texas, to help some of the world's most vulnerable people find a new home," said Russell Smith, LMSW, CEO of Refugee Services of Texas. "We look forward to building new friendships and partnerships with the incredible individuals and organi-

zations working in San Antonio as RST looks to resettle refugees during one of the worst displacement crises of vulnerable people in recent memory." RST will partner with local San Antonio community organizations, volunteers, community sponsors, and faithbased congregations and organizations to help refugees find new homes, access critical services, and become productive San Antonio residents, and the opportunity to become U.S. Citizens. San Antonio is currently served by two refugee resettlement agencies Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, and Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Services (RAICES). RST resettlement offices and affiliates offer newly arrived refugees comprehensive support aimed at building a foundation for long-term self-sufficiency and success in the United States. Services include basic needs support, case management, cultural orientation, health access assistance, job preparation, and placement services, and more. Refugee Services of Texas-San Antonio will secure an office location and begin immediately to hire three new staff members to implement resettlement services and will look to grow its presence as funding becomes available.

RST area offices sizes range in size from eight to 48 staff members. The three immediate jobs to be filled are: San Antonio Area Director, Community Engagement Coordinator, and Resettlement Case Manager. RST will also begin training volunteers to welcome new arrivals to integrate into their new city. Information for organizations and volunteers who are interested in partnering with Refugee Services of Texas in San Antonio can find more information at rstx.org. Immediate ways for the public to assist resettlement efforts are also listed online. About Refugee Services of Texas Refugee Services of Texas is a social service agency dedicated to resettling and providing services to refugees and other displaced persons who are fleeing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, and/or political opinion. The original and longest-running branch, RST Dallas provides services to refugees, asylees, and survivors of human trafficking from over thirty different countries of origin.

The Law Office of Philip A. Perez, P.L.L.C.

What About My Pain and Suffering? But people will often ask, what about pain and suffering? What is the value of that? How is it calculated?

What About My Pain and Suffering?

The short answer is, it depends on how serious your injuries are, and how much of this can be supported with documentation or other evidence. Damages for pretrial pain and suffering are considered general damages, or noneconomic damages. Under Texas law, general damages are damages that naturally and necessarily flow from a wrongful act, and would normally compensate for the loss, damage, or injury that is presumed to have been foreseen or contemplated by the party as a consequence of the wrongful act.

This issue comes up a lot when discussing personal injury cases. When someone is injured, in any type of accident, they often have expenses related to medical bills, missed work, therapy sessions, follow up treatment, and future medical care. These can generally be accounted for with the associated paper trail that goes along with these items.

In practice, it can be challenging coming up with this amount. If your case goes to trial, this amount is ultimately up to a Judge or a Jury. Some people in the legal profession, and likely insurance adjusters, use a multiple of the amount of the actual damages in a case. For example, if your actual damages (medical bills etc.), are $15,000.00 then a multiple of that, say

anywhere from two to five, would give you a rough idea for arriving at a pain and suffering amount. If you use a multiple of two, in the above example, the amount of pain and suffering would be $30,000. The amount of the multiple would generally depend on how serious the injury is, and how well that is backed up. I say backed up, because itís important for the pain and suffering damages to be backed up with other evidence, such as medical records, expert reports, evaluations, testimony etc. Keep in mind, that issues such as mental anguish, scarring, and future pain and suffering are also other factors to consider. You should also know that Texas has limits on noneconomic damages in medical malpractice cases. Regardless of how you estimate pain and suffering damages, itís always best to avoid an injury if possible. Always be care-

ful, and remember to hire an experienced lawyer who can assist in estimating the value of your case. Philip A. Perez The Law Office of Philip A. Perez, P.L.L.C.
