Welcome to the 2021 RGS Summer Festival. I write with a feeling of renaissance, with a sense that a new spirit of optimism will lead us into a Roaring Twenties of our time. I very much hope so as these children deserve it – indeed, the whole Reigatian community needs it. In a remarkable year of many highs, this festival draws together some threads and offers opportunities for so much student enrichment. There have been dozens of music performances this year, drama productions, sports fixtures and master classes, clubs, trips, DofE expeditions and academic societies. Innovations have seen new excellence such as the film made by RGS Drama and the online MUN conferences and, of course, as I write the CCF has been recognised with a national award for their contribution to lifting us out of lockdown. As part of the RGS Summer Festival, Enrichment Week is a chance for the students to enjoy themselves and have fun learning new skills, honing those they already have and putting them into practice on expeditions and activities. Amongst others, students will take part in sports day, perform in concerts, experience the Stock Market challenge, visit Wellington Barracks and Buckingham Palace, perform Shakespeare, display their work in the Art Exhibition; they will go paintballing, take part in leadership training, undertake Geography fieldwork, learn from modern languages plays and workshops, enjoy a Greek play, water sports at Henfold Lakes. Cricket, science, theatre visits, building and racing carts in the Pram Race, a hostage negotiation workshop, a visit to Thorpe park all form a significant part of the enrichment week. Alongside all of this Gold DofE, Army Camp and support for UCAS applications feature as they do every year. I am especially looking forward to our own TEDx evening as well as the new RGS

FROM THE HEADMASTER Hartsfest event on Thursday 24 June 2021 – potentially the start of wonderful new traditions. I hope that you will be able to join us for as many of these activities as possible as and when restrictions allow, to support your children and to enjoy the various events. The experiences that children have outside of the classroom are so important. Whether that be on trips to far flung places or closer to home, competing on the sports field, being creative in the art studio, performing in concerts or other opportunities – these are the occasions where character is revealed and developed, and where friendships are strengthened. Please do come and see how we do this best. Of course, none of this could happen without the time, energy and dedication of the staff at RGS; without their support and, obviously, without the drive of the children themselves. We have had yet another amazing year here at RGS and whilst the festival rightly focuses on the student experience, it is nice to be able to remember that for 2020-2021 RGS was named as the overall School of the Year in the education Oscars. I think everyone is looking forward to a well-earned rest but, more than that, we are all looking forward to ending the year with a bang! With my very best wishes and thanks, Mr Shaun Fenton Headmaster @rgsheadmaster
