Welcome to the first year MA Communication Design exhibition catalogue. »Related/ Unrelated« opened on 25th March 2011 with the purpose of sharing our work with the public. The title of the exhibition gave us the freedom to either explore different discourses and media or to reflect on our work from the previous 6 months. The work presented was marked by our need to utilise visual language to create new solutions to problems, both on a global and personal level. The necessity of sparking dialogue on issues such as aesthetics, mechanisation and identity led us to develop projects that are relevant to our communities and with the ultimate aim of improving people’s lives. This exhibition also gave us the opportunity to pursue personal projects on illustration, typography and craft. The crossover between our engagement with both the social and visual aspects can be seen in the »Hello Japan« fundraiser. The brainchild of Belle Promchanya, postcards donated from all over the world as well as from students on the course and sold to raise money for the victims of Japan’s earthquake. The fusion of different areas of knowledge, both within design and from elsewhere, is representative of our interests as a group. By exploring design with the help of
