the advocacy efforts of ABoR, the Texas Association of REALTORS (TAR) and the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) to protect property rights and the interests of REALTORS. The HBA also actively monitors the local, state, and national legislative and regulatory changes that affect the residential construction industry. The HBA staff, working with Texas Association of Builders (TAB) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is committed to protecting your business interests and keeping you informed. The strength in numbers of an association creates a strong voice that represents your political interests, constantly monitoring legislation that would introduce new or increased taxes, and saving you hundreds of dollars in fees each year.

Learn new skills and stay in-the-know Association membership opens the door to numerous educational opportunities and ways to stay up-to-date with the industry. Web portals and e-newsletters offer access to industry websites and publications with news and ideas critical to the industry. Sponsored educational opportunities include special courses with continuing education credits, seminars, workshops, online learning communities, publications, and professional designations and certifications. “ABoR offers many opportunities to participate and learn about the profession. By offering education classes and providing numerous committees, members can learn things from ethics to government affairs; all of which assists in creating a well-rounded real estate professional,” says Steve Crorey, REALTOR, ABoR member since 1991.

Often, these organizations will make business solutions available at little or no cost. For example, WCAoR provides ZIPFORM Elite, Carbonite, Dashfly, DocuSign and other great apps; and ABoR provides access to ListHub and Property panorama, as well as the MLXchange with reliable support and accurate and dependable MLS content.

Professional recognition Be recognized for your professional work or community leadership and service with industry awards. Each year, WCAoR hosts the annual Installation and Awards Banquet, the HBA hosts the MAX awards, and ABoR holds the annual Industry Awards. These festivities honor the best new talent, industry veterans, and members who have demonstrated outstanding professionalism, leadership and community service, and are making a difference to elevate the industry.

Strengthen and support your industry at the local, state and national level Member professionals are held to the highest professional standards, so that consumers and the community know that they are working with the best that the industry has to offer. If legal disputes arise, some associations have arbitration and mediation mechanisms for resolving complaints. Membership in your local organization often grants you automatic membership at the state and national levels, so that you extend your reach and your network of resources, making connections that help everyone in the industry. As professionals, we are here to support homeowners and the community, but we are also here to support each other. Membership in your professional association is the most efficient (and the most fun) way to stay connected and supported in all you do. RL
