If not for Rachael’s teaching, I would not be on the path that I am today. Since graduating University, I’d been working in a creative field, but not as a designer. Rachael has a teaching style that is upbeat & enthusiastic, provides a solid overview of the practicalities of working in surface pattern design, all while encouraging her students to appreciate where they are in their own journeys. I find myself repeating some of Rachael’s sayings […], including “don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle”. Rachael’s encouraging & inclusionary attitude, her reminders that there is truly a place for everyone in this business, and that by bringing your own approach to it, your work will naturally be unique, is an inspiration - & also a road map to achieving success in the field. - Amy McCoy Make it in Design Alumni of The Ultimate Portfolio Builder

I received a one-to-one Skype session with Rachael to discuss anything I felt I needed to. At the time, I was feeling quite lost, overwhelmed & demotivated having recently started my own design-based business. She gave me some invaluable tips such as, designing what 'I' wanted to design, rather than what I thought people would want. So I attached some paper to my wall & did little doodles & sat at nighttime sketching whatever came into my head & these little sketches became starting points for new designs that I loved! This really helped me regain my creative spark & it is something I still do now. I also kept comparing myself to others in the field, which she advised was totally normal but to remember that there is a place for us all! All in all, it was really beneficial to speak to someone like-minded & to someone who has been there at the beginning & come out the other end a success! I still often think back to the call & read the notes I took - such an invaluable business tool! - Natasha Rowarth Recipient of an individual portfolio review Make it in Design Alumni of The Ultimate Portfolio Builder

Thanks to Rachael I have drawn things I didn’t know I was capable of, I have made patterns I never thought I would be able to create & I feel I have truly grown as a person as well as an artist. The portfolio review was the highlight for me, it was the confidence boost that I needed. I know now for certain that I am on the right path. I can’t thank Rachael enough, you have truly changed my life. - Joanne de Pace Make it in Design Alumni of The Ultimate Portfolio Builder
