Hawaiian dance is both a beautiful experience and an enjoyable way to include more movement into your routine. This art form combines foot placement and hip movement while meaningful hand gestures tell a story.

Tap Dance for Seniors

Participate in this exciting and lively American dance art experience. Help develop a sense of rhythm and body coordination, improve balance, and increase strength and flexibility while exploring steps and movement! From practicing proper warm-up techniques to exploring basic choreography, each class will instill confidence and encourage creativity. For those with some tap experience that want tot take it to the next step. Have fun! Complexity of steps and choreography increases with each level. Students have the option to perform in the MAC Spring Dance Recital on Thursday, June 1 at 7:00pm.

Theory

Would you like to know more about the fundamentals? Discover basic principles through the study of keyboard harmony, intervals, tonality, chord functions and progressions. Learn to analyze and better understand repertoire. Comprehension and performance ability will increase dramatically. Previous piano experience is not required; however, the keyboard is used to demonstrate music theory concepts.

Recorder for Beginners

Find your Renaissance by learning this timeless instrument in the pleasure and comfort of a small group. Begins with note reading, fingering and simple songs to play. Bring your own recorder (none provided); instructor suggests Aulos, Zenon or Yamaha brand). Both C (soprano, tenor) and F (alto, bass) recorders welcome. This activity uses an instructional book and CD which you can purchase on the first day of class at CMC for $20 (in addition to registration fee; nonrefundable).

Senior Piano Lab

This class is designed for absolute beginners. Explore the elements of rhythm, melody, and harmony as you learn to read music and gain an understanding of basic music theory and technique. Perfect for students wanting to learn how to play fullsize pianos in a comfortable small group setting. This class uses: Alfred’s Basic Adult All-in-One Course: Lesson, Theory, Technic. Students are REQUIRED to purchase and bring their own book to each class. Students must have access to a piano/keyboard at home and are expected to practice.
