The beginning of the new year signals the countdown to baseball and softball season and both programs are ready to kick things off by announcing the date for the fourth annual Diamond Dinner set for Friday, Jan. 27 at Treasures of Marilyn in Lake Charles. The event will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m. along with a cash bar available throughout the event and dinner served shortly after. Those in attendance will hear from both head coaches as well as players from both teams regarding the upcoming seasons. A live auction will begin around 7 o’clock with a multitude of items up for bid. A silent auction will be held while those in attendance will have a chance to walk away with door prizes. McNeese’s annual diamond dinner has become a highly successful event with funds raised totaling close to $200,000 over the last three years. The proceeds directly support both teams and their student-athletes as they prepare to take the diamond and compete in their respective sports. Reserved tables of eight people are available for $300 and will have premium seating for the event and recognition at the dinner. General admission tickets are available for $20. ALUMNI GAME SET FOR JANUARY 28TH Former players, coaches and support staff from the McNeese baseball program are invited back to Lake Charles for the Cowboy Alumni game set for Saturday, Feb. 28. The game, in conjunction with McNeese’s annual Diamond Dinner fundraiser, will feature the alumni as they face off against members of this season’s squad. First pitch at Joe Miller Ballpark is set for Noon with admission free of charge. A jumphouse will be provided for the kids as well as food for alumni and their families following the game. SOMMERS SERVES ON PRESIDENT-ELECT’S SECURITY DETAIL
Having the opportunity to protect the leader of the highest office in the entire country is an honor that former McNeese baseball student-athlete Billy Sommers has been blessed to experience. Sommers, a native of Moss Bluff, La., was recently pictured as part of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s security detail following the November election. Last fall, Sommers gave up his last season of eligibility as a member of the McNeese baseball team in pursuit of his dream to become a U.S. Secret Service agent. He was selected out of 75,000 initial applicants to begin the vetting process and passed all subsequent tests and interviews. McNeese baseball head coach Justin Hill announced the dates for three winter instructional camps that take place throughout He went through 13 weeks of training in Georgia and followed up the month of January 2017 with the chance to learn from multiple major league instructors and players. with 17 weeks of training in Maryland at the United States Secret The Cowboys will host a Showcase Evaluation Camp on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 from Noon-4 p.m. at Joe Miller Ballpark. The camp is designed for the athlete looking to showcase their skills in front of the entire McNeese coaching staff. This is a great camp for high school freshmen through junior college sophomores to showcase their talents and learn the skills needed to compete at the next level.

Equipment needed for the camps are a glove, cleats, baseball pants (optional) and cash for concessions.
