NANCY NANK TENNIS CENTER

The McNeese women’s tennis team plays all its matches at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center. The complex consists of eight all-weather courts, which were resurfaced in the summer of 2012, and are located just north of the Student Recreation Center on the main campus. The complex is run in conjunction with the Student Recreation Center at McNeese. Four of the courts are lighted for play at night. Prior to the 2012 season, canopies were installed over bleachers that are between both sets of courts. The complex was renamed the Nancy Hank Tennis center on June 14, 2010 in memory of the late Nancy Hank who was an avid tennis player and fan who took up the game in the early 1970’s. She was born in Galesville, WI and attended college at the University of Dubuque in Iowa. She was married to Harry Hank for 35 years and spent most of her adult life in Lake Charles. The center is a great venue that is used for a variety of local, regional, and state-wide tournaments and clinics. The tennis complex and McNeese hosted the 2004 Southland Conference tennis tournament, in which the Cowgirls advanced to the championship match for the first time in school history. In 2007, the Cowgirls hosted Lamar in the highest attended match in school history.

Under second year head coach Helena Besovic, the Cowgirls completed the 2016 season with a 15-9 overall record. It was just the seventh time in school history that a McNeese women’s tennis squad had scored 15 or more wins in a single season. Following a 7-4 mark in Southland Conference play, the Cowgirls appeared in the SLC Tournament and advanced to the semi-finals after defeating New Orleans, 4-1. McNeese fell to eventual champion A&M-Corpus Christi in a tough fought, 4-3 match. Sophmore Hannah Brett captured first team All-SLC and All-Louisiana honors in singles action after completing a remarkable season. She finished with a 19-3 overall record on the court including an 18-match consecutive wins streak that she will carry into the 2017 season. Brett was also selected to the SLC All-Academic team as a first-team selection. Freshman Giovanna Fioretti was chosen as the league’s Freshman of the Year as she finished the year with a 14-7 overall singles record as well as a 11-6 mark in doubles action. She split time between the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots and captured five wins in each position. Sophomore Sarah Jurakova was selected to the All-SLC and All-Louisiana second team after a 16-5 singles record including a 9-2 mark in the No. 3 spot. McNeese also bid a final farewell to seniors, Klaudia Gawlik and Anastasija Trubich, who gave their all and helped add to the tradition of the Cowgirl Tennis. Gawlik finished her career as a McNeese netter after having won 60 singles matches as a Cowgirl. The mark stands as the second most in McNeese tennis history while her 39 wins in doubles play is good for ninth all-time. Gawlik was a two-time SLC Player of the Year as well as the league’s Freshman of the Year. She was a three-time all-conference selection. Trubich scored eight victories in 10 of her last singles matches this season that helped the Cowgirls maintain one of the top spots in the SLC race during the 2016 season and finished the season undefeated in league play. She finished her two-year career with 14 singles wins and 12 doubles wins as she was named All-SLC last season for her play in doubles.
