JANUARY 2016 A NOTE OF APPRECIATION: I want to take time again this year to thank everyone for their commitment and support for New Holland United Methodist Church. We continue to be a congregation that God uses to Ignite His Light in the midst of New Holland. Certainly, that support and commitment is demonstrated in a variety of ways (As we celebrated the reception of new members into the church on December 13, we all agreed to support the church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our mission). These five things are all equally important and God accomplishes his purposes through us as we fulfill all the of our membership vows. But now I just want to say something about “gifts.” Through your faithful giving, 2015 has been another successful year financially. A few of the highlights included: -We were able to provide $3000 to the GRAICO clean water project in Haiti (a separate report is included about this mission) -We met our pledge of $2000 to the “pre-1982 Pension Fund” which is underfunded. (2016 will be the final year of our 3-year pledge) - The Missions obligations in the budget were totally met! - Our ongoing expenses have all been paid! - Once again, our Connectional Ministries bill which we pay to the conference was fulfilled at 100%! - We have paid $20,000 on our building loan through the “Grow Our Heritage” campaign! This is only possible because of you! Of course, worshipping God and being the Body of Christ involves more than simply our giving, but this is a wonderful display of his faithfulness and your generosity! We thank you for your support and commitment to New Holland United Methodist Church and pray that God will continue to bless us and lead us that we may be blessings to others as we Ignite the Light together.

I'm happy to submit to you this report about the project of chloride distribution tablets to kids in order to purify water to prevent cholera disease in Haiti. From June to November 2015, 2650 children received one bottle of chloride solution to purify drinking water at their homes. When we consider one child per family received the chloride solution and the average family size is 5, our intervention allowed approximately 13,250 people have access to safe drinking water in the Artibonite region of Haiti. Unfortunately, during this period the vehicle we use -- a 4x4 pick-up capable to provide transportation in the difficult terrain -- was down and needed to be repaired. In my voice for all the beneficiaries, I say THANKS to NHUMC, especially to everyone that supported this activity God bless you, Dr. Jean Marie Boisrond GRAICO “And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded." THANK YOU FOR THE BOUNTIFUL MITTEN TREE REPORT FROM THE GRAICO MINISTRY 2

December was Mitten Tree Time, which meant you had an opportunity to donate mittens, gloves,

scarves, and hats for children and adults. In January they will be given to the Welsh Mountain Medical Center for distribution to those in need.

the sign will come out of our investment fund. No general fund monies will be used. It will be wonderful to be able to use the sign to publicize all the events and activities that meet at the church. We will also be able to use the sign for announcements and events that involve the Greater New Holland Community. This new method of Igniting the Light will allow the ministries here at New Holland UMC to become more visible and allow us to play a valuable role in our neighborhood. --New Holland UMC Administrative Council

IGNITING THE LIGHT! There will soon be a new light along Main Street in New Holland as we attempt to follow our church’s mission statement and Ignite the Light. Thanks to an alert church member, we were able to purchase the digital sign that had been in front of the Sportsman Shop when the business moved. And this good news gets even better! The sign is only one year old and still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and the purchase price was only $10,000 (approximately one third of the cost of a new sign!) While we will have installation costs of several thousand dollars, the church council decided it was too good of a deal to miss. In a move that adheres to the wishes of the one who made a special bequest to the church, all the expenses related to purchasing and installing 3

Electronic Giving! Did you know that you can give your regular weekly offering to the church through electronic giving? Electronic giving is convenient for you and provides much-needed donation consistency for our congregation. Our secure online web site, http://nhumc.us/, now has a link to our donation site. If you go to this site and click the button “ON-LINE GIVING,” you will be able to follow the directions to make a contribution to the church with your credit card. This will be a way to support NHUMC when you are unable to make it to the services, but would like to give your offering. You can also set up a regular systemized deduction from your checking or savings bank accounts or credit or debit card by filling out an authorization form available in the church office or through the web site. This can be set up to deduct your amount weekly, monthly, or how often you choose. If you have any questions, contact Selma Wells, Finance Chair. If you have a smart phone, you can use the following QR code:

The Noisy Offering for the months of January and February will go to support the ELANCO Social Services Network in New Holland. ESSN is reaching out to those in need in the ELANCO community by providing hope and assistance to all who seek it. They accomplish this by partnering with area churches, business and service providers to supply assistance with housing, food, clothing and social services, etc.

Matching Funds Campaign Report December 20, 2015 Thank you for your continued generous support! We did it! We were able to reach the goal of making a 2nd matching payment of $10,000 on our church loan in December. Our Matching Funds Campaign started in September 2015 and with your generous support we made two extra payments totaling $20,000! The total received in donations is $13,938.00, as of December 20, 2015. With the 4

matching fund grant we were able to pay an additional $20,000 on our church debt. Due to the deadline of the newsletter, I am sorry that I cannot report the total received during the month of December. Many thanks to all who have supported the Matching Funds Campaign and your Christmas gifts to the church in support of our loan reduction are deeply appreciated. We shared with you the exciting news in September of the matching gift of up to $50,000 which would make it possible to pay off the church loan debt. This would result in the saving of tens of thousands of dollars in interest payments and freeing up money each month that can be used in missions and ministries in town and around the world. Please continue to pray for the success of this campaign and what it means to the life and ministry of our church to be debt free. We ask that you consider using the special offering envelopes that are available at the church on the table at the bottom of the stairs. Include your name or envelope number to have this contribution included on your giving statement Contributions of any amount are deeply appreciated as we strive be good stewards of God’s gifts and to Ignite His Light. – Finance Committee
