Penny Ashford finds inspiration in nature and in particular, water and the abstracted movement, light and color of the sea. Literally immersed in her subject, Ashford employs an underwater camera, which changes the traditional horizon line from a straight horizontal line to a fluid and moving line. Extreme close ups of bubbles and eddies turn into abstracted forms with biomorphic structure and composition. Her camera is an extension of her eye and is carried with her on her travels to various locations in the world.
