The material that fills the gabion may also be chosen according to the function for which it is being applied. Hard wearing granite is more durable and thus suitable when being subjected to highly erosive forces. Table mountain sandstone, which presents colours ranging from soft pastels to brown and rusty red might be used where the gabion needs to blend in with the environment.

Since recently launching our Faces of the Future Campaign, we thought it fitting to interview 2 of our winning candidates in our interview section of Pro Landscaper Africa. Charldon Wilken and Albert Smuts are the young co-founders of Fieldworks Design Group. This company is an ambitious multi-disciplinary design firm focused on embodying the main three spheres needed to create Sustainable cities: Economic, Social, and Environmental. The practice believes in coherent and holistic engagement between different design disciplines and is firmly grounded in the inherent and inseparable relationship that exists between construction and design. The team have recently worked on some pioneering projects and are heavily involved in the green community.

For clean lines and a high end finish, weld mesh is usually used.

When gabions are used for the purpose for which they were originally intended (as a means of retaining soil and preventing erosion) the gabion basket dimensions are determined by the lateral forces they will be subjected to. A simple rule of thumb: - The taller and steeper the slope that is being retained, the bulkier and hence heavier the structure insert needs to be. It is after all the deadweight of the structure that holds the soil back, preventing slippages and erosion. A structural engineer will need to be involved in the designing of tall and technical walls which may pose a danger to life or assets. Taller structures might also require council approval so please consult with your local municipality.

Weld mesh comes in many wire thicknesses and aperture sizes (50mm x 50mm ; 50mm x 75mm; 100mm x 100mm and so on) The aperture size and wire thickness is determined by each sites requirements. The mesh is usually made of either stainless steel (which is prohibitively expensive) or galvanised mild steel. The drawback with welded mesh is that it is more expensive than its cheaper alternative, twisted hexagonal mesh (THM).

Where the gabions are visible the choice of mesh might be of importance.

Methodology and Concept The aspects that culminated into theory are the polluted soil which is an environmental concern and unused open space which is an urban linkage concern which occurs on an industrial heritage site that contains significant heritage structures and remnants. This can be brought into remembrance, while inscribing new memories through the Open Narrative Approach by applying a multiplicity of space by physical three realities. Three narratives are

According to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Open Space System (JMOSS), there is a high priority to link secondary open spaces such as the educational premises. The Johannesburg Gas Works forms part of Jozi’s cityscape and the three remaining 45meter high gas cylinders represents a visual iconic landmark in the city. The site is currently inaccessible.

applied by the three realities– it offers three different experiential layers through time. The past is represented by the lower, historical layer, the present is represented by the transient (Intermezzo – derived from the Rhizome) and the upper reality provides a holistic view of the site and of all its transient qualities. The following design principles were used derived from the overlapping principles of the Open Narrative and Phenomenology: Mutualism, multiplicity, movement, experience and incomplete stages. The Open Narrative inspired the concept of Mutualism through its principles along with the social values. Mutualistic organisms assisted in the form‐giving such as fungi and lichens. Mounds are a universal concept to bury the dead. It becomes symbolic of burying the old manner of exploitation. The user may witness the shaving of the myco‐remediated contaminated soil mounds annually from 8m to

user experiences between the upper, lower and middle reality.

The aim of this dissertation will be to determine the manner in which a user experience can be created as a palimpsest of meaning between the tangible and intangible elements on site. This implies a dialogue between the polluted areas of industrial waste, the layers of historical significance and the remnants of nature.

The groundwater is polluted with organic (PAH’s – Phenols mostly) as well as inorganic contaminants (Heavy metals – Mn, Fe, Cu and Ni) and should be treated before it migrates off‐site between 12‐100 years. Contaminated water will be pumped from the affected boreholes and go through a specific process.

The dissertation specifically focuses on awareness creation through the landscape experience on a post‐industrial site of the associated social exploitation and environmental contamination.

The Piped Braamfontein Spruit is proposed to be opened up, to restore any possible lost riverine habitats. The development run‐off is also treated by means of a cut‐off swale from the opened‐up Braamfontein Spruit.

Remediation Rehabilitation will take place in the Master Plan Area where most contamination is found. The design is to be realised through incomplete stages over a 20‐year period, which allows for various

The soil pollution consists of liquid coal tar (DNAPL) and heavy metals. Phyto‐technologies applicable to Manufactured Gas Plant sites are proposed to remediate the soil for the varying

Conclusion A new narrative is inscribed onto the site and provides multiple experiences with each visit to the site through a phased intervention that opens up areas and processes for experience as they become decontaminated. To facilitate the palimpsest of tangible and intangible meaning, the user experience is proposed to consist of three realities: a lower, in‐between and upper reality with increasing elements of transience. The essence of the design and its programme becomes mutualistic (as opposed to exploitative), based on the principles outlined by Klein (2014) namely, “interdependence, reciprocity and cooperation”. The goal of the design intervention is to foster a renewed community identity and social and environmental health through the range of active and passive activities proposed but also through the particular experiences that open up the site for renewed interpretation to all users. The dissertation demonstrates that new meanings can be applied to spaces that once posed a cultural limitation. A mutualistic relationship between the site and the people can and should co‐exist.

Gabion Baskets: They Box Rocks! Pro Landscaper profiles Gabion Baskets, a well versed and multidisciplinary company, who for over 12 years, has been supplying gabion products and services to discerning clients all over southern Africa. Their products can be used for a plethora of applications and they have serviced many industries. Aside from being a member of the South African Institute of Architecture (SAIA) & The South African Federation of Contractors (SAFCEC), Gabion Baskets have quite a bit on offer for the landscaping sector. Gabion Baskets is a family owned and run business and their energy and passion is infectious. Pro Landscaper catches up with Clinton Cheyne, who will be heading up Gabion Baskets new Cape Town branch.

decision to move into this realm and start his own company. A decision he has not regretted as it has grown into various provinces around South Africa.

The business was started back in 2008 by Louis Cheyne with a vision of assisting Civil Engineers around South Africa with the design of gabion structures and supply of gabion and associated materials. The company has since grown into a gabion manufacturer, and has now diversified into many different market segments including Architectural, Civil Engineering, Landscaping sectors and even the domestic market.

What sectors do you service?

What is the expertise of the founders of this company that lead them to this business?

or for retaining walls and in some cases even structural walls. They can stabilise the soil and prevent erosion. There are a multitude of applications. What are Gabion Baskets made from? These cages were originally wicker, believe it or not, but now are usually a welded mesh made of sturdy galvanized, coated, or stainless-steel wire that won't bend when filled with rocks. Do you supply the product as well as install it? We are a manufacturer, designer and supplier/ site trainer. We do offer full installation, but this is all Sub-contracted as a separate service. Full onsite advise and practical training is offered, which can be accompanied by a skilled installer if the full installation is required.

In what type of applications are best suited to gabions?

Where in South Africa can our audience members find your products or utilise your services?

Gabions are best suited for erosion control against the sides of river embankments or for retaining collapsible soil embankments or prevention of rock fall against the sides of roadways. In landscaping they can be used aesthetically,

We have 3 Branches in South Africa: Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. We do however have many agents that offer local supply of our products and services in other areas of South Africa.

www.prolandscaper.co.za www.prolandscaper.co.za

How big is the team that is employed? We have approximately 15 office staff and our factory staff fluctuates from around 40 People up to 60 depending on how busy we are. We hire temporary staff members when we reach our busy periods to assist with manufacture of larger orders. What other products aside from gabions do you provide to the landscaping industry? We provide 3 types of Gabions firstly Galvanized, Galvanized + PVC coated and Welded Mesh. These are our 3 main gabion products. We also supply a list of geosynthetic materials, Geotextile or Bidim, Soil Saver and Coir type Blankets. These can be seen on the Gabion Baskets website. We see that your products are proudly South African… It’s great to wear a Proudly South African badge… how do you manage to maintain a Proudly South African Product? All of our raw materials are manufactured by our suppliers in Johannesburg, South Africa. We receive and produce our baskets from all locally sourced materials in our factory in Johannesburg and we of course make use of local labour. This whole Proudly South African process is important to our business.

What is one of your favourite projects you have recently worked on?

What are your company goals for the next 5 years? And where would you like to see your products? Our goal for the next five years is to make our products available to the whole of the southern African community, as we understand that there is a big need to build infrastructure in S.A and neighbouring countries to enhance economic activity and development of housing and local industry as well as the network links of rail and road for transportation of goods and farm produce/mining activities. We have the skills and want to make those available to the different countries where required. We plan to do this by linking with suitable people who also have the same desire as we do to provide great products and services to outer lying areas where they are needed. In many of these countries, for example Zimbabwe, not much development has taken place over the last almost 40 years and we see the need in those countries to create projects that provide many unskilled work opportunities for these people.

Corobrik’s striking new paving selection

Corobrik’s paving range has always proved popular in both commercial and residential developments, and the newly-launched piazza pavers are set to continue this trend as Corobrik meets market demands of aesthetics and quality. “We noticed a surge in the number of customers requesting tones of grey, from light graphite to dark onyx, as a paving option,” explained Musa Shangase, Corobrik’s Commercial Director. “Corobrik has always prided itself in the ability to meet market requirements as they emerge, and the introduction the latest piazza paver, doppio and cobble pavers has proved timeous and on-trend.” The new paving range received a lot of attention at the recent KwaZulu-Natal Construction

Meet the Effective Surface Draining Blocks

The Beany Block from Technicrete is an efficient and practical solution for effective drainage due to its large flow capacity/unit weight ratio, making it a more cost-effective solution than conventional kerbing and drainage offerings. The Beany Block system comprises a series of Base Blocks of standard channel section and Top Blocks of inverted channel section with an opening in one side face. When laid end to end they form a combined kerb and surface water drainage unit that is strong enough to withstand normal traffic loading.

Somerset Lakes and its surroundings offer countless activities for visitors and residents alike and many amenities amidst an attractive and serene environment. The estate is proud to have Reddam House Somerset onsite, which facilitates effortless living with easy access to education. Somerset West’s state-of-the-art indigenous nursery is a never-ending supplier of Somerset Lakes’ award-winning landscape. The five-star clubhouse, with sparkling swimming pool, overlooks the six-hectare lake, backed with the stunning scenery of the Helderberg. Planning Partners designed the landscape, with implementation of the gardens by Atlanticscapes.

Pro Landscaper Africa | October 2018

Corobrik has traditionally provided the standard size paver 220 x 108.5 x 50mm thick, however the newly launched piazza paver 220 x 50 x 50mm, doppio 220 x 220 x 50mm and the cobble 110 x 110 x 50mm are hitting the mark. These add to Corobrik’s range of clay pavers which boast a mixture of colours, size and types, offering a unique style and tone for every development. Currently the popular paving designs include the use of the same colour paver, alongside a different size for the header or edging. Alternatively, the borders of the paved surface are being highlighted by introducing a different colour for the header or edging. The herringbone paving pattern remains a popular option for driveways because of the superior interlocking properties and an improved overall look, while pathways are still predominantly in the stretcher bond pattern. Each standard Top and Base Block is 500mm in length and weighs approximately 85kg.They have also been designed to withstand accidental 80KN axle loading. The Top Block oval openings provide for greater inlet capacities compared to conventional kerb inlets. Standard blocks can be used for curve radii of 30mm or more. ‘Splay’ blocks are available to meet specific requirements with a radius of between 6m and 30m. Benefits The system can be substituted for kerbs, stormwater pipework, kerb inlets and parts of footways. Damaged services are less likely to occur when installing the Beany Block due to its simple and practical design and installation. Some of the traditional problems experienced with conventional drainage that the Beany Block system eliminates include: insufficient fall;

When it comes to paving applications, there is a choice of the sand-grouted or closed joint, alternatively the cement grouted or open paving variations.

“The timeless, earthy look and inherent durability are some of the primary reasons Corobrik’s pavers are constantly chosen for outdoor construction,” said Shangase. “We will continue to adapt our ranges with current trends while retaining the highest level of product quality throughout.” www.corobrik.co.za

conflicting levels of service mains and cables; ponding adjacent to low points; traffic safety and control on existing freeways. Additional cost savings can be achieved on projects that have wide freeways and footways; freeways that have ‘flat’ longitudinal falls; rock in sub-grade; shallow outfall and existing services or foul drainage at conflicting levels. Applications The Beany Block has been designed for use in conjunction with SABS Fig. 3 and Fig.4 Barrier Kerbs. The Beany produces 400mm length of inlet opening for every 1m of kerb. The system can be used in any application where high inlet capacity is required; wide freeways; parking areas; taxi ranks and bus depots; wash bays and vehicle service areas; median islands; industrial areas; drainage around buildings and walkways and toll plazas. www.technicrete.co.za

Landscape Architecture. The iconic Geoff Nichols regaled us with stories of the wildlife that moved in as he “re-wilded” his garden. Of overhanging tree canopies with a diverse mix of undergrowth, populated by cobras under the stairs, green mambas in the trees, plus birds, bats and insects that would be the envy any ecologist. Yolandi Schoeman, an entrepreneur and specialist in ecological engineering, gave a highly informative talk on the use of specific plant species and ecological systems that are used as an alternative to chemical treatment plants for mine water and other types of effluent.

The Green Connexion’s Jason Law designs a garden in Eastern Cape’s Olivewood Golf Estate highlighting the area's biodiversity.

In line with the theme of connecting through landscape, thirteen speakers from across South Africa shared their research and case studies fulling out the sub themes of connecting through ecology, technology, transdisciplinarity and culture. Being exposed to such a diversity of ideas provides a necessary nudge to professionals to look up from routine approaches and to try something new.

The Rum Shack is Situated in the picturesque coastal town of Chintsa, just 40 kilometres outside of East London, in the Olivewood Golf Estate. The design brief was simple. The owners Keith and Caroline wanted the garden to boast the Eastern Cape’s biodiversity thoroughly. The clients love Aloes and wanted all the sunny north facing areas to be filled with Aloes and succulents expressing their fondness. Leading out the Summer Kitchen onto the lawn, they wanted to create a forest that would eventually become a habitat for birds which they can enjoy while utilising the space.

For the first time two closely related landscape disciplines shared a joint conference session. After a number of years discussing the possibility, ILASA and the Land Rehabilitation Society of South Africa (LaRSSA) agreed to pilot a collaborative event. Starting with a joint morning session, followed by parallel conferences, delegates from both associations were invited to attend sessions of the other association.

Andrea Cochran’s spatial understanding and outstanding lines define her work. She uses simple plant palettes and proportion that relate intimately to the Architecture. Somehow she manages not to make large open spaces feel impersonal and her designs are always in harmony with the contours of the site allowing functional design and privacy. Some of the works I most admire are The Nueva School CA, Energy Biosciences Building CA, Helen Diller Civic Centre Playground.

To wrap up the ILASA – Corobrik 2018 Conference was a resounding success, everyone we spoke to had only positive things to say. The highlights, besides the interesting presentations and invigorating Drakensberg landscape, were the numerous opportunities to catch up with old friends and colleagues at fireside conversations. Old friendships were renewed and new friendships were kindled. ILASA is now setting it sights on the ILASA 2019 Awards of Excellence.

The Institute for Landscape Architecture in South Africa (ILASA) held its two day 2018 conference in the Central Drakensberg on the 13th and 14th of August. We could not have asked for a better location. The venue was sublime; nestled in the Champagne Valley at the foot of the Champagne Castle and Cathkin peaks. The majestic mountain range was ever present. On Saturday morning those of us up at sunrise were greeted by snow dusted mountain peaks, rising up above a glowing yellow Drakensberg range. Having expected cold winter weather we were surprised as the days quickly warmed up, remaining warm for the rest of the conference. On Saturday evening delegates gathered together for a wonderful Gala Dinner with excellent food, wine and conversations.

ILASA and LaRSSA plan to look into greater collaboration in future. ILASA will also be exploring the potential of a combined green industries annual event together with the South African Green Industries Council.

Because every paver is sourced from age-old deposits, they each exude an appealing earthy nature that is both aesthetically profound and extremely durable, able to withstand high levels of loading. The pavers are renowned for their colour integrity – possible through natural pigmentation – rich texture and minimal maintenance requirements.

“While trends in pattern, application and colour will always change, we continue to find that customers remain unwavering in the requirements of colour-fastness and skidresistance that Corobrik pavers offer,” said Shangase.

The clubhouse island was conceived late in the project development and was created to accommodate people for functions and events, and as a starting point for across-the-dam swimming. This corner of the dam was unsightly as it had silted up, so the island was built with material from desilting and deepening the dam.

One of the more difficult items of the installation was the sourcing of large rock. In total more than 50 large boulders averaging 1m x 1,5m in size, many weighing more than a ton, were sourced from JKT Rocks based in Somerset West. Once the boulders had been hand-picked the problem of delivering them arose. Regular sized trucks were not suitable to transport the rock as there were concerns of damaging the trucks when loading the boulders. So, a mine dump truck was brought in to transport the rock from the quarry to site.

The clubhouse is the focal point of Somerset Lakes development, positioned centrally and wedged between the Stone Pine forest behind and the old farm dams in front. Indigenous gardens flow from the pool area to the dam, providing various semi-secluded spaces for groups to picnic or just sit and enjoy the view. Including a play area meant that both children and parents are suitably entertained during their visit. The diverse indigenous planting palette has proven to be incredibly popular with the local birdlife with a large variety of birds having been spotted around the clubhouse.

GILL HIGGINS Dr. Gwen Theron has been and continues to be an inspiring individual. I’ve worked for her for a couple of years and I am currently working with her, as part of a team of Consultants, on conducting a 'Landscape Character' assessment on the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. As an employee you gain immense respect for your employer when you witness how they successfully steer their ship under the immense pressures of the building industry, whilst also working tirelessly. It’s quite inspiring when you get an email at 2h00 in the morning, knowing that after a whole day of meetings, she conducted further desktop work, before and after spending time with her family and somehow manage to catch the new Game of Thrones release – which happens at 3h00 in the morning. This really happened. She was in the office at 8h00. It’s possible to study abroad, obtain your Ph.D., work in academia and then continue on to build up a company – Gwen is living proof. (There is also never a dull moment).

Atlanticscapes’ work on the clubhouse gardens lasted 3 months. The project started in November 2016 and was completed in January 2017. The clubhouse island started in May 2016 but was completed only in October 2016 as the project was brought to a halt for 2 months, due to the dam filling rapidly during one rainfall. Work started again once the bridge to the island had been built.

biodiversity of the Eastern Cape and tried to bring in as much variety as possible. The courtyard between the house and the summer kitchen would become a food garden filled with a mix of organically grown herbs, veggies and natural medicine plants. A wetland area was designed and built to catch the overflow of the storm water. This small water body has become a watering hole for the estate’s wild fauna which consists of a variety of antelope. Beneath the existing trees onsite, masses of Clivias and Agapanthus were planted to add to the biodiversity notion. Other elements where introduced to give the landscape an Eastern Cape natural feel such as traditional Isixhosa clay pots and driftwood features. www.prolandscaper.co.za www.prolandscaper.co.za

Where did your love for Horticulture begin? My love for horticulture was strongly influenced by my mother, my childhood neighbour and grandparents who were all avid gardeners. I have fond memories of gardening with my mother from a very young age. She was always very patient allowing me to participate at that tender age. I probably did more damage than good, but she allowed me to experience plants, which encouraged me to appreciate plants and the wonderment they hold. I would sit for hours waiting, watching her Spider lily (Hymenocallis littoralis) to see when the petals would pop open and reveal the beautiful white webbed flowers. These plants are a symbol of such fond memories, that I still grow some of the very same plants in my home garden today, just as a reminder of simple pleasures. If you put the daily turmoil of life on hold, and sit in a garden you find peaceful equilibrium and simple, fulfilling living existence abounding around you. I love horticulture because plants and their supporting ecosystem can immediately bring a sense of peace to my life and remind me about living in the moment, enjoying simple pleasures. Who has influenced your career in Horticulture? Two very remarkable Horticulturist come to mind. Jim Holmes from Cape Seed and Bulbs gave me insights into growing and understanding a variety of rare and special plants at an early time in my career. He demonstrated the passion, love of plants and the endurance a Horticulturist needs to have their own nursery and business. Anthony Hitchcock, has influenced me for many www.prolandscaper.co.za

years and tutored me in botanical horticulture. He allowed me to appreciate and value South African plants and shared with me a wealth of knowledge and encouraged expansion of awareness and plant understanding which can only be gleaned from experiencing plants in their natural habitat. I have always been inspired by the vibrant gardening culture in Europe and how plants and horticulturists are valued and it is acceptable to feel gardening is an expression of art. Where do you see Horticulture progressing to in the next few years? Through my interactions with the International Plant Propagators Society SA and local landscapers such as Marijke Honing, I see many Horticulturists and horticultural businesses reinventing themselves to cope with the changing climatic conditions and ideals of landscaping. There is a drive towards understanding and implementing sustainable, resilient and ecological landscapes, which in turn creates and dictates the plant demand from growers in the country. Projects you have been involved in and people you would like to work with? I have invested 13 years into the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden which has allowed me the freedom to landscape and display ornamental South African flora for everyone to appreciate. It is a stimulating and exciting as there is an abundance of South African plants to utilise and I can express my own gardening

MONIQUE MCQUILLAN style and interests. I work with thematic and demonstration gardens such as Fragrant plants, Threatened species, Water wise, Wildlife friendly and Invasive weed gardens for public awareness and education.

THERESA ASSAD Assad Director @ Theresa Horticulture

I have a wonderful library of diverse books and since the Kindle App has made its appearance, I’ve been able to fulfil that instant gratification impatience, however the joy of holding a good ole’ fashioned book in my hands will never fade and I prefer my reference books and old favourites to be in the printed and bound form. One such paper book, with wonderful photographs is by Professor Ben-Eric van Wyk titled People’s Plants.

I am interested in working with the Cape Resilient Landscaping Forum which has so much potential and scope to influence the horticultural and landscaping industry. Their holistic approach to landscaping towards sustainable, resilient gardens and landscapes speaks to the future of gardening in South Africa as we adapt to changing climatic conditions. Obstacles and achievements faced throughout your career?

At this point I must mention he is a prolifically published author and I would encourage anyone interested in nature to read his works.

I have found the Horticultural industry to be a very supportive one. My biggest obstacle initially was staff management. As the years passed, I gained some experience and life skills and staff management turned into one of my achievements. I have managed to find a balance between supervision and delegation. I have been surrounded by dedicated, enthusiastic staff at Kirstenbosch and find that empowering and educating them have been extremely rewarding.

People's Plants is a scientific review of all of the most important useful plants of southern Africa. It remains the first and only fully illustrated ethnobotanical reference source for southern Africa. In this expanded and updated second edition, traditional and contemporary uses of more than 700 plants are described and illustrated in 20 chapters, each dealing with a specific category of plant use.

Your favourite landscaped area in South Africa?

This fascinating book is a must for anyone interested in useful plants, new crop plants, medicinal plants, new product development, ecotourism, rural development, traditional crafts, African culture, ethnobotany and botany in general.

I enjoy all forms of landscapes and take inspiration from many different forms and styles, I don’t have any favourites.

People’s Plants is talking to me on many levels. I opened it at random, at a section that describes Boophane disticha and was fascinated by his description of it having been the main arrow poison for small game that the San Bushmen in southern Africa used. A few weeks ago, I was walking in the mountains of Riversdale which burnt in February this year and came across some Boophane disticha growing in an area I have not observed them growing before the fire. It’s doubly fascinating because this particular area has an incredible rock overhang with many paintings, some depicting shamans walking upright and carrying a bow. (Referenced and identified by archeologist Rene Rust and mentioned in her book; Water, Stone and Legend.) Talk about time travel! I find People’s Plants such an interesting read because whether you pick it up and read a paragraph or get lost in it and emerge blurry-eyed the following morning when the alarm screams at you to get up and get into the gardens. It covers foods and drinks, health and beauty, skills and crafts such as hunting and fishing, dyes, thatching, etc.

One of my projects is working with rehab patients doing therapy gardening and I’ve been forced to become even more creative in an endeavour to encourage an interest and involvement in gardens with the patients who are already going through a tough time, and show them, especially those with no interest or massive resistance to gardening, how fascinating the subject actually is. I find their thanks and appreciation at the end of their program very encouraging. Being able to show them the medicinal uses of Bulbine frutescens, the joy of picking freshly grown organic herbs and vegetables and some of the fragrances the plants let off, all of these thanks to some wonderful books. By the end of their program, I hope I have at least managed to instil a better appreciation for nature with the patients and created an awareness.

Going forward, I’m finding out that the more I read, the more I want to read and learn and I’m going to be dusting off Medicinal Plants by Ben-Eric van Wyk and looking through that again soon, because one book is just not enough.

From a landscaping point of view, I’ve been utilising edible and interesting plants in my gardens for many years, mostly for the fun and culinary aspect, however an expanded knowledge on useful plants has expanded my scope. www.prolandscaper.co.za

FUTURESCAPE We welcomed 412 delegates from around southern Africa and had a total of 580 people in attendance on this day with 44 SACLAP Registered Firms through our seminar registrations. We were blown away by the volume of delegates who joined us from Gauteng, KZN and neighbouring provinces and by the sheer need for an event of this type. We would certainly call this a great success and we are thrilled with the rate at which our initiatives are growing and quite importantly showing promise for up-coming events. With chock-full seminars and a great audience and exhibitor atmosphere, we are certain that our maiden voyage (with a very fitting venue, overlooking the Atlantic) has set the tone for the many more events to come which we are so looking forward to hosting. 2019 Promises 650 delegates and will be doubling its exhibitors offerings at a brand new venue!
