Prime Strength + Conditioning

Jesse Tupper and Sheila Townsend have a company philosophy of “being your prime” which combines working out, eating well and relaxing into daily life with ease.

These ultra fit newlyweds, who got married last August, co-founded Prime Strength + Conditioning in 2007 and opened their training studio in 2009.

With extensive athletic backgrounds and impressive fitness credentials, they shared a common dream of building their careers around their passion for physical fitness.

Townsend played basketball with the Canadian National Team and represented Canada for five years. She played professionally in the Czech Republic, Germany and Australia. Tupper has over ten years of training and coaching experience. He played professional arena football for the Manchester Wolves for two seasons.

Prime’s studio space on Dunbar Street is a facility for personal and partner training complete with the latest Life Fitness training equipment, stylish change rooms and spa-like amenities. Highly qualified trainers work one on one with clients to ensure they meet their goals. An alternative to personal training is partner training. This cost-effective option can increase your chance for success. Partners do not have to be at the same fitness level as sessions are adapted to meet individual needs.

In addition to the studio, Prime manages St. George’s Senior School Fitness Centre. Challenging boot camps with a low trainer/client ratio ensures excellent technique and appropriate modifications are in place for participants. Spinning classes also take place at this facility, which is equipped with the latest training equipment.

Tupper’s family has long-standing ties to the Dunbar community. Tupper’s great grandfather helped found St. George’s School, and both his grandfather and father attended the school. Jesse Tupper runs the fitness program for the junior and senior boys at St. George’s School.

Prime recognizes the importance of childhood fitness. QuicKids is a speed and agility based program for 6-14 year olds, designed to make kids more athletic through guided play, progressive movement exploration and of course lots of fun.

With personal service comes the pleasure of getting to know your clients. One stellar 70-yearold client has Parkinson’s; however, she does not let that get in her way of keeping fit. She has been training with Prime for four years, works out three times a week, and can out skip anyone. Last summer Prime staff and clients climbed over fifty Grouse Grinds as a group and raised over $2500 for Parkinson Society Canada. Tupper climbed the Grouse Grind an inspiring ten times and Townsend climbed an equally impressive seven times – in one day!

Tupper and Townsend promise that after a Prime session you will feel positive, energized and ready to take on the world. You never know, before long you may be climbing the Grouse Grind several times too!
