Spring Gardening 2021

Spend time with family and friends safely – outdoors

The reports are in that 2020 was a year that saw tremendous growth in the gardening sector. Homeowners spending more time at home are also enjoying spending time in their gardens. Millennials have taken up gardening in droves. Consider extending your outdoor patio season with a covered patio area for safe family gatherings.

Joys of Garden Renovations

With many new plants coming on the market each year, including fabulous varieties of plants that RE-bloom, consider shrubs again that you may have once thought didn’t bloom long enough to earn a spot in your landscape. Imagine extending the flowering season of Lilacs, Hydrangeas and Azaleas in your garden - it is possible with rebloomers.

Winter Gardening To-Do’s

• In case of a cold snap, cover emerging bulbs with mulch for a layer of protection • Water under the eaves. Plants with wellwatered roots survive cold snaps better. • Winter tree pruning – best done while plants are dormant • Dormant spraying of trees and shrubs. Get scale, insect problems under control. • Rose pruning. Cut out dead, diseased, damaged branches and prune roses to an open vase shape for increased air circulation.

Tip of the Year

Order early! If you are considering new plants for your garden, remember to buy or order early. Many nurseries saw their inventory sell out early last season.
