Presenter ELA Biographies Common Core Learning Standards & Assessments worked with the New York State Education Department to educate school districts and to provide turnkey training on the implementation of the Regents Reform Agenda initiatives. Sheila has presented at the National Reading Recovery Conference and New York State Reading Association Conferences as well as to other regional and local reading associations. In addition, Sheila has worked with various school district, university and parent groups.

Amy Cazes is the Supervisor of Literacy and Learning for Southern Westchester BOCES. For the past 15 years, she has served as an elementary classroom teacher, reading/literacy specialist, staff developer and literacy consultant. Amy recognizes the never-ending demands of the classroom and designs her workshops to be practical and interactive, providing participants with effective techniques that can be implemented the very next day in the classroom. A recipient of the Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program scholarship, Amy traveled to Japan with other outstanding educators to increase understanding of diverse cultures. She has received multiple grants for innovative classroom initiatives. Amy currently serves as SW BOCES Network Team member, working with the New York State Education Department to educate school districts to provide turnkey training on the implementation of the Regents Reform Agenda initiatives. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Management, a Master of Science in Teaching, a Master of Science in Reading and Literacy Education, and an Advanced Certificate in Educational Administration and Supervision.

Julie Budzinski-Flores is a literacy consultant and is known for her outstanding teaching demonstrations. She finds joy in working with teacher colleagues. She has experience in presenting and coaching Balanced Literacy practices. She also facilitates the alignment of reading and writing units with the standards and a balanced approach. Julie recently taught fifth grade literacy in the Newton Public Schools. She has experience teaching grades kindergarten through eighth grade, specializing in the teaching of literacy. Julie has served as literacy coach for the K-8 district where she promoted Reading and Writing Workshop, bringing the workshop model to the middle school. Julie studied psychology and gender studies at The College of New Jersey and elementary education at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is also highly qualified in Language Arts instruction. She has studied at Teachers College Reading and Writing Project both as a teacher and a literacy coach.

Lou Cordi has served as a high school English teacher, English Department Chairperson, ELA Curriculum Coordinator Grades 6-12, Literacy Leader and Staff Developer. He works with the New York State Education Department on high school testing. Mr. Cordi has spoken throughout the United States, sharing his expertise in literacy and his deep understanding of the instructional process. He is a member of the BOCES Network team, attending turn-key training in Albany with a focus on the ELA Common Core Learning Standards.

Colleen Carroll Ed.D. is a veteran literacy consultant, having served as an elementary teacher, elementary principal, Director of Literacy and Professional Development, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She has also contributed to post-secondary education textbooks in the area of literacy and writes articles on reading for publication in journals as well as local magazines such as NYSUT’s Educator’s Voice and Westchester Parent. Dr. Carroll won the Phi Delta Kappa National Award for Emerging Leaders in 2013-14 for her game-changing work with secondary teachers to improve the reading abilities of at-risk high school students. Her workshops are collaborative and hands-on, and participants leave with dozens of ideas, strategies and A-HAs! that have an immediate direct impact on their teaching. Dr. Carroll holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Spanish, a Master of Science in Reading, a School District Leader Certificate of Administration as well as a Doctorate of Education.

Ann Dalton, Esq. has 37+ years of experience advising governments and private clients on copy-right and other intellectual property matters; additionally, she is a national speaker on these subjects. She is licensed in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida. Her legal experience includes stints as Senior Attorney for Radio City Music Hall in New York City and as Legal and Business Affairs Counsel for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) Network News Division and ABC News Magazine “20/20.” Phyllis DiBianco has been as a Library Media Specialist in New York since 1984 and has actively participated with local and national colleagues in curriculum development utilizing the Continued on next page 88
