SWBOCES Center For Adult and Community Services In Harrison Welcome to the Southern Westchester BOCES community of adult learners. Each year, thousands of people in our communities take BOCES courses to enrich their careers and their lives. Many are embarking on new careers or improving job skills, others are improving their English or preparing for their High School Equivalency Exam. All of our students have a common goal; a brighter future for themselves and their families. We’re offering courses in demand areas like Liscensed Practical Nursing, Medical Assistant, Certified Nurse Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy & EKG Technician, Cosmotology, and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. FULL-TIME DAY PROGRAM

Intensive, adult training day program in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating. Designed as a preapprenticeship or mechanic training, students successfully completing the program will be equipped to enter the field at the apprentice level. Instruction includes: Introduction to refrigeration and A/C theory; identification and function of electrical components, controls, valves, compressors and evaporators; system assembly, trouble shooting, part repair and replacement; air handlers, A/C systems & ice machines; heating systems theory & installation (gas & oil fired); boiler installation and repair; oil burner, heating systems & troubleshooting, repair & installation. AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY - AUT *AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECHNICIAN Want a career that’s always in demand? Become an automotive service technician. Dealers and private shops are seeking qualified entry-level people. Learn the basic systems and move on to maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. You will practice your skills in our fully equipped shop with our professional mechanic/instructor. BUSINESS - BUS ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT In these economically challenging times, jobs in many fields are hard to find, even for those who have done “everything right.” People with knowledge, experience, and ambition to improve their lot may find entrepreneurship to be an option. This course is designed to improve the chance for a successful transition from training and employment to self-employment and small business management. POWER VOLTICS TECHNOLOGY - PVT Harness the Power of the Sun at SWBOCES Solar Energy/PV Program Photovoltaic (solar electric) systems are the alternative energy source of the future.

Use of solar electric on more and more buildings throughout the USA has created a demand for professionals trained to market, install and service these clean, renewable alternative energy systems. This sequence of courses is structured to allow a person with no previous experience to begin the process of becoming a Certified Solar PV Installer under the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).

INTRODUCTION TO PV TECHNOLOGY AND INSTALLATION

Prerequisite: Electricity and Basic Electronics - see Electrical - ELC. Do you have a strong interest in PV technology? Are you considering a career in the expanding field of solar electric? This course will give you the theoretical basis for understanding the various types of solar electric systems and practical skills required to install on-grid and off-grid PV systems. This workshop is designed to prepare qualified applicants for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level Exam. The exam is open to anyone who has taken a NABCEP approved course either through Southern Westchester BOCES or any other institution. The class will review the NABCEP Entry Level Exam of PV systems and the ten learning objectives on which the exam is based. GENERAL INFORMATION ADULT EDUCATION OFFICE HOURS: Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 8:00-3:30pm, Saturday, 8:00am-12:00pm AGE REQUIREMENT: You must be at least 18 years old to take Adult Education & Continuing Ed Courses. ATTIRE/CONDUCT: Some courses require appropriate attire for safety. Please check with your instructor. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a mature manner. Inappropriate and/or illegal behavior or failure to follow staff directions is not acceptable and will result in disciplinary or legal action. CAREER TRAINING LOANS: Career Training loans are available for eligible classes over $1,000. For more information, please Contact Mary Auguste at (914) 592-0849. CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION: SWBOCES Adult Education Department will award a Certificate of Completion to students who have maintained at least 80% attendance and have shown successful completion in the skills and aptitudes necessary for course completion as determined by a passing grade from the instructor. Completion of certificate requirements may differ for licensing programs and comprehensive accelerated programs. Duplicate Certificate Fee is $15. CLASS SCHEDULE: All class schedules are subject to change due to weather, availability of instructor and enrollment. SWBOCES makes every effort to schedule classes to meet the needs of our students. Please verify the schedule and location for your classes with the Adult Education Office. CONFIRMATIONS: You may assume your registration is accepted unless otherwise notified. When you provide an e-mail address, an automatic reminder will be sent to your e-mail seven days prior to the start of your class. You will be notified if your class has been cancelled. COURSE CANCELLATIONS/CHANGES: If SWBOCES cancels a course prior to the start date, 100% tuition and registration fee are refunded. Your registration acknowledges our course refund/cancellation policy, SWBOCES reserves the right to cancel or make changes in course offerings, locations, instructors, and times when necessary. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS/EDUCATIONAL RECORDS: Students may request an official letter or transcript of their grades or other student records by writing to the Adult Education registration office and enclosing a money order of $20 payable to Southern Westchester BOCES. PARTIAL PAYMENT PLANS AVAILABLE: For your convenience we offer a payment plan for any class over $1,000. Failure to pay the appropriate tuition by the due date may result in dismissal from the program. PAYMENT: Tuition (includes the cost of course materials except as noted) and the registration fee is payable upon registration. You will receive a receipt and be notified only if a class is canceled. Payment can be made with check, credit card (DISCOVER/MC/VISA) or money order only. PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES: Our campus is accessible to persons with disabilities. GENERAL INFORMATION (cont) REFUND POLICY: Please read carefully! All Refund requests must be made in writing. Full Refund: If termination of enrollment occurs prior to the first day of class, no tuition liability will be incurred-less a $100 withdrawal fee. Partial Refund: If a student withdraws after the first class and 24 hours prior to the second class, 75% of the tuition, less a $100 withdrawal fee, and textbook charge will be given. No Refund: There will be no refunds granted after the second day of class to program end. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS REFUND POLICY AND ITS PROCESS. Refunds, other than charge cards, will take at least 4-6 weeks. RETURNED CHECKS: Any fees incurred are the student’s responsibility. A $25 fee will be charged on returned checks. SCHOOL CLOSINGS: All evening classes will be cancelled when Southern Westchester BOCES is closed. Weather/Emergency cancellations will be broadcast on local radio and TV. See page 9 for more info, or visit our website at www.swboces.org/adulteducation to check on school closings. SECURITY/PERSONAL SAFETY/PARKING: Appropriate safety standards are adhered to in all classes and labs. All students are required to sign off on the Southern Westchester BOCES Code of Conduct on the first night of class. Students are required to provide personal protection equipment items such as goggles and aprons. Students are required to maintain appropriate business and professional behavior while on SWBOCES property. Prohibited behavior includes abusive behavior and language, violence, alcohol on breath or drug use, and sexual harassment, among other behaviors. Disregard for these prohibitions may warrant removal from the program. Refund policy does not apply. Students must park in designated areas. Students are subject to towing at owner’s expense, if they are parked in non-approved spaces. SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT: Senior citizens (62 years or over) are eligible for a 10% discount. Documentation is required (i.e. driver’s license, leisure pass, copy of birth certificate). This does not apply to tuitions over $1,000. SMOKING: In response to various laws, Southern Westchester BOCES has adopted a Smoke-Free Environment Policy. This policy prohibits smoking at all times in any Southern Westchester BOCES facility, on the grounds of all facilities and in Southern Westchester BOCES vehicles. SPECIAL ACCOMODATIONS: Students who require instructional accommodations are requested to contact a Vocational Advisor as soon as possible, but not less than 30 days prior to the beginning of the semester. Southern Westchester BOCES needs a minimum of 30 days to arrange for reasonable accommodations if so required.
