Phelps grant helping children swim, grow By MCSA Erik Luebke, Navy Public Affairs Support ElementEast Detachment Europe

hildren at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples are learning new skills in the pool as a result of a recent grant from the Michael Phelps Foundation. The Olympic gold medalist’s foundation awarded $16,750 to NSA Naples’ Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) as part of the foundation’s “im” youth swim program. For the past two months, children at NSA Naples have been receiving special instruction as a part of the “im” program, which is designed to encourage healthy and active lifestyles by offering water-safety courses, recreational pool activities and swim training. While the first iteration of the “im” program at NSA Naples is now coming to a close after two months of lessons, there will be another iteration of the swim class this summer, which will be incorporated into MWR’s summer day camp program. The summer program will last from June 25 to August 18 and is available for children in grades one through six. “It was fun learning how to float on my back, swim underwater and how to jump in the water without plugging my nose,” said Ryan Stiglitz, one of the children who participated in the April-May class. see SWIM Page 5

Renowned financial expert Suze Orman visits Naples sailors By MC2 (SW) Jeff Troutman, Navy Public Affairs Support Element-East Detachment Europe

ew York Times bestselling author and CNBC television personality Suze Orman recently stopped by Naval Support Activity Naples to speak to military community members and their families about financial investment and monetary responsibilities. Orman’s presentation, known as “The Money Class,” drew from her award-winning financial expertise as she interacted with community members about their current and future financial plans. “I came to Italy to speak to the men and women of the U.S. armed forces who are making sacrifices for our country’s freedom,” said Orman. “You can be both a better service member and a better person if you know how to properly manage your

money, and I’m here to tell you about how you can do that.” During hour-long presentations May 22 and May 23, Orman gave a brief history of her rise to financial prominence before outlining ways that service members can invest in their futures and save money each month. Orman did not hold back any punches when expressing her views on what it takes to save and invest money intelligently. “If you’ve learned anything from living in Italy, it’s that you don’t need a big car or expensive things to enjoy life to the fullest,” Orman said to the audience. “Money cannot do anything on its own – it needs people to control it. Powerful people accrue money, while powerless people repel it. To be powerful with money, you have to be debt-free.” see ORMAN Page 4

Captain’s Corner Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone! I’m sure this column finds many of you out and about taking advantage of a day or two off from work, possibly even out of the country for some travel. Enjoy the weekend safely and come back refreshed and ready to go. I’d like to take a moment and update you on Parco Eva. We had a town hall with the residents and explained that the lease will not be renewed as government-controlled housing after March 2013. We wanted to gauge residents’ desires to determine if we should pursue a continued relationship with the landlord for private leases for our personnel. Based on that meeting, we’re going to continue to engage with the landlord to develop an agreement that facilitates residents remaining in their homes after the lease expires. With this arrangement, Parco Eva residents would have leases similar to the those used by anyone who lives in town. We have many details to work out, but we are hopeful an agreement can be reached. I expect that Parco Eva, even after it transfers from government housing to economy housing, will remain popular with our community. Note that no such change is in the immediate future for Parco Le Ginestre. There’s a rumor floating around that the post office doesn’t allow the shipment of demijohns. This isn’t true — demijohns can be shipped from any post office here. There have been instances where the demijohns have come in extremely dirty, and the post office can’t ship snails or other live animals or plants, so please ensure whatever you’re shipping has been cleaned. We’re also not allowed to use an FPO post office for commercial purposes, so we have stopped individuals from shipping huge numbers of demijohns to the U.S. through the mail, as it appeared to be in support of an eBay business venture. So there are restrictions, but there isn’t a ban on demijohns. The pools open tomorrow at noon! They’ll be open tomorrow, Sunday, and Monday, and then only on the weekends through June 16 when school lets out. They’ll each be open five days a week after that, and the pools will stagger the off-days so there’s a pool open every day. This year we have discontinued the family passes, and patrons will be able to purchase splashcards or pay for each individual entry. Unfortunately, budget constraints are driving changes. We have worked diligently to keep all the pools open and retain the services to the maximum extent possible. Budget constraints Navy-wide are such that it wasn’t always a guarantee that both pools would be able to support the kind of hours we’re offering. We have raised prices to $4.00 for adults and $2.50 for children. Kids under 4 are free. If families purchase the 100-punch splash cards, the price per person is $2.00 each. While we have eliminated the Family Pass this year, a family of five can still enjoy a full day at the pool for $10.00. That is a bargain, especially when compared to other entertainment options. As the season progresses, we will monitor how we are doing and reserve the right to make adjustments based on how things are going. I’d like to send out a huge thank you to Suze Orman and everyone who helped put her visit together. It was a fantastic opportunity to hear from one of the nation’s most prominent financial advisers, and I know everyone learned a lot. Thank you again to the team here in Naples that made it happen and especially to Ms. Orman for her willingness to come speak to the troops. Her selfless dedication to helping those in uniform is commendable and greatly appreciated. Now, everyone go out and ensure your finances are in order. Our high school sports teams competed in the European championships up in Germany this week, and our girls’ soccer team, which entered the tournament with two championships and nearly three years undefeated, played in the finals yesterday against AFNORTH. Although at the time of publication the outcome wasn’t known, the team has been a powerhouse and we’re all extremely proud of those girls! The boys’ soccer team made it to the quarterfinals (well done, boys!), and softball, baseball, and boys’ and girls’ track kicked off yesterday and are expected to do very well. Congratulations on a wildly successful completion of the season! The summer season is just beginning. Be safe and enjoy!

Earthquake strikes Italy’s Emilia Romagna region, killing 7

Italian leaders mark anniversary of judge’s assassination

The earthquake that struck northern Italy early Sunday had its epicenter about 22 miles north of Bologna. According to civil protection agency officials, it was the worst to hit the Italian region of Emilia Romagna since the 1300s. Seven people died. Four of the them were workers on the overnight shift, while the other three victims, including a German tourist and an Italian centenarian, died of heart attacks. The earthquake caused about €200 million in damage to agriculture, according to the national famers’ group Coldiretti. The worst damage was to the production of Parmigiano Reggiano and the Grana Padano cheese. About 300,000 wheels of Parmigiano and 100,000 of Grana, each weighing about 88 pounds, were damaged when they fell off shelves in warehouses where they were undergoing the two-year-long seasoning process. The area affected by the earthquake produces 3.3 million wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano per year. Also as a result of the earthquake, about 3,500 people slept in tents and cars because their homes were damaged or they were too scared to return. Additionally, the earthquake damaged a number of historic buildings. On Tuesday, the Italian government declared a state of emergency for the areas affected by the earthquake in the northern provinces of Bologna, Modena, Ferrara and Mantua, releasing €50 million for the immediate recovery effort. The government announced that it would suspend property tax on damaged factories and homes. More than 5,000 workers around the cities of Modena and Ferrara were unable to work because their offices and factories were not fit for use. Italy’s last major earthquake was in 2009, when an earthquake killed more than 300 people in the central Italian city of L’Aquila, where the historic center is still largely uninhabited and in ruins.

Wednesday marked the 20th anniversary of the assassination of anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone in Sicily. A 500-kilogram bomb was used in the attack that killed Falcone, his wife and three police officers on May 23, 1992. In memory of Falcone, Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Prime Minister Mario Monti attended a ceremony in Palermo along with some ministers. A boat carrying thousands of students arrived at Palermo with a banner stating, "We came so we don't forget." In Naples, the mayor and hundreds of young people commemorated the anniversary near the tree that was planted in Piazza Municipio and dedicated to Falcone in 1994. Prosecutors have been investigating for years a possible “state plot” to eliminate Falcone and his colleague Paolo Borsellino, who was assassinated two months later by a car bomb. In the case of Falcone, Giovanni Brusca activated the detonator from a hillside on orders from the then-head of the Mafia, Totò Riina. Both men are now serving out life sentences.

Vatican Museums’ ‘Night Openings’ returns for 2012

Financial police shut down counterfeit shoe factory The Italian financial police discovered 10 people who were producing knockoffs of a well-known brand of shoes in Secondigliano, a neighborhood of Naples. Officers raided the entire building, blocking all the escape routes.

ORMAN

Continued from Page 1

After her presentation, Orman engaged in an interactive and frequently entertaining question-and-answer session with members of the audience, many of whom were eager to have their personal financial inquiries addressed by the famous adviser. “Originally, my wife and I were planning on buying a house, but after speaking with Suze and hearing her advice on the current housing market, I think I’m going to do a bit more research on the subject before making a decision,” said Personnel Specialist Seaman Robert Lee. “I think when financial advisors like Suze Orman visit the community, it’s beneficial to everyone because a lot of people may not have the awareness or interest in their financial planning. Hearing expert advice from people like her can compensate for that.” Following the speaking portion of her visit, Orman took time to sign copies of her latest bestselling book, “The Money Class: Learn to Create Your New American Dream,” and chatted one-on-one with audience members. “It’s been wonderful interacting with the service members in Italy, and I hope my advice will help them make wise financial decisions,” said Orman. “There will come a day when we will need our money to take care of us, and that can only happen if we take care of our money today.” For more information on Suze Orman, visit her website at www.suzeorman.com.

Town hall recap From Naval Support Activity Naples Public Affairs

apt. Scott Gray, commanding officer of Naval Support Activity Naples, held a town hall meeting May 15 at the Support Site theater. After discussing efforts to improve the trash collection on base, confirming the continuation of Carney Park and its pool and covering a few other topics, Capt. Gray took questions from the audience. Here’s a sumup of the questions and responses. Q: Will Parco Le Ginestre be going away? A: There are no plans to get rid of Parco Le Ginestre in the foreseeable future. The lease on Parco Eva, however, will not be renewed after it expires in March 2013. We have spoken with the residents there, and many of them are in favor of working out an arrangement with the landlords that will transfer their government-controlled leases to leases similar to the ones used by every other resident in economy housing. This option will allow them to stay in their homes even as the Parco transitions from government-controlled housing to economy housing. There are still many details to work out, but I hope that an arrangement can be reached. If and when that occurs, I expect that Parco Eva will remain popular with our community. Q: You mentioned the At Hoc Computer Desktop Notification System as a major tool for emergency communication. How do we sign up for that? A: If you or your sponsor has a One-Net workstation, there is a purple globe on the bottom right hand corner of the screen among the icons. Double-click on that globe and it should give you the option not only to put in your own e-mail, but your family members’ email addresses and cell phone numbers as well. We can send emails, text messages, and even voice calls to devices entered into the system. We’ve posted the full instructions on our emergency management page, including workaround instructions if the purple globe icon isn’t working for you, or if you’re on a different network. Visit www.cnic.navy.mil/Naples/ OperationsAndManage ment/ EmergencyManagement for more information. Q: Has any thought been given to extending the food court hours on busy movie days until maybe a half hour after the movie gets out? A. While Bambusa and Strikers are open after the movies let out,

C

we have in the past been willing to give extended or modified hours a try at many of our service providers. The extended hours at the Support Site Navy Exchange Minimart were a huge success, but the altered hours at the Capodichino Navy Exchange were not. So we are willing to look at that and may come up with something in the near future. Q: Several home-based businesses have been shut down recently. Why? Is there a way that people can run a business from their homes on base? A. Yes, there is a way for people to have a home-based business. However, prior to engaging in any business activity, approval must first be obtained by filing a request through the Staff Judge Advocate's office using the template provided in NSA INST 1740.4. The businesses that were recently shut down had not received the necessary approval and were provided copies of the request form. Every request is carefully considered to ensure compliance with both local and international law as well as with Department of Defense instructions. Unfortunately, not every business request may be approved because there are, for example, instructions prohibiting direct competition with the Navy Exchange or prohibiting shipping goods through the Military Postal Service for resale. It can be somewhat complicated to get a business started, so we recommend that those who are interested please contact the Staff Judge Advocate at 081-568-5360 for additional information. Q: I’ve noticed that the lights at the skate park stay on all night long. Couldn’t we put those on a timer to save money? A. The timer on the skate park lights was, in fact, broken, and reported to Public Works on May 16. It has been repaired. Thank you to the proactive community member for bringing this to our attention and for his commitment to conserving energy. Q: Movie ticket lines are very long, sometimes causing people to give up on the movie or miss the beginning. Is there any way to separate the concession line and the ticket line, or otherwise improve the efficiency at the ticket counter? A. We are aware that it isn’t as efficient as it could be. restraints and the cost of doing business, we are unable to provide additional staffing at the counter at this time. An upcoming theater renovation project will revamp the entire layout of the concession stand to improve the efficiency and traffic flow. Any time large crowds are anticipated (premier showings and blockbuster movies), lines are to be expected and patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance or arrive early. Q: You talked about a few projects to restore Carney Park. Can the youth get involved in some of those projects? A. I’ve spoken with the MWR director and we are planning a day where kids and community members who desire can come out and help. We’ll push information about that once the plans are finalized. Q: Can you put a speed trap or something to catch people driving fast in front of the schools? A. Security has increased traffic control enforcement on the Support Site, especially with the upcoming summer months and the increased number of children and pedestrians in the residential areas. The current speed cart locations were designed to account for the heaviest concentration of traffic — mainly where vehicles enter and leave the installation. Security will continue to maintain a high presence in and around the school zone. We all play a critical effort in maintaining safe traffic speeds both on base and out in town. Q: The soccer fields on the Support Site get torn up a lot, and it’s an ongoing battle to maintain a grass field. Has any thought been given to installing turf there? A. Mirabella is in the middle of a routine reseeding and maintenance project. The South Park will be completed in mid-June and the North Park will follow. There are no plans to change the grass fields to turf anytime soon.

NAVEUR-NAVAF hosts flag officer course By Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet Public Affairs

ommander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa hosted the Combined Force Maritime Component Commander (CFMCC) Flag Officer course at Naval Support Activity Naples May 14 to 18. During the weeklong course, which was conducted by the U.S. Naval War College, 23 executivelevel attendees from the maritime countries of Europe and Africa participated in seminars and discussions focused on building common understanding of maritime issues and helping senior leaders work together more effectively. The importance of being able to rapidly and effectively combine multinational naval forces and staffs was demonstrated in the Mediterranean during the 2011 NATO Operation Unified Protector, which included ships, submarines, and aircraft from Jordan, Morocco, NATO, Qatar, Sweden, and the United Arab Emirates. Throughout the course, guest speakers delivered briefs and facilitated candid discussions about maritime security operations, counterpiracy, and ways to combat illicit trafficking. The

talks also provided a forum for open discussion of issues and a chance to gain a better understanding of the diverse perspectives involved in a combined force. Many students from previous CFMCC courses returned this year as presenters and facilitators, including retired Colombian Adm. Guillermo Barrera; retired German Vice Adm. Lutz Felt; and Danish Commodore Aage Buur Jensen, Commander, Danish Task Group, Royal Danish Navy. Commodore Jensen, who attended previous CFMCC courses in both Naples and Bahrain, brings relevant experience as recent Commander, Combined Task Force 151, a multinational force established in 2009 to conduct counterpiracy operations. “There are several benefits to the course, but the personal relationships gained are the most important,” said Jensen. “Personal relationships make it possible to overcome bureaucracies. Time spent together in class makes it easier for a commander to call ahead and negotiate what is possible. This saves valuable time when it matters most by enabling commanders to better focus their staffs in planning and directing operations.” With new ideas and the strengthened partnerships of

regional leaders, commanders throughout Europe and Africa left the course with the assurance that cooperation and collaboration are critical to the continued success of maintaining safety and security throughout the region. The first CFMCC Course, which focused on U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, was held in September 2006 in Newport, R.I. Since then, CFMCC has expanded to include three courses held periodically in the European, Middle East and Pacific regions. U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa hosted CFMCC courses in 2008 and 2010.

FFSC Tip of the Week: Mindfulness From the Fleet and Family Support Center

Sometimes we realize we are stressed by the way we react over daily hassles or minor issues. Mindfulness is a way of regaining control over ourselves through awareness. Mindfulness techniques are effective not only in changing negative thoughts and behaviors — they work on many levels, improving physical health, correcting blood pressure, developing self-acceptance and a better body-mind connection. It is an incredible way to balance out your life, plus it is free to use and it has no side effects. To learn about mindfulness techniques and to sign up for a stress management class, call Louise Cappiello at 081811-6533.

The traditional Open Day of the Naples NATO Yacht Club (NNYC) marked the beginning of the sailing season and was attended by a crowd of supporters, who strived to replace with their enthusiasm the almost-missing wind. At the end of four races, the Italian team scored the best cumulative results, followed by France, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Croatia and the United States. The event included an Optimist regatta for children and was witnessed by Adm. Bruce W. Clingan, commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples and commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa. Adm. Clingan presented the winners with their trophies. The Naples NATO Yacht Club is the only sailing facility available to the NATO community in Naples. Its principal aim is to encourage the sport of sailing through various recreational initiatives. For this purpose, the club maintains a flotilla of small boats and sailboats and organizes training activities and regattas. The club also participates in national and international Admiral Bruce W. Kit for kids Information compiled by EN2 Miguel Huerta NSA Naples Emergency Management Office Disaster Preparedness Specialist

ou may have to leave your house during a disaster and may sleep somewhere else for a while. It is smart to put together your own Kid’s Activity Survival Kit so you will have things to do and share with other kids. These can all be stored in a backpack or duffel bag. Just make sure you can carry it easily.

Y

Some suggested items for the Kids Activity Survival Kit: • A factual book about earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, rain, storms, floods and fires; • A few favorite general books that encourage comfort; • Non-toxic marking pens, crayons, pencils, and plenty of paper; • Scissors and glue; • Interactive toys such as LEGOS; • Two favorite small toys (at least one doll and one action figure); • One to two board games or table puzzles; • Favorite stuffed animal or puppet; • Small play vehicles such as an ambulance, fire truck, helicopter, dump truck, police car, or tractor; • Small people figures to use with the trucks and emergency vehicles; • Favorite blanket and/or pillow; • Picture of the family, including pets; • A keepsake box with a few treasures or little things your child feels are special. Note to parents: During evacuation, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation director will provide certified childcare personnel at each embarkation point to assist parents with supervision of their children. Parents need to make sure to have at least three phone numbers of the nearest next of kin in the United States. This information should be given and kept on file with the school and the Child Development Center. Parents should train their children to know the full names of their parents and the rest of the family members in the United States. The Wildcats traveled to Vicenza to easily overtake the competition at the last two meets of the season. Several more Naples players also qualified for next week’s European championships, and some recorded new and improved times. Sophomore Chris Mack once again took first place in the 100-meter run, followed by sophomore Austin Bain (who also took third in the 200-meter). Junior Tyler Williams took fourth in the 400-meter race. Senior John Fain took first and senior Adam Hammer came in third in the 800-meter event. The Wildcats took second, third and fourth in the 1,600-meter run due to the performances of sophomore Luca Melendez, freshman Cullen Harper and sophomore John Molton. Melendez, Molton and Harper also ran the 3,200-meter, taking first, second and third in that event. Senior Samuel LeVault took second but still qualified in the 110-meter high hurdles, while freshman Nick Snider took third place. LeVault took first in the 300meter intermediate hurdles, and Snider and sophomore Samuel Weitzman brought home third and fourth. Senior Ben DeRivera and freshman AJ Fisher were third- and fourth-place finishers in the high jump. LeVault was third in the triple jump. DeRivera maintained his first-place position in the shot put and discus, while freshman Christopher Morris took second in shot put and senior JP Morilla was the fourth-place finisher in discus. The 4x800-meter relay team (Fain, freshman Michael Curtin, Harper and Melendez) took first. Though the 4x100-meter relay team members (Williams, Fisher, Mack and Bain) claimed second place in a close race, they improved their qualifying time. The 4x400-meter

relay team, composed of sophomore Samuel Thomas, DeRivera, Curtin and Fisher, took third. On the girls’ side, sophomore Ashley Forte improved her already solid qualifying time and took first in the 400-meter event. She also took first in the 200-meter dash. Junior Destiny Mora qualified in the 800-meter run and took first in that event. Sophomore Amber Sheline brought home third in the 800-meter. Junior Grace Gardner took second in the 1,600-meter and senior Jane Saunders was the first place finisher in the 3,200-meter event. Teammate senior Jordan Kim took third in the 3,200-meter. The Lady Wildcats were a force to be reckoned with in the field events. Freshman Laneisha Jeans took first in the 100-meter intermediate hurdles, with senior Kierra Mims close behind her in second. Sophomore Carrie Welch took second in the 300-meter low hurdles. Jeans also took first in the long jump and qualified in that event. Junior Maria Beard took first place in the triple jump. Beard was second in shot put and Mims was fourth in the same event. Beard and Mims took second and third place in discus, respectively. Jeans, Beard, Mims and Forte took first in the 4x100meter relay, with a solid qualifying time. The 4x400meter relay team (More, Sheline, senior Kyleigh Doyle and freshman Madeleine Chaston) took third. The 4x800-meter relay team of Jordan, Saunders, freshman Alexis Cutler and Doyle took first place. Jeans, Gardner, Chaston and Forte were also solid first-place finishers with a solid qualifying time. The Naples Wildcats have strong male and female teams to take to the European championship tournament this week, and they plan to bring home a Division II Championship. Results will be available in next week’s Panorama.

Obtaining your Sojourner Permit Italian law requires all foreign personnel working or living within Italy, other than an active-duty member under military orders, to obtain a Sojourner Permit within eight days of arrival in Italy. This is different from a visa, which is merely an approval for entry into the country. All applicants over 14 years of age must apply in person, as each person's signature is required at the time of application. NATIONALS OF ANY STATE OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY COMING TO ITALY DO NOT REQUIRE ANY VISA OR SOJOURNER PERMIT. As part of the Area Orientation process, the U.S. Region Legal Service Office (RLSO EURAFSWA) assists in the preparation and oversees the acquisition of the Sojourner Permit for all personnel attached to U.S. Navy commands in the Naples area. ohn Fain, a senior, has been selected as the Boys’ Track and Field Athlete of the Month. John continues to be a terrific athlete to coach and have as a team captain due to his great attitude and leadership. He helped the Naples High School boys’ sprint medley relay team qualify for the European championships due to his performance at the Vicenza meet in late April. His work ethic and determination helped him later qualify for the European championships in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter events.

J

win brothers Austin and Hunter Christian, both freshmen, have been chosen as the Boys’ Soccer Athletes of the Month. Both have showed tenacity in the face of great opposition. Both have played with a maturity that belies their young ages. Neither has feared to play against any competitor in our league. In every game, they show their level of competiveness and readiness to step on the field and give it all they have. Austin has sustained multiple injuries this year as goalie: a hard blow to the jaw and broken nose. Hunter has played many different positions because of missing players, stepping up to cover their positions with ease and skill. Both of them deserve this honor for this month.

T

sabella Lucy, a sophomore, has been chosen as the Girls’ Soccer Athlete of the Month. Isabella is a coach’s and a soccer team’s dream. She has speed, agility, talent, poise and a great attitude. Since she was a freshman, Isabella has averaged almost 2 goals per game, and sometimes more. Her knowledge of the sport and field placement is clear and her passion for the game is obvious. Isabella plays soccer year round and it shows. She is a highly talented soccer player.

I

A new General Nutrition Center (GNC) store opened at Naval Support Activity Naples May 19.

“All of the enhancements we have made to the NEX mall area have been very successful, and I see the new GNC store continuing that trend,” said Goodman. “The store holds approximately $365,000 of inventory at one time. During our two-week soft opening, we’ve been averaging $2,000 a day, which is tremendous. If you do the math, that equates to about $1.1 million in sales each year.” Goodman said he could see the GNC becoming a self-sustaining business, as it will provide local nationals with steady employment and providing community members with an evolving line of nutritional supplements, while offering them savings they normally wouldn’t get from ordering their products online.

The official ribbon-cutting for the grand opening of a new General Nutrition Center (GNC) store took place May 19 at the Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples Support Site. Capt. Scott Gray, NSA Naples commanding officer, and Tom Goodman, general manager of the Naples Navy Exchange (NEX), conducted the ceremony. The opening event was part of Customer Appreciation Weekend events sponsored by the NEX and NSA Naples Morale, Welfare and Recreation. GNC, which focuses on the retail sale of health and nutrition-related products, is a welcome resource that will help NSA Naples community members get the most out of sports nutrition without having to resort to online ordering, Goodman said. “I can already see the opening of the GNC here at NSA being the dominant event of our community’s spring season,” said Goodman. “We’ve had terrific feedback from customers and community members during our ‘soft opening’ of the store in the past two weeks, and it’s rewarding to be able to meet the demands of the community by providing them a retail outlet for their sports nutrition needs.” Some customers said that they were already looking forward to visiting the GNC store on a regular basis. “I’m really happy,” said NSA Naples community member Steve Williams, who attended the store’s grand opening and received a T-shirt. “It’s awesome to have this service here.” The store’s inclusion in the NEX mall is part of an ongoing reshuffling process that has already combined the base’s dry cleaning and tailoring facilities into one store, as well as relocated the A customer browses products at the new General frame shop to a bigger retail space to accommo- Nutrition Center (GNC) store at the Naval Support Activity Naples Support Site. date growing customer demand.
