Notes from the Executive Director In 1952, the Northbrook community voted to start a library. It almost didn’t happen and won by only six votes. The library is now celebrating 70 years, proving every vote really does count. Since the library was founded, we have seen many inventions to improve our lives from the polio vaccine to the microwave oven. Man has walked on the moon, and we now carry the internet on little devices in our pockets. But one of my favorite inventions of the past 70 years is Post-it® Notes, which were discovered after a failed attempt at making a stronger adhesive. So much has changed, but one thing will always remain the same: the library’s commitment to serving our community and providing you with access to information to keep you informed about the changing world around us. To learn more about the library’s history, turn to page 10. I look forward to seeing what comes next. Kate Hall Executive Director

Five little froggies sat on a shore. Crouch like a frog One went for a swim, then there were four. Pretend to leap and swim off Four little froggies looked out to the sea. Crouch like a frog and put your hand at your brow, looking out to sea One went swimming and then there were three. Pretend to leap and swim off Three little froggies said, “What can we do?” One jumped in the water, then there were two. Pretend to leap and swim off Two little froggies sat in the sun. Crouch like a frog One swam off, and then there was one. Pretend to leap and swim off One little froggie said, “This is no fun!” They dived in the water, and then there were none! Page 9
