2020/2021 NODA BOARD Executive Board President Niki Sackman 440-454-4709 President@nodarider.org Vice President Rachel Aderhold 330-357-9981 VP@nodarider.org

Dear NODA Members, Greetings, It seems hard to believe that it is August already. After three plus months of home isolation I am very happy to be able to get out and about. It certainly has been an odd time and I do miss the old normal but have been adapting to our new way of life. I hope that all of you are doing well and are able to enjoy your summer.

Arthur

Niki Sackman & Raina

I’m happy to say that the schooling shows are starting up again. Our first show back will be held at Rocky River Stables on August 9th. The September venue and date has been changed to Summit County Fairgrounds (1100 North Ave. Tallmadge, OH 44278) on Sunday, September 20th and it will be a one ring show. I would like to thank Sara Justice for finding the venue and coordinating the show. It will be nice to see familiar faces again – well, at least part of your face.

Treasurer Dee Liebenthal 216-534-1911 Treasurer@nodarider.org

As a reminder, when competing at any NODA schoolings shows, multiple waivers are required, in addition to the standard waiver on the entry form. You will be contacted with information regarding waivers once you enter.

Secretary Patti Valencic 216-956-0985 Secretary@nodarider.org

Tickets for the NODA raffle to support shows and programs are still available for purchase until August 24th. The drawing is August 31st for cash prizes: $1,000 first prize, $350 second prize and $150 third prize. My tickets have been purchased and I would love to win one of those prizes! Good luck to all that enter.

By the time you read this, NODA held our first Zoom Q&A meeting on July 16th with judge Danielle Menteer (L*) on developing an effective seat. We are looking forward to offering other Zoom Q&A meetings so watch for upcoming announcements in the newsletter, on the website and on Facebook. The virtual Ride-a-Test clinic was well received with numerous participants. We received positive feedback on the program and thank both of our judges Danielle Menteer (L*) and Barb Soukup (L*) for their time and comments on the rides. Hopefully next year it can be an in person event. Congratulations to Taya Workum-Byers who won Trivia Quiz #2 which was written by Rachel Aderhold and Kathy Kirchner who won Trivia Quiz #3 which was written by Fran Cverna. The lucky winners received $10 Big Dee’s gift cards. A trivia contest written by Mary Lou Gallagher for a free membership will run from August 3 - 14, Look for it on Facebook. You can submit a 10 question quiz and answers to our Education Chair Beth Scalabrino to earn NODA Bucks. Wishing all of you the best, Niki

CONGRATULATIONS! Taya Workum-Byers won Trivia Quiz #2 written by Rachel Aderhold Kathy Kirchner won Trivia Quiz #3 written by Fran Cverna

How To Play! NEXT QUIZ on NODA’s Facebook Page August 3 or www.nodarider.org Every Trivia Quiz lasts ten days. Each person may take the quiz only once since the answers are revealed after you submit. A link for the google form trivia quiz will be posted on Facebook and the website (No google account is necessary to play). Each quiz has a different theme and will consist of 10 multiple choice questions. The quizzes will be written by NODA board members and other NODA members who volunteer their expertise. Google forms automatically grades the questions so you will know your score as soon as you are done taking the quiz and the results show up in the trivia master’s files (no need to send your score in). Everyone who scores a 100% on that particular quiz will have her/his name put into a computer generated name picker. The NODA member whose name is chosen will receive a prize. Prizes may include but are not limited to ribbons, gift cards to Big Dee’s or even a NODA membership. Prize winners will be announced on the website and Facebook after the quiz is closed.

It's so easy to win, so why not Play?! Want to submit a quiz? Email your quiz's questions and answers to education@nodarider.org NODA News 2020, Page 4

From the Archives - NODA’s First Cover Girls With Historian Fran Cverna Until October, 2008, the NODA Newsletter never had a full page photograph on the cover. The first two cover photos were both taken by Dee Liebenthal. I believe Dee has credit for the most newsletter covers, although Sabine Walker is getting close. The first two cover girl riders with their boy horses were featured in October & November of 2008.

Schooling Show News By Sally Burton, Schooling Show Manager

NODA Schooling Shows COVID-19 Protocols Due to the constant changing status of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are hesitant to write safety protocols far in advance of a show. But rest assured that we will have very strict safety protocols that adhere to the regulations by the State, the county, and the venue in which the show will be held. Our Rocky River show protocols were written with Rocky River Stables (Valley Riding, Inc.), and following Cuyahoga County mandates. Our next show is in Summit County on September 20, and it will be a one-ring show. We will be working with the Summit County Fairgrounds and following Summit County mandates to create the safety protocols for that show depending on what is happening in September. Before the show, participants will receive via email, the necessary forms/releases that need to be returned. In addition, we send participants our safety protocols for that show. Our final two shows of the season will be regular schooling shows on October 3 and 4 at Chagrin Valley Farms. Again, safety protocols and show requirements will depend on what is happening at that time in Geauga County and with Chagrin Valley Farms specifications. Participants will receive information via email with forms/releases and protocols for this show as well. Please know we are doing our best to offer safe educational show opportunities to our members. We are very thankful for our volunteers without whom we could not offer shows. Thank you for your support in this difficult time. NODA News 2020, Page 11
