ne Monday morning, when two young girls, Arisha and Hira sat down in their English class, the smell of smoke and perfume spread through the classroom. Hira noticed the smell was coming from her friend; her heart sank. The two girls had been best friends for nine years. It was difficult to accept that Arisha had been spending time with the “wrong crowd”. To Hira, this only meant going down a path that would end things badly.

Hira's mom picked both girls up from school. Hira smiled at her mother as she greeted her. Her mother turned to Arisha. “How was your day Arisha?” Arisha smiled politely. “It was fine, thank you.” The car ride was quiet, with the distinct smell of smoke and perfume drifting through; everyone pretended it didn’t exist.

together, when one of Arisha`s friends called out to her. “Hey Ari! Are you going to Jake's party on Friday?” Arisha laughed. “No invite!” Her friend shrugged and said, “I invite you! I'll see you there!” Once Arisha`s friend walked away, Hira wrinkled her nose. “Ari?” Arisha shrugged. “It's easier to say instead of ‘Arisha’.” Hira didn't want to ask her next question, but she had to know. “Are you going to that party on Friday?” Arisha nodded. “Yeah, all my friends will be there.
