This is MY Library A personal tour in print

The library is a fun and welcoming place for all children. This social story is written to help children prepare for and feel comfortable visiting the Lansdale Public Library. Families can read it online or print it out to read together. Print copies are available at the Circulation Desk. Questions, concerns and comments can be sent to director@lansdalelibrary.org. April 2018

We come to the library to read, play, learn, and have fun.

These are the days and times I can visit my library. Monday through Friday 10 am to 9 pm and Saturday 10 am to 3 pm. Fridays in July and August 10 am to 6 pm.

When I get to the library, I like to go to the Children’s Area.

The Children’s Area has books, movies, magazines and audio books that I can borrow and take home!

There are tables and chairs and window seats in my library.

I can play quietly with puzzles, toys, blocks and games while I am at the library. There are coloring pages and crayons too. I always clean up when I am finished playing.

I can use these computers at my library!

I can use the computers to look for books, play games and use ABCmouse.com. I can bring my own headphones or borrow headphones from the Circulation Desk.

I can go to story times and other special programs at the library.

At story time I listen to books, sing songs, play with scarves and shaker eggs, and do a craft with other friends.

This is my library card.

I will need my library card to check out materials from the library. I can get my own library card when I am 5 years old.

This is the Circulation Desk at the library.

If I have a question, I can ask one of the people working at the desk. They are very helpful. When I am ready, I can bring my books to the desk for check out so I can take them home. This is also where I return my books when I am finished with them.

Many people use the library.

There will be other people reading or studying in the library so I will use my quiet voice. I will also try to keep a calm body and use my walking feet when I am at the library. I must always stay with my grown-up.

There are bathrooms at the library.

I must get a key for the bathroom at the Circulation Desk. When I flush the toilet it is loud. When I am finished, I wash my hands, and I take the key back to the Circulation Desk. There is a water fountain near the bathroom I can use If I am thirsty.

There is a fish tank at the library.

I can watch the fish in the fish tank. I do not hit their window. I can say goodbye to the fish until I come back to the library again.

I love visiting the library!

When it’s time to leave, I say good-bye to the library, but I know I can come back another day.
