Barbados the caribbean’s most revisited destination... a charismatic island with a unique charm and warmth: with mile after mile of powdery, white sand beaches; a delightful year-round climate of sunshine and sea breezes; acres of verdant, rolling sugar cane fields; exotic botanical gardens; a rich and fascinating history; and some of the friendliest people in the world.

Courtesy Cool Runnings Catamarans

For an island measuring a mere 14 x 21 miles, Barbados offers visitors a tremendous variety of activities and days can be spent as busy, or as leisurely, as you choose. There is a refreshing mix that goes beyond the usual visitor criteria of ‘sun, sea and sand’ – scratch the

surface and discover a proud heritage and vibrant culture; a fascinating natural environment; and, above all, the special flair of the Bajan people, who are considered the warmest and friendliest in the Caribbean. No wonder Barbados is the Caribbean’s most revisited destination.

Sun, sea & sand Barbados is naturally blessed with a magnificent variety of sun-drenched, palm-fringed beaches; calm, crystal clear, turquoise water; and a year-round climate that’s as close to perfection as you can get.

Add to this the idyllic climate, with over 3000 hours of sunshine a year, the constant north-east Trade Winds keeping daytime temperatures between 80–85 degrees fahrenheit (27–29 degrees celsius), and just enough rainfall to keep things green, and you have all the ingredients that make this magical isle the perfect holiday destination!

Courtesy Andrew Hulsmeier

Surrounded by over 70 miles of glorious, powdery, white sand beaches – from secluded west coast coves lapped by the tranquil waters of the warm Caribbean Sea to the pounding surf of the island’s rugged Atlantic coastline, Barbados boasts some of the finest beaches in the southern Caribbean!

Planning the wedding of your dreams, or the perfectly romantic honeymoon, can be as easy as saying ‘I do’. Barbados has a long tradition of hosting newlyweds and the island can provide all the necessary ingredients to ensure the intimate sojourn you’ll always remember with great pleasure. There is no shortage of wedding coordinators on the island, with select hotels providing an on-staff wedding

planner or service to assist with the details. Whether it’s a traditional ceremony in an old country church; a serene beach at sunset; or an intimate gathering on the deck of a yacht under a star glittered sky... choices of romantic settings abound. Recent legislation has eliminated the advance notice requirements to marry on the island, allowing couples to marry as soon as a license is obtained.

Beyond the lure of turquoise seas and sun-kissed beaches lies an island packed full of shopping opportunities! Exotic pieces of local art and craft can be found in studios and galleries across the island; trendy boutiques carry world renowned designer labels; and ultra-modern department stores offer the finest in tax free shopping - it is no wonder that Barbados is one of the best shopping destinations in the southern Caribbean today.

Action island

explore the countryside; discover the fascinating world beneath the sea in a real submarine; enjoy a day of exhilarating sailing aboard a luxury catamaran or a fun-filled, party cruise on a pirate ship, zip over the tree tops, drive through gullies, tour the Concorde...Barbados is fun!

Karen Cheney

Enjoy the thrill of ‘Big Game Fishing’; go horseback riding through the beautiful countryside; see the island by helicopter; or, for a different perspective, try zip-lining over the trees. You can even spend a day exploring one of our nearby island neighbours, including the idyllic Grenadines, an enchanting chain of unspoiled islands and deserted cays, just a short hop away! Whether it’s serenity or excitement you seek, Barbados offers an exceptional range of holiday activities to fill your days. Sportsmen, sailors and landlubbers alike will all find a bounty of choices from which to plan your day - spend a glorious day aboard a luxury catamaran, swimming with the turtles in the morning, snorkelling and beachcombing in the afternoon. Go exploring off-the-beaten-track with Island Safari Tours; visit the Flower Forest, or an old plantation house; mingle with the monkeys at the Barbados Wildlife Reserve; explore the underground wonders of Harrison’s Cave; go scuba diving, windsurfing or kitesurfing; or for an underwater experience without getting wet, visit Ocean Park, a unique marine aquarium park featuring 26 exhibits.

History & heritage in Barbados many diverse components blend harmoniously to weave the richly textured fabric of everyday life on the island today. Stability and harmony reign among a diverse “melting pot” population of varied races, religions and creeds. evident in the island’s music, dance, food and other forms of expression.Bridgetown, which celebrated its 375th anniversary in 2003, is home to the third oldest Parliament in the Commonwealth; a statue of Lord Nelson which pre-dates its counterpart in London’s Trafalgar Square by some 30 years; and the 350-yearold Jewish Synagogue, the oldest to be found anywhere in the entire Western hemisphere. Interestingly, Barbados is the only place that George Washington ever visited outside of the United States.

Andrew Hulsmeier

Originally inhabited by Amerindians, before being settled by the English in 1627, Barbados is the only Caribbean island which remained constantly under British rule until 1966 when she gained independence. It is no wonder the island is affectionately known as “Little England”. Over the course of the last four centuries, historical events and a potent mix of African, British and other influences have bequeathed a rich and diverse cultural heritage. Barbados owes much of its appealing character to the huge African influence which is clearly

Mixing business with pleasure Barbados has become known to business people from around the world as the conference capital of the Eastern Caribbean. airlift, a wide range of superb accommodation, world class restaurants, golf courses and other leisure facilities, function and event planning is offered by a number of capable Barbadian companies. They can assist in arranging any kind of special event, all supported by the high level of technology available within the island. Also, and very significantly, as Barbados is eligible to host conventions under the provisions of the Convention Tourism Tax Credit, American companies can hold meetings on the island and take applicable expenditures as tax write-offs, just as though the event were held in the USA. So, all in all, Barbados can truly be considered an ideal location to mix business with pleasure. Choose Barbados for your next meeting and make your employees and colleagues very happy. You never know, you might like it so much that you decide to stay.

Barbados has enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship with the international business world for well over 300 years and today, with a top rating on the United Nations Human Development Index, the island enjoys a fine reputation for due diligence, good governance and strict adherence to corporate law. With the existence of attractive Tax Treaty Agreements between Barbados and a growing number of countries, along with a wide range of other incentives, many international companies have chosen to do business in or with Barbados. As a result of this development, Barbados now has a new generation of professionals and service providers who are accustomed to performing their duties to world standards on a daily basis. This is good news for any company that chooses to hold a conference or incentive vacation in Barbados. In addition to the other obvious benefits of excellent

In 1922, the Red Book of the West Indies reported “The Crane Hotel occupies a high cliff on the Southeast of the Island swept by fresh, invigorating breezes.
