valid signatures are needed to place Genetically Modified Organism(GMO) labeling on Colorado’s ballot this fall. Right To Know (RTK) Colorado is now training “petition circulators” to legally collect signatures around the state. According to RTK Colorado founder Tryna Cooper, US Representative Mike Pompeo (R-Kansas) and the Grocery Manufacturers Association of America are actively trying to circumvent states rights to demand labeling by supporting H.R. 4432. Officially titled the “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act,” it is nicknamed “Denying Americans Right

to Know (DARK) Act” by pro-GMO labeling groups. This bill would supersede states rights to enact their own laws and instead allow manufacturers to voluntarily label GMO’s… or not. The Center for Food Safety posts various surveys (New York Times, Reuters, Consumer Reports, etc) on their website, indicating that over 90% of Americans want GMOs labeled. Yet, big corporate spending has managed to thwart the majority thus far. More than 60 countries currently require labeling including China, Russia and Saudia Arabia. Initiative proponents Larry Cooper and Cheryl Gray say, “This will be a powerful campaign and no doubt, an exhilarating one! We are eager and excited to work with all of you because healthy food is worth it. This is a non-partisan effort and it will take everyone’s help to make GMO labeling a reality in Colorado!” To learn more and get involved, contact Tryna@ journeysforconsciousliving.com or RightToKnowColorado.org. natural awakenings
