Queensland Architecture Award Winner

Live Environment

Brisbane, Queensland

Refurbishment and fit-out of the library originally built in the late 1970’s. It sees the merging of the existing 2-storey ‘I’ Block with ‘R’ Block to create one building. The project runs across 6-levels and 7865m2 and includes work to training and printing rooms, lounges, group study areas and individual soundproof study areas. The building has been re-designed to comply with the most up to date BCA regulations to create the most energy saving solution possible. It remained operational at all times. The air-conditioning design has been improved by providing a greater number of individually controlled perimeter zones to reduce energy usage and lower operational costs. This is further achieved by implementing a dedicated control switch (time clock controlled) to activate air conditioning in various individual rooms.
