THE LAST LEAF Dear Readers, Google has agreed to partner with Railways to digitise its heritage assets and help create a digital repository for universal online access free of cost, said a senior Railway Ministryofficial. Indian Railway has a huge list of heritage assets including bridges, steam locos, buildings, artifacts and museums which can be showcased for global audience. An agreement in this regard will be signed soon between National Rail Museum and Google Cultural Institute (GCI). GCI is a non-profit organisation that partners with cultural organisations to bring world’s cultural heritage online. GCI builds online tools and offers them to institutions for showcasing and sharing cultural assets. China CRRC Corporation Ltd., the country’s largest high-speed train maker, announced on Saturday that its first joint venture plant in India has started operations. State-owned Gail (India) Ltd said on Saturday it will tie up with California-based closely-held firm Bloom Energy Corp. on Monday to pursue natural gas-based fuel cell power generation, a new technology. Bloom Energy claims its technology converts fuel into electricity through a clean electro-chemical process, which can use a variety of fuels, including biogas. Unlike traditional power generation, Bloom uses virtually no water and produces no unhealthy emissions, it stated. India’s tech start-ups numbered around 4,200 up to 2015 - the disruptive innovation in technology and process is creating newer Indian start-ups. Aiming to incubate 50 early stage startups and create at least five global companies over a period of five years, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has set-up Electropreneur Park at University of Delhi, South Campus. This incubation centre has been set up through a consortium of the government, academia, and industry represented by Software Technology Parks of India, Delhi University and Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association. Two Indian companies – Cipla and Godrej Consumer Products – have been named in Fortune magazine’s list of top 50 companies that are addressing global social problems as a part of their core business strategy. The list is topped by GlaxoSmithkline, followed by IDE Technologies (Israel) and General Electric.
