Craig Kaufman is active in giving back to the community, especially through organizations focused on education and children. As part of his Jewish upbringing, Craig’s grandparents and parents ingrained in him the importance of education, noting that once knowledge was attained, it could not be taken away. His parents were the first generation in their immigrant families to be college educated. Craig realizes how fortunate he was to pursue educational opportunities that are beyond the reach of others, and as a result supports scholarship programs. In 1994, Craig founded the real estate investment company Kaufman Capital Partners and has 30+ years of experience in real estate investing, financing, development, and management. He earned a bachelor of science degree and master of science degree in civil engineering from WashU in 1986 and 1987. He is an Eliot Society Life Member and serves on the Alumni Board of Governors. Craig and his wife, Hope, reside in Atlanta with their teenage sons.

Marie Drevets is the Bill and Bonnie Patient Scholar. She is a senior from Wichita, Kansas, and is majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in computer s cience. Because of the generosity of WashU alumni and donors, she can engage more fully in the college e xperience, focusing on exams and volunteering with Engineers W ithout Borders. Marie hopes to use her degree to combat the causes and effects of climate change, specifically in clean e nergy and food security. Graduating without student loans allows her the versatility to choose and the freedom to pursue her passions.

Rhonda Germany Ballintyn and Nic Ballintyn are passionate about enabling the next generation of engineers, especially those that are first-generation students from underprivileged and underrepresented backgrounds. Growing up in disadvantaged households, Rhonda’s parents did not receive education past eighth grade and Nic grew up in an immigrant family where his parents had been prisoners of war during WWII. Rhonda earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan and Nic earned a bachelor of science degree and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Delaware. Their son, Ben, earned a bachelor of arts degree in neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania and their youngest son, Nate, is a proud 2019 McKelvey Engineering School graduate earning a bachelor of science degree in mechanical & aerospace engineering. For several years, Rhonda served as the chief strategy and chief marketing officer at Honeywell. She currently serves as a board director for two public and two private companies as well as on the Business Executives for National Security board. As a research engineer, Nic applied his skills as a materials scientist to medical applications including absorbable sutures and orthopedic implants. In retirement, their passion is working with young, promising STEM students through the Germany Ballintyn Education Foundation. As Eliot Society Life Members, they reside in Traverse City, Michigan and have supported 12 engineering scholarships and have endowed a 50-year-old underprivileged high school program.

An advocate of STEM education, Michele Liebman and her husband, Tim, are passionate about supporting scholarships. Although her sons and daughter-in-law had the privilege to choose their ideal university, not every student is as fortunate. Michele believes that university selection is a personal decision requiring not only a scholastic match, but a fit in culture and philosophy. She strives to ensure others have the same opportunity and choice to succeed in life. Michele earned a bachelor of science degree in technology and information management from WashU in 1986 and a master of business administration from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. As a principal at Edward Jones, Michele’s responsibilities included leadership roles within the information systems and banking operations divisions. She was honored with the Alumni Achievement Award in 2015 and the Dean’s Award in 2018 for her work with the Women & Engineering initiative for McKelvey School of Engineering. Michele and Tim reside in St. Louis and are Eliot Society Danforth Circle Dean’s Level Members.

As a Woodward Scholar in the Class of 1991, Andrew Schiermeier reveled in the opportunity to grow and learn as a young adult during his time at Washington University. He found this experience to be a tremendous privilege that would not have been possible without the support of his professors and university leaders. Andrew and his wife, Cecile, are pleased to have the opportunity to support the next generation of McKelvey Engineering Scholars on their path towards great accomplishments. Cecile is originally from Cressensac, France and is currently a lecturer at Wellesley College. She earned her doctor of philosophy in French literature from Boston University. Dr. Andrew Schiermeier has spent over two decades as an executive in the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors, with experience from managing operations for startups to directing the strategic expansion of global brands. Andrew earned his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from WashU in 1991. In addition to his WashU degree, Andrew holds a PhD in applied mathematics from Harvard University, a master of science in biomechanical engineering from Stanford University, and an International MBA from College des Ingenieurs in Paris, France. Andrew and Cecile reside in Boston and are Eliot Society Patron Members.

Dick Homans realizes that Washington University changed his life forever. He also knows that his attendance was made possible by a partial scholarship from a donor. As a result, he initially supported a scholarship to the McKelvey School of Engineering to share that same positive impact with students. Throughout the years, Dick and his wife, Jody, have enjoyed the opportunity to connect with their scholarship recipients and they recognize each student’s social and intellectual growth. From their perspective, it is a true gift knowing that their donations have achieved so much in the lives of scholarship students. Dick earned his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from WashU in 1968. He also earned an MBA and a PhD in business at the University of Houston. His analytical skills led him to serve as a professor of business at the University of Missouri–St. Louis and then as owner of a marketing research group. He and Jody reside in Frisco, Texas and are Eliot Society Danforth Circle Dean’s Level Members.
