Therapy Benefits Autistic Kids

I can’t stress enough the benefits that autistic children and their parents receive from the experience and learning of Qigong Massage Therapy. I perform the therapy on the children at my clinic, and then teach the techniques to their parents so they can help their children at home.

It’s exciting to see the transformation of children and adults with this ancient practice based on Chinese medicine. Some of the benefits reported by a five-month study conducted by the Qigong Sensory Training Institute include: • Sensory, sleep and digestive problems decreased. • Living skills such as toilet training, teeth brushing, increased. • Autistic behaviors decreased. • Social skills and language increased.

In addition, parents reported many firsts. Their children: • Slept through the night. • Said their first words. • Started eating new foods. • Pretend-fed her dolls. • Played with sister. • Cried and said “I am sad.” • Stopped head banging • Made easy transitions without a temper tantrum. • Decreased their experience of diarrhea. • Became calmer • Connected with others more.

Originating In China, the 3000-year-old practice of Qigong Massage has been used to improve health and vitality, and to treat medical issues. How does it work? Qigong Massage is performed along the channels (meridians) which are internal energy pathways. Acupuncture is based on this same system.

Chinese medicine postulates that autism is caused by a blockage in the sensory channels so that the child is not able to properly take in information about the world around them. Qigong Massage, as part of my therapy, helps to relieve these sensory blockages in autistic children to increase their awareness and learning skills.
