Saving Our Kids’ Brains
By Judy Levy When I’m not finding good homes for my ‘crystal babies,’ I’m a substitute teacher. You could think of me as a ‘subversive sub,’ with my ultimate goal being to ‘activate’ a few kids each week to claim and honor their unique purpose here and to encourage their independent thinking. I address them as the ‘special children’ who have come to save the planet; with their evolved brains, they will have ideas that were not accessible to our generation. We need them now! The kids open up to me. It has become evident that many sleep with their cell phones! They wake up and play (addictive) games during the night and then they can’t sleep again, so a vicious cycle forms. I explain that we need to be away from any screen for at least an hour before going to bed to aid in the production of melatonin, which puts us to sleep. Adults need this information, too. Our kids’ brains are crucial to our future! Do we want to raise zombies or foster geniuses to come forth? A child’s brain is not fully developed until they are 25! Every night a kid sleeps with his phone, some studies show that harmful EMF radiation can cause neurological damage, destroying brain cells. As parents, tutus, aunties, etc., we must help stop this! Please inform everyone with kids to have this conversation and to put the phones away at night -- a minimum of 12 feet away. And maybe hide them from the kids who might just wake up to go find their little ‘game buddy’ while parents are sleeping.
