Water in Australia. Did you know that Australia is the highest user of water per capita in the world, despite being the driest inhabited continent! This is food for thought as the rain is back and giving a bit of relief to our water tanks. KENILWORTH

WHAT ABOUT OUR FUTURE?

e all know that Kenilworth is a great place to live, to have a business and bring up our children but over the past few years we have seen the Kenilworth College lose its high school and business moving out of the area and no significant new businesses replacing them. There has also been a steady decline in our population since 2001 especially in school-age children and people in the working age groups. During the past few months, members of the Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce and Citizens have been brainstorming ideas which might arrest this trend in the short and long term. The following are some of the ideas that they have come up with : • Eco tourism / convention centre • Cottage Industry “Hall of Fame” concept • Rural craft items • Local artefacts • Furniture manufacturers • Computer software development • Storage sheds for private use • A small Industrial estate with shed for lease/purchase • Handicrafts • Musical instruments repair and manufacture

KENILWO NEEDS RTH YOU!

• Local food production for sale on the coast • Packaging Foods • Festival Town – one festival per every three months. What we need now is community input to discuss these and other ideas that we can use to promote business in Kenilworth, whether it is tourism, rural craft or forms of light industry. The Kenilworth and District Chamber of Commerce is organising a meeting for Thursday 25 February, 2010 at 7.00pm to be held at the Kenilworth Bowls Club. Tea, coffee and nibbles will be provided on the night. We need your comments so take the time to come along. If you have any questions, please contact the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Citizens, Mr Michael Pfeiffer on 5446 0247.

KENILWORTH 2009 KENILWORTH LIVING LEGENDS RECIPIENTS

Many residents would have made their acquaintance as a result of her rapid response to medical and trauma emergencies.

enilworth and District Chamber of Commerce and Citizens Assoc Inc for the past eleven years have acknowledged people in this community, whom are nominated by their peers, to be worthy of an award as a Kenilworth Living Treasure.

Even before the inception of First Response Linda provided first aid at the Kenilworth Chook Chase, helped with canteen duties and fundraising, including the poets breakfast, cooking for cake stalls, lunches for senior citizens at the Kenilworth Hall, catering for local motor cross events and the showground Christmas celebrations.

K

These are persons who are valued by the community, have been of service to the community and generally are just loved by the community.

Linda is also a member of Kenilworth State Emergency Services, helping with welfare, traffic control and a first aid officer.

Presentations for 2009 took place at the annual Christmas dinner and below is acknowledgements of three people deserving of such recognition.

The mural in Kenilworth Town Park was painted by Linda. During the early times of the Kenilworth Arts Council Linda helped with the setting up of the annual art show plinths and was partly responsible for the ongoing success of Kenilworth Celebrates! festivities.

LINDA ELLEN GREEN

She has always been willing to offer her time and talent helping in so many ways, showing care and compassion to those in need. A local comment “Linda just pops up everywhere helping wherever she can”. CECIL RODNEY PEARSON AND VALERIE MAY PEARSON (CEC AND VAL) Over many years a most active family unit in the Kenilworth district. Following in family tradition Cec worked for all community facilities throughout his youth, the Lower Kenilworth State School, the Lower Kenilworth Hall, St Matthews Church and the Kenilworth cemetery at Gheerulla.

hristmas is over but maybe you are still looking for that elusive present for a birthday, an anniversary or even Valentine’s Day. Come in and browse at Kenilworth Artspace Gallery and you will be pleasantly surprised at the variety of quality art works on display. Have you thought of giving a small original painting as a gift? There is a range of delightful works by local artists in landscape, animal life, still life and contemporary – all at reasonable prices. What about a small sculpture, a piece of ceramic work or leadlight? There are pieces suitable for indoors and outside.

KENILWORTH CHEESE, WINE AND FOOD FESTIVAL

Y

ES! it is on again, Easter Saturday 3 April, in the Kenilworth Town Park.

The Kenilworth Cheese, Wine and Food Festival includes a Farmer’s Market, cheese tasting, local wines and lots of food stalls featuring a great variety of take away delights.

Jewellery is always a favourite. Some pieces are funky and fun and others quite dressy. There are necklaces, pendants, bracelets, earrings and brooches to suit all tastes. And the blokes haven’t been forgotten! On show are several beautifully hand crafted timber boxes, trays, pens, hand painted saws and plough discs. Call into Kenilworth Artspace Gallery and we’ll help you with your gift decisions.

The very popular Cheese Rolling contest for the young and not so young will again be featured! The Cheester Egg Hunt for the children with prizes to be won! A gluttony of raffles and lots of fun for the family! Last years stall holders will be back with their food demonstrations and delicious foods. We had over two thousand people visiting the food festival last Easter, it was a huge success and we look forward to the same for this year again. There is plenty of space for more stalls and we are still in the process of allocating food/produce stall sites, so be in it! Site applications forms are available from Di Donovan on 5446 0003, hurry so you don’t miss out. Email enquiries@kenilworthfoodfest.org.au or visit our website www.kenilworthfoodfest.org.au

KENILWORTH Kenilworth Cops Report

A

s many of you are already aware, my family and I have moved into the police residence adjacent to the station. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Kenilworth Community for making my family feel very welcome. In my role I am performing single officer duties working a combination of day and afternoon shifts throughout the week and the weekends. The station’s set office hours are 8am to 4pm every Tuesday. If you contact the police station and are transferred to Sunshine Coast Communication Centre, please leave your name and contact details and I will return your call as soon as possible. As always, in the case of an emergency dial 000. The Kenilworth Police Station no longer has the facilities to complete Driver’s Licence tests or any Department of Transport transactions. If you have access to the internet, you are able to change your address, pay your registration or infringement notice and numerous other transactions via the Queensland Transport website (www.transport. qld.gov.au) which is simple and convenient. For those of you who I am yet to meet, I took up the position in May 2009 and I am happy to say I’m enjoying policing in the Kenilworth Division. Having previously performed duties primarily with the Police Dog Squads within Brisbane, Gold Coast and Maroochydore in my 20 years of service. It has been a pleasant change working in Kenilworth where there is limited crime. When crime does occur, information from the community is of great assistance in finding the perpetrator. I am keen to speak with members of the community in relation to any problems they may be experiencing. Please feel free to contact me 5446 0220 with any information in relation to suspicious activities happening in your area. Alternatively, you can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to provide the information. The information will be treated as confidential. Following on from that thought, there was a recent attempt to break in and enter one of the stores in Elizabeth Street and I am seeking any information in relation to these or similar activities. The crime rate in Kenilworth continues to be very pleasing and we hope to keep it that way. Special Note: Please be mindful that with school recommencing, all School Zone speed limits apply. With an increase of children, bus services and pedestrians using our streets and crossings - check your speed, remembering every K over is a killer. Craig TRETHEWEY OIC Kenilworth Police

ADVENTURES IN COMMUNITY FILMMAKING “Today anyone can learn the skills of Video Filmmaking!”

P

eople in the Sunshine Coast hinterland will have a unique opportunity to learn the skills of digital Photojournalism and Community Filmmaking at an exciting two day Workshop to be held at Kenilworth (Day 1) on 6 March, then the Project review and assessment (Day 2) on 17 April. Based on the lifetime experiences of Documentary Filmmaker and Photojournalist, Kev Franzi, the Workshop will feature not only the need to capture and preserve the stories and achievements of our past - but of equal importance is the need to capture and preserve today’s stories - the stories of talented people, of the special places and events in our communities - and the problems we face now and in the future. The problems of preservation in a digital “throw-away” society is also covered in the course. “Rapid change is the most dynamic force at work in our world today, and if we are to have future records of today’s lifestyle and achievements we must have in place an organised system of recording and preservation. There is great potential for a few people in every community to learn the skills and become ‘The Recorders’ of our lifestyle - yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow’s these are pictures with a real purpose,” said Mr. Franzi. Sponsored by the Kenilworth Arts Council, the Workshop package will include the “Action!” Kit (a two hour DVD and handbook), assignment and project notes, two lunches and morning and afternoon teas. The fully illustrated course will cover simple video production techniques for both Drama and Documentary production. A segment called “And Now It’s Showtime!” covers the many ways students’ work can be used promoted and exhibited. A special Festival of Short Films on 2 October will feature the work of community filmmakers as the grand finale to the Kenilworth Celebrates Festival. Further info can be obtained at www.kenilwortharts.org.au Kev. Franzi (07) 5446 0341 Photo by Birgit Kehr

KENILWORTH NAMBOUR AND DISTRICT SCHOOLS IN SUCCESSFUL SPORTS DAY Caloundra, Kenilworth and Eerwah Vale Head Groups

S

o read the headline on page 2 of the Nambour Chronicle on Friday, August 8, 1947.

In the time prior to Playstations, Nintendos, X-boxes, video games, video movies, DVDs, CDs, mobile phones, personal computers, the internet, chat rooms, web cameras, iPods, jet planes or cyberspace the district school sports were the highlight of the school year. In 1947 Kenilworth students travelled to Nambour in Purdon’s truck seated on hard school forms, leaving the township by 7.30am in an endeavour to arrive in time for the 9.00am commencement. Headmaster Mr Harry Welch (photo top right) had trained the Kenilworth team for months prior to the big day - so the expectation of coming home with the trophy was high. There were few students attending any school in the district who did not play sport and participate in physical exercise classes. Schools were divided into groups, according to enrolment numbers. A Group included, Caloundra, Nambour, Maleny, Woombye, and Yandina. B Group consisted of Kenilworth, Kenilworth Lower, Maroochy River, Mons and Witta. C Group contained Eerwah Vale, Belli Park, Chevallum, Perwillowen Creek and Eudlo. Each school trained exceptionally hard to take out the honours on the annual sports day. Historical Note: Kenilworth Lower School was situated on the hill where Woods Sand and Gravel now operates. It was the original Kenilworth School which opened in 1900. Belli Park school closed in 1963 and was sited at 1248 KenilworthEumundi Rd where ALJULE Cabinetmaking now stands. The Eerwah Vale school also closed in 1963 and was on the rise Eumundi side of the Browns Creek/Kenilworth-Eumundi Road intersection – on the left side of the road. All races were run by year of birth. Some of the results for the 1947 sports day were: From Kenilworth School Sprints • Boys: 1937 A Sutton 1; 1936 J. English 2; 1934 D. Owens 1 N. Murtagh 2; 1933 J. Hassall 1 • Girls: 1935 S Hewitt 2; 1934 B Stewart 1; 1933 A Lister 1; 1938 A Moreland 2 Skipping • Senior: B Stewart 1 A Lister 2 • Junior: L. Hayes 1 L. Miles 2 • Senior Broad Jump: D. Owens 1 (14 ft 1in) / J Hassall 2 • Senior High Jump: D. Owens 1 (4ft 41/2in)

Our front cover story second place in the Intermediate Broad Jump by L. Woods who cleared 12 ft • Girls Sprint: 1938 L Hayes 1; 1939 B Sutton 2 • Junior Broad Jump: R. Austin 1(11ft 61/2in) P Derrick (Kenilworth) 2 One of the highlights for the organisers was the large number of spectators who attended as alluded to in the newspaper report A most encouraging factor of the sports day was the larger number of parents of the children from the competing schools.

AUSTRALIA DAY 2010 IN KENILWORTH

W

hat an incredible day Australia Day 2010 turned out to be at Kenilworth Hotel.

The streets were rumbling with the sounds of V8’s arriving all morning for the first Annual Australia Day Car Show. The quality of cars on display was truly amazing. There were Fords, Holdens, American, utes, sedans, “Rods” and Panel Vans. We had cars that had featured on the cover of Street Machine as well as everyday drive cars. Even the children were happy when they realised they could get their face painted for free. The Fire Brigade were there cooking up a storm and stall owners were busy with their stalls. I would like to thank the Car Clubs and individuals who brought their cars on the day and a special thanks to Geoff Norris as it wouldn’t have been possible without his support. We look forward to doing it all again next year but next time we are hoping to make it bigger and better, so stay tuned. Photo above: publican Steve and the winner of the $100 prize money

Probus Club Australia Day celebrations

ustralia day was celebrated in style at Cooroy on the 26 January. Members of the Probus Club gathered for a True Blue Aussie lesson in ‘How to play 500’ delivered by an English gentleman ! Experienced players and beginners paired off to accept the challenge of trumping their opponents. New member, Derek Stevenson, proved too crafty a card player, winning the experienced players prize, while Lyn Pluck is still shaking her head wondering how she gained the beginners prize. We enjoyed a morning tea of lamingtons, the mandatory BBQ lunch followed by a fruity pavlova. Delicious! Great fun was had by all in celebrating our national day. Next meeting will be held at the Cooroy RSL on Monday 1 March 2010 at 9.30am. MARY VALLEY Mary Valley Photography Club

he Mary Valley Photography Club new website is now online and acts as a classroom, image display, and forum as well. It also has our calendar for the first half of the year and a “Hints and Tips” page. http://www.onlinegalleries.com.au/users/ maryvalleyphotoclub This website is for anyone in the Mary Valley region who wants to join and show off their photographs in the monthly competitions. You don’t have to come along to the monthly meetings, or attend our occasional weekend practicals, it is there to provide an outlet for all those who like taking photographs. If you are interested, I am asking for a small website and join fee this year a $12/person or $20/year per family, which goes towards the website upkeep, and if there is excess, some prizes for the competitions. Our Tuesday night meetings are held at the Mary Valley State College in Imbil. Tuesday 9 March at 7pm - Q & A, then lesson, low light and night photography. Tuesday 20 April at 7pm - Q & A, then lesson, portrait and family photography. February’s theme will be “Reflection” Here is a few “Quick Tips” you can use for now if you wish. SPONTANEITY - take your camera with you as often as you can, and if you see something interesting, take a few minutes to stop and take the photograph. Most unusual and really amazing things you see, are more often than not, only witnessed once in a lifetime. YOUR CAMERA - and lastly but in reality foremost, if you want to further your photography skills, it is important to know and understand your cameras features, so read your manual and experiment with the features. This way, when you see something that you want to take a photograph of, you will be able to capture it the way you want, without having to fumble around with its controls and end up missing the shot. Happy snapping! Brett Watson 0429 118 152

MARY VALLEY THE ART OF PROTEST Gympie EXHIBITION

T

he exhibition ‘the Art of Protest’ is all about the ‘on the ground’ art used to convey opposition to the Traveston Crossing dam proposal. It is not about high art, but more the raw, immediate, responsive art that appeared on highways, fences, billboards, banners, bodies, and vehicles. It tells the story of a community response from the heart that sprang up immediately after the announcement from Premier Beattie in April 2006, and didn’t stop until the final announcement by Minister Peter Garrett on that memorable day 11 November 2009. The relentless creative spirit continued throughout the three and half years, sometimes heartbreaking, often humorous - it tells a powerful story of people who refused to back down! There were always new ideas, new tactics, new slogans and many events that reached out and touched a nation and the world. The exhibition ‘The Art of Protest’ will display not all, but a lot of the actual items, merchandise, posters, cartoons, costumes and other items from this era, accompanied by video footage and the music that formed part of the campaign. These items are now regarded as collectibles in one way, because they illustrate what the power of the people can do. To see a large room like the Gallery space full of these items will bring back many memories, but will also give those who weren’t as involved an idea of the massive campaign achievement at a grass-roots level. The exhibition will be on display from 23 February until 3 April in The Gympie Times Exhibition Space at the Gympie Regional Gallery. Entry is free. The official opening is on Saturday 27 February in conjunction with the Gallery’s Bizzart Day at 11.30am.

The Man and the Biosphere program in the Mary River Catchment

T

he Mary River is associated with two Biosphere Reserves – Noosa and Great Sandy. Biospheres are areas recognised internationally by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for their significant conservation areas and their aim to encourage local communities to live more sustainably. The proposal to construct the Traveston Crossing Dam raised the profile of the catchment, including the rare Mary River Cod, Australian Lungfish and Mary River Turtle. The Mary Valley Renewal was formed to make sure the community is closely involved in any plans to rehabilitate the river environment. In 1971, the ‘Man and Biosphere’ was launched by UNESCO to find solutions for sustainable development for humanity and conserve, through rational use of biodiversity and local cultural knowledge. An ideal Biosphere will conserve resources, species, ecosystems and landscapes • Economic and human development • Logistic support for demonstration projects, environmental education with training, research and monitoring. The Noosa and Great Sandy Biosphere areas have rapidly expanding populations and the task is to develop and share learning about the loss of species and it’s repair whilst improving social fabric and context. THE BIOSPHERE PROGRAMS’ BENEFITS More international contacts: Exchanging research with Vietnam, France, United Kingdom, Switzerland and the USA. Better scientific data: Initiatives with Qld Universities, funds for projects, and links with the United Nations Environment Program and involves overseas researchers. Increasing tourism: Overseas experience shows Biospheres attract more tourists. Developing new industries, i.e. Bioprospecting: Where natural chemicals such as coral reefs and rainforests are developed into useful products i.e. pharmaceutical drugs. More funding: An international conservation group has provided funds to help protect fauna and flora in the Biospheres. This includes a conservation assessment in the Mary Catchment. Developing a marketing brand: Produce can be produced and labelled under an accreditation system specific to the region to meet standards of excellence.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

People Orientation: Biospheres depend on people doing what is right to maintain the principles and values set by UNESCO and the local place.

Arkin Mackay

Local community groups and government should consider the offer by the Biospheres to improve the Mary River environment and develop new businesses.

OUR COMMUNITY IMBIL First Responders

A

big hello to everyone from your first responders. We are currently training really hard and revisiting our skills to maintain them, as we do each year. 90% of people that die of a heart attack are not alone when they die. If you knew how to do CPR you could save someone’s life, possibly a loved one. We are going to be running CPR awareness nights for the community, these can be attended by all interested persons. For a gold coin donation you will learn how to be confident and competent in CPR. You will be issued with a certificate on completion of your short course (two hours duration). These courses will be held in both Imbil and Kandanga, on various Thursday nights in late February and early March.

to ensure that they are driving a registered vehicle.

Imbil

Unregistered and unlicensed driving are offences for which we now have impoundment powers for repeat offenders. It doesn’t matter if it is not your vehicle that you are driving, it will be impounded for 48 hours for repeat offences and an application may be made to the court for three month impoundment or forfeiture for further offences. If impounded, your vehicle will be towed and you must pay the towing fee for the vehicle to be released after the 48 hours. It will not be released until the fee is paid and storage fees will be charged for storage over the 48 hours. Police have no control over the towing fees and these are set by the towing company. Police will not drive your vehicle to the impounding area. As of 1/1/2010, new legislation has been enacted making it an offence for a person to smoke in a motor vehicle, on a road or road-related area, when the vehicle contains another person who is under the age of 16. The penalty for this offence is $200.

Please ring Stacey on 5488 4479 or text 0427 534 501 to register your interest in these courses, leave your name and number, limited numbers apply, however extra courses will be held if enough interest.

From 11 March 2010, all children up to seven years of age must be secured in a child restraint. A child may stop using a child restraint once they turn seven years of age or their eye level is above the back of the booster seat.

Please ensure you have your number clearly displayed at the front gate of your property. No one can find you if we can’t see a number displayed. This applies to fire, ambulance and police responding to your 000 call.

A child under four years of age cannot sit in the front row of a vehicle that has more than one row of seats, even if the child is three years of age and large enough to be seated in a booster seat. A child aged between four and seven years of age cannot sit in the front row of a vehicle that has more than one row of seats unless all the other seats are occupied by children under seven years of age.

We always need more recruits. We train at the Fire Station in Imbi on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 6-45pm. Please feel free to come along on any night if you are interested in joining and helping your community.

POLICE BRIEFS

appy New Year to everyone and we hope that 2010 is kind to you. We had a fairly quiet Christmas / New Year period with no major crashes and only three crashes in total. Unfortunately we issued a large amount of tickets and also had a number of arrests for traffic matters. We are finding that there are a lot of people driving with expired drivers licences - most have only expired by a short period. It is an offence to drive a vehicle on a road without a current drivers licence - even if it expired the day before. There is no grace period. Queensland Transport sends out reminder notices to the address on your licence six weeks before the expiry date. If you don’t change the address on your licence, you will not get the renewal notice. However, not getting a notice is not a defence to a charge of unlicensed driving. Check your drivers licence and make sure that it has not expired. There are also a lot of vehicles driving around with expired registration. It is not a defence to a charge that you borrowed the vehicle. It is the responsibility of the driver

The rules recognise that some children may be too small for a specific type of restraint. If your child is too small to move into the next level of restraint, you should keep your child in the lower level of child restraint for as long as necessary. The rules recognise that some children may be too large for a specific type of restraint. If your child is too large to fit into a restraint specified, you may move your child into the next level of restraint. A child is too tall for a booster seat when the level of the child’s eyes is above the level of the back of the booster seat. Terry Kennedy Sergeant

ello and Happy New year to everyone, I hope that you have had a great Christmas and new year and now it is back to work for a productive 2010. My resolution to everyone is to continue the strong and effective representation for you as your elected representative. I look forward to working with everyone for the betterment of Division 10. Please remember that the Sunshine Coast Region is under water conservation measures. Our personal target is 200 litres per person per day. Watering can occur any day prior to 10am and after 4pm except Mondays. This is to avoid watering over the hottest part of the day, when evaporation is at its highest level. Other restrictions apply and you can view these on the find out about section on council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au Not sure who to call in a flood, storm or other emergency? In the event of an emergency, then the following information should help. If your emergency relates to damage or protection of your property such as a damaged roof, a tree fallen on your house, sandbagging etc, please call • SES Flood and Storm Hotline on 135 200 The call will be directed to the local SES unit and a team will respond. If the emergency relates to a council service or infrastructure, such as a road washout, tree debris on roads, sewage station overflow or blocked storm water drains, then call • Sunshine Coast Council on 1300 00 7272 or 5475 7272 During February, Ovarian Cancer Australia will host their international campaign to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer. ary, myself and our family would like to wish everybody all the very best for the New Year. I feel that 2010 will be a very busy, yet fulfilling year for all of us.

Financial Assistance Grants funding is coming up for not for profit groups in the Gympie Regional Council region. Advertising commenced in January and applications close in March 2010. The information can be found on our website at www.gympie.qld.gov.au City Farm once again has a long list of various Free Trees for Rates, so go along to City Farm (situated at the TAFE complex in Gympie) and collect your free trees. Don’t forget to take your rates notice. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the Imbil Transfer Station, the Station is closed on Wednesday and Thursday and open Friday, Monday and Tuesday 7am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 8 am to 4pm. A new service has been set up for people in a health crisis who don’t think they need an ambulance, the number is ‘1300health’ (1300 432584) be sure to keep the number handy, you might just need it in the future. The Richmond Birdwing Butterfly has almost become extinct, so MRCCC have taken the initiative of growing and distributing the vines that provide an important food source for this butterfly, in the hope that we might be able to save this precious butterfly from that fate. This year the theme for the Heritage Art Competition is, “Celebrate Your Story”. Entries close on 14 April 2010. For info please call Gympie Regional Gallery on 5481 0733. Entry is free and prize money is in excess of $4,000 in total. Moy Pocket Road will once again have some money spent on it. This is an important road for the area, both for cars and for trucks, so it is vital to make it a safe road to drive on. These works are programmed for 2011/12 and more in 2014/15. Cats Claw is flowering at the moment, you may have thought those pretty yellow flowering vines along the creeks look wonderful, but how wrong we can be. This vine is threatening our waterways right across Queensland, so if you have these vines please phone me and let me know. Imbil First Response group meet at 6.30pm on 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at the Fire Brigade building at Imbil, everybody is most welcome, ‘the more the merrier’!! We desperately need new recruits to keep this vital service operating in the Mary Valley. A huge thanks, to those people in the Mary Valley who have been driving to the left on dirt roads, thus keeping the road two lanes. By doing this, the road will stay in a much better condition for so much longer. Cr Julie Walker 0437 543 035 • crjuliewalker@gmail.com

t the beginning of May, the Maleny Showgrounds will come alive as thousands of visitors arrive to enjoy the annual Maleny Wood Expo. A wonderful family event with attractions for all ages, the Expo attracted over 8,000 visitors in 2009. This offered local woodworkers, mobile millers and craftspeople an excellent opportunity to present their work to a wide audience from across SEQ. The return of many woodworkers year after year is testament to both the sales, the commissions and the interest generated by the Expo. If you are interested in being part of the Expo - as a furniture maker or selling wood products, as a mobile miller or with slab sales, or as part of the Taste Maleny Produce Store or the Sustainable Lifestyle area - your application to exhibit is due by late February. Application forms are available malenywoodexpo.com.au

Recognised throughout Australia as one of the best “wood shows” on the calendar, the Maleny Wood Expo showcases all styles of woodwork by local and regional wood artisans, from rustic bush furniture to contemporary design. The Maleny Wood Expo is hosted by Barung Landcare to demonstrate the beauty of our local native timbers and the need for sustainable harvesting if we are to have this resource in the future.

orld WakeUp! FREE ENERGY! Imagine! Selfsustaining energy supplies, no more electricity bills or petrol costs, and no pollution! Stop imagining! Free energy exists already! See examples in action at the first World WakeUp event, at The Blue House, 41 Farrell Street, Yandina, on March 6 from 9am to 12noon. Hinterland resident, Kylie Gillespie reported that this event and its’ web-petition are about opening ears and eyes to the reality and possibility of free energy in our world, and helping support those in the world who are working towards bringing free energy into every home, car, industry, and every application. When free energy is readily accessed, the world will be transformed. Environments, economies and ecologies will be renewed, poverty and famine could be eliminated, power struggles over depleting resources would cease. Even health will be impacted in ways too numerous to mention here, including emissions reduction and relief from electro-magnetic ‘noise’ in our environments! Find more info at http://www.world-wakeup.com The website is designed to provide access to further information, and a link to our i-petition to help create a voice for change.
