f there’s one thing to love about the holidays, it’s the food. I feel like it’s almost a reward for doing all of that shopping and planning the rest of the month, right? And boy have we got a treat for you this time around! Get your tastebuds ready, because DivBar Smokehouse BBQ is on the menu on this glorious Sunday funday! Can you smell it now? Carefully pronounced DIVE-BAR, this West Coast Highway wonder opened its waterside eatery in July 2012. A newbie, but you’d never know it with eclectic wall decor inside, and a painted sign that hangs over customers’ heads, saying “A great place to make a bad decision.” You know you’re in for a downhome treat. Yeah, not sure if the “bad decision” referred to here is the clientele or the calories, but either way, I’m frankly willing to take a risk. That’s because Pit Master Bill Bracken knows his ribs! The 14-hour slow cook on their meat is a dead giveaway for serious BBQ’in’ the American way. Baby back ribs are a must-have here at DivBar, you just can’t walk out those doors without a taste of them in your warm winter stomach. Oh yes, that, AND the smoked pork fries...AND the old school pizza...Y-U-to the M. Aside from the scoop on their barbeque dripping food, you may also be wondering why the heck this place is called DivBar. Well, colorful wall decor may be your first clue, but the truth is that the owners of the joint, Gary and Jeff, love the thought of a good neighborhood place where everyone knows your name, and a friendly welcome and familiar smile greet you at the door. I’m telling you, this is exactly the kind of treatment you’ll get when spending your Sunday in this spot. And quality food to boot? You are so there. You may get some BBQ saucy-sauce on these threads, but just make sure you have your Shout-Out pen nearby, and you’re good to go. Plus, a true OC’er doesn’t dare miss an opportunity to be fashionable! When a downhome, fun-filled group like this gets together, you know they’re shopping someplace good: The Movement in a home-style town like old town Orange is your go-to store for Sunday funday threads. These 2-year veterans to the retail stomping grounds offer up every Orange County kids’ favorite brands: Obey, RVCA, Nixon, Rainbow, Roxy, Ray Ban, Brandy Melville, LUSH and even TOMS shoes. The Movement’s owner James Orloff does a fab-oo job of keeping the trends fresh up in here, as they strive to bring customers “the newest, most cutting edge products in Men’s and Women’s fashion, action sports and lifestyle clothing.” Across from a few of the oldest buildings in the county, The Movement is in a cool, old town location, counteracting its new-kid style. Take a stroll through the cement floors of this extra large, 10,000-square-foot store, and you’re bound to come across something you love: great brands, great style, great customer care. In fact, all of the students at local Chapman University will tell you that this is one of their standard spots for So Cal style, and at a price that’s just right. I love that there’s something for everyone at The Movement from college co-eds to mom and dad, even stuff for the kiddos who are starting style young. Ask a staffer for their opinion on what to wear for Sunday funday and you’ll get an authentic and knowledgeable answer about what’s cool and what looks best on you. Love that. So snag that small town feeling with eats and outerwear at a couple of real-deal, local-grown small businesses. Way to put the FUN in funday!
