t’s Friday night, and the feelin’ is right! You must be ready for a quick escape from your holiday shopping list, right? Head east just a tad, away from the beach sands, and find yourself in the down-home country feeling of Tustin Roadhouse. Brick by brick in Old Town Tustin, the Tustin Roadhouse was built for barbeque and good times, so it’s easy to have one fun Friday here. It is actually nicknamed the Tustin Garage because of its history (you’ll know it when you walk in and see the antiqued barrels and signs in between the brick and red wall). I love Tustin Roadhouse’s nooks and crannies from the backyard patio with lawn chairs for chatting and kicking back, the cowskin armchairs in the corner sitting room, to the tiny arcade set-up equipped for good times. And a Pabst Blue Ribbon in a brown paper bag? Yes please! Contributing to the atmosphere, every Friday night, rain or shine, Tustin Roadhouse brings in live music to their retro garage-turnedroadhouse. With music in the air, and a dash of home-cooked barbeque sauce, you’ll be singing along to your favorite tunes and smiling gleefully at the strangers around you who’ve quickly become friends. Because that’s just the kinda place Tustin Roadhouse is! You feel me on this one? Plus, to add to the ambience, there is, of course, the food, which you’ll wanna get a whole table full of after you get a whiff. Insane BBQ, the must-have “street corn” creation that’s #1 on the menu, brisket, Texas toast, buttermilk fried chicken, and don’t forget the baked mac n’ cheese! Heck, it’s the holidays, and your diet doesn’t start until January 1, so don’t sweat it. I won’t stop raving to you just how awesome the atmosphere is at Tustin

Roadhouse. I don’t know if it’s the music or the Pabst, but it just feels like all-American fun when you step through these doors. So get in here this Friday night! You may catch me here too, if you’re lucky. With musicians on the Roadhouse stage and more Wranglers than you’ve seen in one place, you may be wondering what to wear to this local BBQ eatery. Well, if it’s a casual night out for some Friday night live music, I bet Collective has just what you need. Coming up on their first year of business (yay!) owners Peter Minko and Mike Thomas couldn’t be prouder about the way things at Collective are going. Collective is clearly a stand-out biz because of their non-stop specialty style. You see, Collective is a boutique for both guys and gals that only carries those unique, hard-to-find items which few other stores carry. You don’t wanna look like every other guy around town, do ya? Other surf shops and retail stores won’t carry the goods that Collective does, with brands for men like Insight, Brixton, Lira, Sabre and Elm; and women’s wear brands Kill City, Frankie B, Love Stone and Stussy, these racks are filled with the style that speaks to your individual style. Of course to top it all off, Collective boasts some killer customer service, where I feel happy and satisfied every time I walk out the door (shopping bags in-hand). Word on the street is that Collective will special order items just for you if they don’t have what you’re looking for in stock. Yet again, going above and beyond that everyday store experience you may be used to. Rock that individual style, and be individually you. Shop Collective.

Or, if you’re looking for style on a budget, then Gloss Boutique in Costa Mesa’s Anti-Mall (aka The Lab) is for you. Gloss is part of a small chain of sassy Southern California stores making headlines for their crazy low prices and daring, funky style. Women’s wear at under $40, you can find hot cotton dresses, sky-high heels and boots and the ultimate in accessories for any and every occasion. When I first walked into this corner store at The Lab, I knew I had stepped into a wealth of fashion forwardness. So, so many items to choose from, and I swear I kept doing an obvious double-take at the price tags, which would have been embarrassing, but I’m sure the stylish staff here is used to it. Gloss almost always has a board sign out front drawing you into their fashionista mecca of style, reading “$10 off” this or that and two-fers all over the place. It is just way too easy to fill up your shopping bag at a place like this! From basic tees and sweaters, to party dresses and party shoes, Gloss just might be topping your list for shopping spots for this live music Friday night ... and for Saturday night and Sunday too. There’s so much color at Gloss Boutique, I feel like everywhere I looked there was another shade of purple or red or green that I had to add to my wardrobe. I must say, there are very few boutiques in OC that carry a great stock of heels and shoes for women. But Gloss was the answer to my shoe-lovin’ prayers with all they have to choose from in footwear! As a devout and self-proclaimed shoe-obsessed girl, I was very, very impressed. Well done, Gloss! You saved me some major moolah on my holiday shopping list!
