SYMBOLS OF STRENGTH www.gucci.com Every season, Gucci’s iconic leather goods are freshly interpreted in both men’s and women’s accessories collections. Clockwise from upper left corner: the Ophidia shoulder bag for women also features a nostalgic palette in a new design featuring a gold chain, with green leather trim and suede, as well as a blue and red web stripe. The Ophidia GG backpack for men doubles as a briefcase. A nod to the brand’s archive pattern from the 1970s, it is crafted in GG Supreme Canvas with an inlaid green and red web stripe. The large front pocket is trimmed in brown leather. The maison’s iconic bamboo top handle, each shaped by hand, gets an update in this red patent leather bag with a shoulder chain, a top flap and a roaring enamelled feline head with crystals. Equally showstopping, the Rajah large tote, adorned with a sparkling, colourful tiger’s head hardware, pays tribute to fashion and jewellery designer Hattie Carnegie’s designs from the 1940s. Crafted in brown suede and black patent leather, the tote spotlights Gucci’s unmistakable green and red web stripe in front. The Ophidia shoulder bag is also available in emerald coloured leather with a Double G hardware, inspired by Gucci’s belt buckle design from the 1970s.

PLACE VENDÔME: A JEWEL CASE

In rue de la Paix and Place Vendôme, the biggest jewellers have magnificent boutiques – veritable jewel cases for their creations. Place Vendôme, the luxury high-end Swiss brand Jaeger-LeCoultre owns its elegant boutique, decorated in understated luxury and Louis Vuitton its boutique and jewellery workshop. Chanel opened a high-end jewellery workshop above its boutique. Every year, it presents two collections (linked to the haute couture calendar) exclusively with precious stones and unique pieces of jewellery. Other outstanding brands Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Dior Joaillerie, Boucheron, Bucherer, Chaumet, Bulgari, Chopard, Mauboussin - each have their own boutique. And the watch maker Breguet has its largest international showcase here: 500 m² on two levels, a boutique on the ground floor and an exhibition area on the first floor. It is not only the prestigious brands that draw the visitors here, but also the unbounded creativity of the jewellers, artists in their own right. In their hands, precious metals and gems take on new forms:arabesques, flowers, aquatic plants, animals, lacework and sculpture. Elegant, modern, unusual shapes emerge from their imagination, enabling everyone to find that precious ornament to suit their personality and enhance their looks. The biggest names in highend jewellery have addresses in Place Vendôme, the most glamorous of Paris’s squares.

Audi, partner of the Italian Winter Sports Federation for the past 12 years, launches the e-tron, an all-electric SUV, and has been named the Official Car of Cortina d’Ampezzo, which will be hosting the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021.With the ultimate goal of introducing a total of 20 electric car models by 2025, Audi will begin series production of the new e-tron next year. From the production of propulsion systems and alternative fuels, to digital applications for interfaces with avant-garde, automated infrastructures and guidance systems, Audi is developing innovative solutions for the mobility of the future. Its product range of electric cars is a fundamental part of this strategy, together with related services and infrastructures. To anticpate e-tron’s introduction to the local market,Audi Italy has signed an agreement with ENEL in order to integrate purchase of the new electric SUVs with recharging services and products, allowing new owners to

In its support of Cortina at the forefront of eco-sustainability,Audi is also working on a project in which digital installations in the region’s populated areas can help to raise the public’s awareness by detecting and analysing interactions between oneself and the environment. The e-tron boasts 150 kW DC charging, for a range of up to 328 km on a full charge; 402 hp/300 kW with boost technology, new electric quattro all-wheel drive, with dual motors set on each axle which distribute power efficiently and output nearly spontaneous torque. The e-tron is equipped with a virtual cockpit plus, smartphone interface with Wireless CarPlay and much more.

The new e-tron Sportback can accelerate from o to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds in boost mode and has a top speed of up to 200 km/h. Progressive steering and sport suspension increase agility. The optional virtual side mirrors reach a drag coefficient of 0.27, and is symbolic of a new generation of vehicle design, according to Audi aerodynamic development manager Moni Islam. With an AC charging capacity of 11 kW, the e-tron Sportback can be ordered with an optional second onboard charger from summer 2020, increasing the charging capacity to 22 kW. The Plug&Charge function will also be implemented by 2020. Available on request in plasma blue metallic, an exclusive colour for the e-tron Sportback.

THRILLING DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE Featuring a sporty design for improved aerodynamics and 10 additional kilometres in range, which totals to 446 when fully charged, the Audi e-tron Sportback steps up the electric driving experience.

The newest member of the e-tron family, the Audi e-tron Sportback’s dynamic silhouette with a coupé-like roof contributes to the reduction of air resistance, an important factor in electric cars and in constant driving conditions at a consistent speed, such as on freeways. To further improve aerodynamics, the enclosed air flow is guided through the entire front end and back out through the underfloor. This design becomes even more evident in the e-tron Sportback’s athletic look. Audi’s quattro drive offers a maximum engine output of 300 kW (408 hp) and maximum torque of up to 664 Nm, as the electric motors ensure smooth and spontaneous start-up and acceleration. High power charging with up to 150 kW, 80% of the 95 kWh battery’s energy can be restored in just 30 minutes.

HIGH GEAR In light of the 2020World Cup Finals and theWorld Alpine Skiing Championships in 2021,Cortina is poised to become a true mobility hub.Working with the municipality,Audi has redeveloped the Fiames area, near Cortina, transforming it into an ideal destination for diverse driving experiences of the Audi electric car range. There is a snow/ice track, a natural and artificial parkour, with a proving ground open to the public in winter (from December to 15 April) and summer (from 15 June to 15 September). Experienced pilots and test drivers are on hand to assist those who test-drive the Audi mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full electric models.A fleet of 22 Audi cars, including 7 Audi e-tron will be available, along with 13 recharging locations in the territory.Audi also inaugurated its “Cortina e-portrait” installation demonstrating the environmental data collected over the course of two years, which will be cross-referenced with other relevant indicators in partnership with H-FARM, for an environmental plan to be defined with the Municipality of Cortina.

RELIVING THE GOOD TIMES www.goodwood.com Goodwood Revival has been celebrating the heyday of automobile racing for over 20 years, and is the world’s most celebrated historic motor racing event. Held over a long weekend every September, it is firmly marked on the international motorsport calendar, and is unmissable for every petrol head and enthusiast in the UK. From 1948 until 1966, the Goodwood Motor Circuit was home to British motor racing where the likes of Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Jim Clark and Gramham Hill competed. The circuit was established by the 9th Duke of Richmond, a Brooklands winner, and was finally re-opened by his son, the Earl of March, who drove the same Bristol 400 as his father and inaugurated the aptly named event, Goodwood Revival, in 1998. Today, the feverish atmosphere of those olden days can be felt in the presence of vintage vehicles and period costumes. As an automotive partner of the event, Maserati showcased the history of its V8 cars, and 15 of its classic models competed last year. A fleet of chauffeured Maserati Levante, Quattroporte and Ghibli models served guests between the track and Goodwood House. A new edition of Goodwood Revival will take place from 11 to 13 September 2020.

Using three ducted fans, the Tri-Fan 600 lifts off vertically. In seconds, the two wing fans rotate forward for a seamless transition to high-speed flight, with a third concealed in a sliding door on top of the aircraft, ready to be in use. Within just 90 seconds, the airplane reaches cruise speed. The lift is provided by the wings just like every other fixed-wing airplane. TIMELESS LAKE COMO www.firefly-collection.com

An architectural masterpiece providing a glimpse into the 16th to 18th centuries, Villa Bellanna by Firefly Collection - Villa Balbiano - is the fruitful collaboration between Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio and mural painter, decorator and architect Pellegrino Tibaldi, who was also commissioned by the cardinal to construct Villa d’Este, not far away. However, it was not until the 18th century when the villa was acquired by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini that it truly blossomed into a home for the arts and a private haven on Lake Como. Baroque frescoes, Michelangeloesque by influence, created by prolific local artists, the Recchi brothers, have been preserved and restored, and can be admired throughout the interiors. 162

Villa Bellanna by Firefly Collection, or Villa Balbiano, was built by Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio at the end of the 16th century according to Pellegrino Tibaldi’s design, and was explanded and embellished by Cardinal Durini in the 18th century. In 1637, Marco Gallio changed the layout of the grounds in order to obtain enough space to create the Italian garden. In 1787, the property was sold to Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, papal nuncio, an enthusiast of arts and letters, patron and collector. He enlarged the house and garden, setting up statues, fountains and new avenues between hedges and pergolas. The simple façade accentuated by gray stone ornamental carvings is reflected in the serene water of Lake Como. The interior spans over 600 sqm over three floors. The main entrance leads to the frescoed lobby, surrounded by a dining room, a library, a winter garden and three salons. Adjacent is the service rooms: the kitchen and a covered terrace with a working fireplace for outdoor dining. On the first floor, the lake view gallery leads to the studio and the master suite. Well-preserved and restored Baroque frescoes by the Recchi brothers (Giovan Battista and Giovan Paolo Recchi) from the 17th century can be discovered throughout the villa, built by Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio. In the 18th century, the villa became the residence of Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, who expanded it and added an important library in the lobby, which was known and admired by scholars of the time. Later, large halls like the lobby on the ground floor of Villa Bellanna hosted recitation meetings, musical concerts and literary discussions.

The outdoor swimming pool set amongst Villa Bellanna’s welllandscaped grounds provides one of the best vantage points from which one can admire the iconic landscape of Lake Como, with small towns tucked between green hills and blue waters. To see more beautiful villas and gardens on Lake Como, don’t miss 12th-century Villa Balbianello in Lenno for its formal gardens and views that one might recognise from the film “Casino Royale”, or Villa Carlotta with 14 acres of manicured gardens in Tremezzo, further down the shoreline.

The vaulted ceilings are one of the many original architectural features of Villa Bellanna, constructed according to drawings by Pellegrino Tibaldi, mural painter, decorator and architect. Some of his most well-known fresco paintings can be found in Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, and Palazzo Poggi in Bologna. He was commissioned by Cardinal Gallio to construct Villa d’Este, in 1575. He went on to serve as a court painter in Spain for almost 10 years, and finally returned to Italy where he was appointed architect of the Duomo of Milan, until his death in 1592.

Villa Bellanna boasts an idyllic location on the western shore of Lake Como. It has private access to the water and a boathouse. The villa is situated in the town of Ossuccio, 20 kilometres north of Como. The town, together with Mezzegra, Lenno and Tremezzo, is an ideal departure point for an enriching experience, surrounded by other picturesque towns that are easily accessible from here. Ossuccio itself is known for a pilgrimage site called Sacro Monte, one of the nine sacred mounts in Lombardy and Piedmont, and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

LES CHALETS DU MONT D’ARBOIS, MEGÈVE, A FOUR SEASONS HOTEL www.fourseasons.com/megevechalets

Ideally located at the foot of the Mont d’Arbois slopes overlooking Megève, just two kilometres from the Four Seasons Hotel Megève, Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois offers three chalets with a total of 41 rooms, including 8 luxurious suites with authentic charm. They are named after the three oldest daughters of Benjamin and Ariane de Rothschild, Ève, Noémie and Alice. The main chalet, called Chalet Ève, was bought in 1960 by the Baron Edmond de Rothschild to host the famous 100-hour party held to inaugurate the newly-renovated Palace des Neiges, the family’s first hotel. 184

Each chalet has its own personality: the Chalet Ève is the sentinel of traditional style, the Chalet Noémie offers a luxurious and refined decor, while the ambiance at Chalet Alice is chic bohemian. Each of these styles is steeped in the timeless codes of alpine chalets: timber window frames, ancient beams, old spruce and fir wood, uncut stonework and mountain motifs. The new décor features materials chosen for their texture, especially fabrics that call out to be touched and admired. Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois clients have access to the Four Seasons Hotel Megève. The hotel tweaks ski resort codes to offer its guests an elegant, contemporary chalet, but what truly sets it apart are the hotel’s countless works of art from the private collection of Ariane de Rothschild. Located in heights of Megève, a few minutes’ drive from Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois, the 55-room hotel with direct access to the slopes has three restaurants to choose from: Le 1920 for fine dining at the Four Seasons Hotel Megève, run by 2-star Chef Julien Gatillon, Kaito, a pan-Asian Japanese fusion restaurant, and The Edmond Bar, serving light cuisine in a cosy setting. The hotel also boasts a sumptuous 900m2 Spa featuring contemporary, streamlined design, a funpowered ‘Teen Zone’ for the family teenagers and an enchanted Kids Kingdom for younger children.

The Chalet Ève, offering 25 rooms and suites, is also home to the Prima restaurant which recently earned a Michelin star thanks to Chef Nicolas Hensinger, and the Spa by Bamford for all the Chalets, fully renovated in 2019 and equipped with an indooroutdoor pool overlooking stunning mountainscapes. A cosy lounge featuring an exceptional fireplace invites guests to relax in a traditional Savoyard decor after an invigorating day in the Alps, while the more contemporary bar opens onto a redesigned terrace.

Fine dining at Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois means a table at Prima. Serving refined gourmet cuisine, this restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 2019. Julien Gatillon, Executive Chef of the Mont d’Arbois Resort restaurants, oversees the Prima kitchens, but gives free rein to Chef Nicolas Hensinger in the kitchens. Nicolas Hensinger draws his inspiration from nature and his family roots as well as the mountains where he and his team regularly take excursions to gather aromatic herbs.

The new intimate spa in Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois, which has just been fully renovated, will open again this December. Its contemporary design is a perfect fit with the hotel’s cosy chic ambiance. Guests will find 3 treatment booths, including a ‘duo’ suite, a heated indoor- outdoor pool with relaxation area, a mixed steam room and sauna, as well as a Jacuzzi. The outdoor pool, surrounded with fresh snow, will allow clients to admire a 180° view of giant fir trees and mountain ranges.

The Chalet Noémie was built in 1927 by Henry-Jacques Le Même for Noémie de Rothschild to be used as a private chalet for the family. An intimate space with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking majestic mountainscapes, the chalet has the Alpine charm of yesteryear with a modern twist. The Chalet Noémie is just a few metres down from the main Chalet Ève. It offers 4 suites and 3 rooms, including the luxurious Noémie suite and the charming Edmond suite, decorated in a traditional classic style.

The Chalet Alice, built in 2005 as an extension of the Chalet Noémie, is the most recent of the three chalets. The Chalet Alice has it all to make your stay unforgettable; six rooms and two suites, a private spa and common living area with a fireplace. For families or groups of friends who want a chalet all to themselves, the Chalet Alice and the Chalet Noémie can easily be fully privatised for greater comfort.

If you love exclusive experiences, the Suite Idéal is for you. This ‘refuge’ suite is nestled at the top of the Mont d’Arbois ski slopes, over the Idéal 1850 chalet-restaurant. Superbly located facing the Mont-Blanc mountain range, it offers a breathtaking view of the entire valley and surrounding peaks. This 140m2 Suite is especially designed to offer a unique mountaintop moment in a refined universe: an exceptional experience for a couple or family. The Suite Idéal offers access to all Four Seasons services and facilities.

Hotel guests can choose from a wide variety of activities, including: The Ski Safari, offering skiers direct access by helicopter to the most beautiful ski areas. Guests of all ages can explore the snowy landscape by dogsled, horse-drawn sleigh, electric snowmobiles, driving a small tracked ‘chenillette’, skijoring, biathlon, or walks with the mascot Némo, a young Bernese mountain dog. Also available are carriage rides down to the village, with torchlight processions after nightfall and family fun at the ice skating rink, which will be set up this winter in front of Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois.

This project is a collaborative effort between Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, world leader on the luxury hotel market, and Edmond de Rothschild Heritage. The combined savoir-faire of Four Seasons and Edmond de Rothschild Heritage brings a new dimension to tourism in Megève, providing guests with a unique hotel experience rooted in a vision passed down from generation to generation. Ariane de Rothschild was very involved in the project, calling on the talents of Thierry Curty under the artistic direction of Pierre-Yves Rochon.

A JEWEL IN THE LOIRE VALLEY www.chateaugrandluce.com Hotel Château du Grand-Lucé, just south of Paris, in the Loire Valley, is housed in a fully restored neoclassical building originally constructed in 1760 as a royal residence for Baron Jacques Pineau de Viennay and named after the village where it is located. Eighty acres include the main château, orangerie, spa, ballroom, gardens and much more. Overlooking the landscaped grounds, the accommodations are designed by architect Mathieu de Bayeux to reflect the splendour during King Louis XV’s reign. A number of original features such as the white oak flooring in a point de Hongrie pattern have been preserved. Colours and textures enrich the sophisticated interiors with 18thcentury furniture pieces and wall coverings that pay tribute to French design, from Jean-Baptiste Pillement (1728-1808) and Zuber, founded in 1797, to 20th-century masters such as Pierre Frey and Manuel Canovas. Carefully selected artworks comprising oil paintings and objets d’art that are unique to each room complete the interiors within these hallowed walls under high ceilings.

198

The formal gardens, facing the main château, are inspired by Versailles and are divided by a central allée lined with manicured boxwoods. Just beyond, green beans, tomatoes, lettuces, artichokes and lavender grow in the herb garden.

The grounds of Hotel Château du Grand-Lucé comprise multiple buildings and courtyards which have been converted into the grand ballroom, spa and fitness centre. Other yet-to-be restored structures provide a glimpse into the rich history of this residence.

The exotic garden teeming with flowers is centered around the swimming pool. On one side, the original greenhouses and orangerie with a variety of citrus trees are still working today to produce the bounties that the Loire Valley has to offer.

Beyond the château and its immediate gardens, one can explore multiple courtyards and terraces, while discovering the statues which King Louis XV gave the baron as a gift. A lake, meadows and an ancient white oak forest surrounded by medieval walls are spread across 80 acres.
