Celine’s Womenswear Winter 21 campaign was photographed by Hedi Slimane at Amnesia, Privilege and Eden in Ibiza in May 2021 featuring Quinn Elin Mora.

THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER www.celine.com

Celine’s womenswear winter 2021 fashion show took place in the André Le Nôtre Gardens of the Chateau De Vaux-Le-Vicomte March 2021. The inspirations for the setting were drawn from the visionary verses of several literary greats of France: “Her gaze is like the gaze of statues” from Paul Verlaine’s “My Familiar Dream”; “My youth has been nothing but a tenebrous storm, pierced now and then by rays of brilliant sunshine” from Charles Baudelaire’s “The Enemy”, and “I alone have the key to this savage parade” from Arthur Rimbaud’s “Parade”. But the greatest inspiration was the location itself. “The gardens of Versailles would not exist were it not for those of Vaux-Le-Vicomte design by André Le Nôtre. They mark the invention of “French Gardens.” The “great century” was foretold insofar as it was born at Vaux-Le-Vicomte in 1656.” Nicolas Fouquet received King Louis XIV on its opening day. The chateau went through several ownerships over the centuries and was acquired, in 1875, by an ancestor of the Vogüé family, who have been restoring it ever since. The collection’s vision, “a utopian parade and melancholic daydream of

youth interrupted“, in some way describes the life of Celine’s Creative Director, Hedi Slimane. Born to an Italian mother and Tunisian father, Slimane discovered photography at the age of 11 when he received his first camera, and he learned black and white darkroom printing. When he was 16, he started making his own clothes, without thinking about entering the fashion industry. He studied Art History at the École du Louvre and completed a tailor apprenticeship at a men’s designer house. He also visited the offices of “Le Monde” newspaper as he considered becoming a journalist and reporter. From 1992 to 1995, Slimane assisted fashion consultant Jean-Jacques Picart on the centenary of the project “monogram canvas” of Louis Vuitton. And in 1996, Pierre Bergé appointed Slimane as Yves Saint Laurent’s men’s ready-to-wear director, and later became artistic director. After the Black Tie collection for autumn-winter 2000, which foreshadowed the advent of Slimane’s silhouette, and the debuts of “skinny,” he chose to leave YSL, declined the offer of creative directorship at Jil Sander, and accepted the position of creative director for menswear at Christian Dior. In 2002, Hedi Slimane was the first menswear designer to receive the CFDA award for International Designer. In January 2018, LVMH announced that Slimane would take on the role of creative director at Celine. The Celine’s womenswear winter campaign, shot by Slimane, is a reminder of his first love: photography, which he never gave up throughout the years working with art curators, publishers and artists. He still shoots for magazines and continues to be active in the photography scene.

transported to a night so quintessentially New York, that it could have happened in the 1920s or today. www.sergiorossi.com Italian Craftsmanship Skillful artisans have been handcreating Sergio Rossi shoes for the past 70 years. The perfect pair requires 120 steps and 14 hours of work.

Sergio Rossi’s philosophy is simple: to think of a shoe not just as a superfluous ornament, but as the continuation of the body, comfortable, decorative, designed for the movement of contemporary women today. The Sergio Rossi brand has since expanded from women’s footwear to include men’s footwear, bags and accessories.

Thirty years after the creation of the first shoes bearing his name, French company, Kering, acquired the Sergio Rossi brand in 1999, and with this, new shops opened in major cities like London, Tokyo and Paris. During the autumn/ winter 2009/10 collection, Then-Creative Director Francesco Russo designed his first collection for the brand. The Sergio Rossi brand played a part in developing sustainable fashion with its Eco Pump, a biodegradable shoe created using “Liquid Wood”. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the Eco Pump went to GoodPlanet.org, a foundation established to raise public awareness of environmental protection.

Spring/Summer 2022 Sergio Rossi is never afraid to look to the past and heritage while creating new models and accessories, which always fit perfectly in the current season. The Spring/ Summer collection is meant to reinforce the importance of the main collections and top-selling pieces while bringing a new reinterpretation of iconic footwear, together with seasonal accessories.

BRIGHT LIGHTS AHEAD Dolce & Gabbana’s new DG Light Spring/Summer 22 fashion show can be best summed up with a handful of keywords that immediately conjure up a glamorous picture during Milan Fashion Week: light, embroideries and colours, femininity and sensuality, as well as key pieces such as miniskirts, laced pants and underwear, minimal beachwear and last but not least, stiletto heels. It is a strong meeting between the light and the reinterpretation of aesthetic codes of the past with the new generations in mind. Embroideries and colours present on the looks (103 in total) fuse together with slim and cargo silhouettes, a re-edition of the brand’s 2000s catwalk. The waist becomes lower, miniskirts make an unbridled comeback, pants are enriched with laces. The beachwear stands out for its minimal touches and swimsuits allowing the lace underwear underneath to be half-seen. Footwear includes exclusively stiletto heels, emblem of quintessential femininity and sensuality. This collection represents a memory of the past with a look towards the future, a symbol of restart and optimism. Always remembering, never repeating.

Bvlgari unveils a handmade Murano glass jewel bottle by Fornace Mian, adorned with gold and coloured gems.

FROM ROME TO VENICE www.bulgari.com

ONE AND ONLY

With a 1/1 inscription, Bulgari Opera Grandiosa with its bejewelled design in 18kt rose gold and coloured gemstones at once combines the perfumery and jewellery-making arts.

Bulgari embarks on a new journey by paying homage to the Venetian heritage and its glassmaking tradition. It all starts with the bottle. For the occasion, the craftsmen of Fornace Mian have been commissioned to create a complex game of balance between fire, the artist’s vision and the very nature of the raw material. Founded by Alfio Mian and his son Giuliano in 1962, the Murano glass-making company is now in its third generation, helmed by Simone and Patrizia, occupying a factory space of about 10,000 square metres and employing 90 people. Formia produces different ranges of light fittings and objects, whose design reflects various sources of inspiration. The “sbruffo” technique is essential for the introduction of colour: the craftsman blows several layers of glass, working on different shades, transparencies and consistencies, in order to produce a result that is as intense, luminous and rich as Bulgari’s jewellery creations. With its magnificent layers of colour, the mouth-blown bottle captures the hue of an intense amethyst. The inscription “1/1” on the base of the bottle indicates that this glass creation is one and only, like a true work of art. Bvlgari Le Gemme Imperiali Desiria is a luxurious Eau de Parfum that opens the doors to an idyllic and dreamlike universe. The bewitching magnolia unleashes its seductive power with a subtle touch of rose petals, while a captivating accord of musks reveals the fragrance’s irresistible and sumptuous character.

46

BEAUTY

To create the precious necklace that adorns the bottle, Bulgari used 18 kt rose gold and gemstonesto create hexagonal gold scales, evocative of the iconic Serpenti design, meticulously set with rubellites (5.39 ct), amethysts (4.86 ct) and citrines (4, 56 ct). This rainbow of precious stones is topped with a spectacular spherical, smooth and voluptuous 2.485 carat malachite, reminiscent of Bulgari’s signature cabochon cut. Sublime final touch of this luxurious piece, the BVLGARI logo engraved on the neck of the bottle is bordered on each side by a brilliant-cut diamond. An association of vibrant gems, selected and matched with daring and exuberance. This unique piece of jewellery requires more than 250 hours of work by a single craftsman. Contained in its precious bottle, the perfume inside has been designed and developed like a jewellery piece by the famous master perfumer, Daniela Andrier, who transforms the most precious natural ingredients into a sublime fragrance.

MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT www.rolex.com Calibre 3255 is a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, with patents such as the Paraflex shock absorbers and Chronergy escapement that provide stability and anti-magnetism. What’s more is that the blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in a paramagnetic alloy. Insensitive to magnetic fields, the Parachrom hairspring offers great stability in the face of temperature variations and remains up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. Calibre 3255 is fitted with a self-winding module featuring a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of this movement extends to approximately 70 hours.

The Day-Date’s calendar displays the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped window at 12 o’clock in addition to the date in a separate window at 3 o’clock. This display relies on disc mechanisms; the day and date change simultaneously and instantaneously. The indication of the day of the week is available in a choice of 26 languages. The Day-Date is also equipped with a mechanism allowing rapid adjustment of the day and the date using the winding crown. Like all Rolex watches, the Day-Date is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories and according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement,

guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolised by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international 5-year guarantee. The precision of every movement – officially certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) – is tested a second time by Rolex after being cased for a precision within −2/+2 seconds per day, much stricter than that accepted by COSC for official certification of the movement alone. Rolex checks the waterproofness, the self-winding capacity and the power reserve of 100 per cent of Rolex watches. These tests systematically complement the qualification testing during development and production, in order to ensure the watches’ reliability, robustness, and resistance to magnetism and shocks.

Buccellati reinterprets one of its most memorable designs, originally created for writer and poet Gabriele d’Annunzio, to celebrate the maison’s 100th anniversary.

A TOKEN OF LOVE www.buccellati.com

In a letter 5 August 1931, as the first order of this type of necklaces, D’Annunzio wrote: “I need a necklace, no longer than 50 cm [...] It must encircle the neck and go down into the middle of the chest...” Another letter, dated 20 June 1928, D’Annunzio described Buccellati’s necklaces as “cheerful”. A particularly memorable necklace was the one that d’Annunzio ordered from Mario Buccellati for the greatest actress of Italian theatre of the time, Duse, who passed away in 1924. Crafted in gold and silver, set with engraved rock crystal, the umbilical necklace was one of d’Annunzio’s last gifts to his beloved “Divina”.

Buccellati celebrates its 100th anniversary with the launch of a book published by Assouline and has reinterpreted the elegant and sumptuous umbilical necklaces, originally created for writer and poet Gabriele d’Annunzio. During the book’s presentation, some of the new necklaces will be exhibited together with those from the 1920s and 1930s, designed by Buccellati’s founder, Mario Buccellati, safeguarded today in private collections and the brand’s archives. The long necklaces get their name from a unique design that spotlights a pendant that drapes elegantly over the navel. Precious gems include pearls, jade, opal, coral, lapis, rock crystal and moonstone, which alternate with engraved gold elements for a bright yet refined colour combination. Some styles are set with diamonds.

The old and new umbilical necklaces will be featured during a world tour celebrating the 100th anniversary of Buccellati, along with the launch of its book published by Assouline. The jewellery maison’s testimony of know-how, combined with consistency and perseverance, continues into a new era.

Buccellati’s archive material has provided insights into the reat cultural affinit bet een founder Mario Buccellati and poet and writer Gabriele d’Annunzio, inspiring the creation of innovative and revolutionary pieces in the maison’s inimitable style.

Jacob & Co. created the Brilliant collection for women who want to adorn her wrist and appreciate high-watchmaking movements.

UNIQUELY FOR HER www.jacobandco.com

© Jacob & Co

Skeletonizing is an age-old tradition in watchmaking. The challenge is to remove enough material from the movement to make it nearly transparent, without impacting its performance, precision, or robustness. Jacob & Co.’s watchmakers have been skeletonizing movements for decades, so they understand exactly where and how much to remove. The result is a nearly see-through movement, set up to maximize the beauty of this little engine on the wrist. The JCAM01 movement has a power reserve of 46 hours and showcases the traditional art of skeletonization. The beauty of skeletonized watches is that there are no dials - instead the highest quality sapphire crystals expose the details of the movement, including the wheels, gears, the balance, bridges, and the barrel. The leaf-shaped hands in the centre, indicating the hours and minutes, float over the mechanical splendour.

GEM-SETTING

The diamond and gemstones industry is a closed society, and it is really a relationship business. Sourcing the very best diamonds and gemstones depends on reputation and personal connections. Jacob & Co. has access to the very best sources of diamonds and gemstones from all over the world, carefully selecting them for quality, cut, clarity, and matching color, before having them set by expert gem setters. CASE & CRYSTAL

The driving force for Jacob & Co. is creativity. From his earliest beginnings in jewellery and watches, Jacob Arabo has been designing beautiful and innovative products. The breadth of Jacob & Co.’s offering shows the brand’s insatiable need to produce amazing pieces that the world has never seen before. “I have to create,” says Mr. Arabo.”My dream has always been to invent things that haven’t been done before. For the brand, it’s about making the impossible reality.” Jacob & Co.’s mission is to create beautiful, dynamic and unique pieces of watchmaking and jewellery art.

The screw-down winding crown and the case with screw-down back together make up the Oyster’s exceptional waterproof design, patented in 1926, allowing the wearer to adjust the essential functions of the watch, or to wind it, by interacting directly with the movement.

The innovative process developed by Rolex to obtain the unique twocolour Cerachrom bezel inserts for the GMT-Master II consists in changing the colour of the ceramic on one half of the insert. The change of colour is achieved by impregnating half of the insert with an aqueous solution containing various chemical compounds. The solution is added before the sintering process, during which the ceramic acquires its mechanical resistance properties as well as its colour or colours. In the course of this sintering, the ceramic densifies and the added compounds react with the basic elements of the Cerachrom insert, which alters the initial colour on one half of the insert. Since it is manufactured in a single piece, the insert acquires mechanical resistance properties like the rest of the watch.

The House’s historic home, which will be reborn with an added rooftop garden and an exhibition gallery, inspired Artistic Director of Dior Joaillerie Victoire de Castellane to create a “Planet Dior”, which includes an abstract narrative in the form of a more symbolic evocation. Enhanced by oval or cushion cuts, Sri Lankan sapphires reveal a sea of blues with subtle violet undertones. Playing with different setting heights, pear-cut rubies and yellow diamonds dazzle on necklaces and earrings. Featured on the backs of certain stones, a gold mesh punctuated with diamonds might reveal a secret mechanism, like a hidden treasure.

The manufacture movement is entirely designed and manufactured in-house. It features a tourbillon at six o’clock which is no less striking than the piece itself: self-winding, with a microrotor visible on the dial side, and three bridges made from transparent sapphire.

Two striking creations with generous dimensions of 43 mm; two unique pieces crafted from King Gold or white gold, with the integrated bracelet further reinforcing the visual impact, as the graduated spectrum of colours radiates outwards from the bezel to the bracelet.

POP SPIRIT Juxtapositions, gradations, contrasts, no Pantone is out of reach – not even the palette required for “Rainbow”. AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW www.hublot.com Hublot introduces the Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski Red Magic, in a vivid color that exudes passion whilst evoking Richard Orlinski’s famed sculpture Born Wild Crocodile. Orlinski, best-selling French artist since 2015 first made a name for himself with his vibrantly colored Pop Art sculptures in 2004. Since 2017 he has collaborated with Hublot creating ‘works of art for the wrist’ incorporating his signature facets and angles to the Swiss watchmaker’s timepieces.

Tancredi, Donnafugata’s red wine with the creativity of Dolce & Gabbana, is back this year in a new limited and numbered edition of the 2017 harvest. The name Tancredi evokes one of the protagonists of “The Leopard” novel, an endless source of inspiration also for Dolce & Gabbana, recalling its irrefutably Sicilian character. In the novel and in the homonymous movie, Tancredi is the prince of Salina’s favourite nephew, fated to live the contradictions of a changing era and to face the challenges of history. The special coordinated image by Dolce & Gabbana is a tribute to “The Leopard”, not only in the choices of shapes and colours, but also in the contrast between tradition and modernity. Tancredi 2017 Limited Edition, the rosé Rosa and the prestigious productions from Mount Etna Isolano and Cuordilava exemplify two Made in Italy excellences.

The drivetrain and chassis have been re-engineered for more urgent performance. Turchese leather and technical carbon veneer contrast with bespoke alloy wheel introduced in the Black Badge house style, carbon fibre barrel, and last but not least, theInfinity lemniscate symbol which continues to codify noir expression of Rolls-Royce. ““n the five years since Black Badge became publicly available, this bold family of motor cars has come to symbolise the pinnacle of a new type of super-luxury product, setting in motion a shift across the wider luxury industry... Today, we announce a product that represents a new kind of Black Badge motor car, one that seizes on the minimalist, Post Opulent design treatment that has recast the legend of Ghost but amplifies and subverts it with the application of black. Our most advanced motor car yet has been reengineered to characterise the alter ego of Rolls-Royce: assertive, dynamic and potent. This is the purest Black Badge motor car in the marque’s history. The Mercedes-Benz Concept EQG is a near-production study of an all-electric model, offering a promising preview of a Mercedes-Benz G-Class with battery-electric drive.

The Concept EQG is very much in the design tradition of the model series and can be recognised at first glance as a G-Class. The near-production study adopts the G-Class’ angular silhouette including its iconic elements. Illuminated stripes make the robust exterior protective strips stand out visually. The separating edge of the attractive two-tone paint finish – gloss black on top, gloss aluminium beam on the bottom – runs in the area of the front end directly under the overlying bonnet, thus emphasising this design feature even more clearly. “We’re travelling into the future with the new EQG! This car epitomises the fusion of state-of-the-art off-road capabilities with the dawn of electric mobility that we all need to strive for. It stands for our relentless pursuit of the utmost desire and luxury. For us, the most important thing was to keep the full G-Class DNA but beam it into the EQ age: Like the G-Class but different. Modern accents like the white LED technology and a wallbox on the rear of the vehicle illustrate the difference.” says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group. “We are proud of the more than 400,000 ‘G’s we have produced to date,” emphasises Dr Emmerich Schiller, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz G GmbH and Head of the Off-Road Vehicle Product Division at MercedesBenz AG. “In its more than 40-year model history, the G-Class has always used the most modern and suitable drive technology at the time – from the pre-chamber naturally aspirated diesel of the early days to the AMG 4.0-litre V8 in the current top model, the G 63. Against the background of our ‘Electric only’ strategy, the electrification of this off-road legend is simply the logical next step – and an absolutely fascinating project. Our icon is and remains ‘stronger than time’ in every respect.”

1. Visually, the concept car combines the unmistakably striking look of the G-Class with selected design elements typical of all-electric models from Mercedes as contrasting highlights. 2. Another highlight of the exterior esi n is the at roof rack in high-gloss black. The central element of its minimalist design is the centrally shaped “G”, which is unmistakable in the top view. 3. The front view of the Concept EQG looks familiar, not least because of the typical round headlights. This allelectric variant features a continuous deep black radiator grille.

THE SPARTACUS PROJECT Sajdin Osmancevic envisions what a Bugatti SUV would look like in a unique project called Spartacus. As its name suggests, it aims to push the limits of design that has a stronger and more distinctive character. The entire car architecture is based on the oval lines without which any Bugatti model would be unimaginable.

Bugatti Spartacus is an electric SUV design that embodies a wild spirit combined with Bugatti heritage. The result is a moving statement whose body reminds one of a strong, top-trained soldier, which is what the name Spartacus is all about. The entire car architecture is based on the oval line on the sides without which any Bugatti model would be unimaginable. The line extends toward the front light and continues throughout the length of the car. Lower side view has a pure sculptural appeal, with distinctive rear wheel arch which fades out over the front doors. In the front of the long and high hood is the prominent Bugatti grill, which, together with the lower air openings, creates a homogenous sculpted front. The headlights are sleek, emphasising the vehicle’s silhouette. The rear and trunk rest on a unique oval surface which is a direct result of the influence of Bugatti’s iconic side frame. The lower bumper is designed to meet aerodynamic requirements. The

THE GREATER SCHEME www.audi.com

Like a first class flight, the 5.35-metre-long grandsphere sedan combines the luxury of private travel in the greatest of comfort with a comprehensive onboard experience offering. Level 4 automated driving makes new dimensions of freedom possible. Like a private jet for the road Audi presented the Audi grandsphere concept study at the IAA 2021. The interior turns into a spacious sphere of experience without a steering wheel, pedals, or displays, an the front seats become a first class loun e ith maximum s ace freer ie s an access to all the functions of a holistic digital ecosystem that the Audi grandsphere is integrated into.

As the second of three “sphere” concept cars, the Audi grandsphere concept illustrates the brand’s claim that it is becoming the trendsetter at the top of the automotive industry for technological transformation and completely new, holistic mobility offerings. The electrically driven roadster Audi skysphere concept debuted in August 2021, a vision of an automatically driving GT that transforms into a self-driving sports car with a variable wheelbase. These two concept cars – as well as the Audi urbansphere, slated for 2022 – can be driven automatically at level 4. Audi is working with CARIAD, the Volkswagen Group’s software think tank, toward introducing that technology in the second half of the decade. Not only does Level 4 change the interior space of the traditional driver-oriented cockpit and passenger seats into a spacious lounge, reducing the steering wheel and pedals. It also opens up new levels of freedom, offers everyone onboard individually variable experiences: communication or relaxation, work or withdrawal into a private sphere as desired. The Audi grandsphere concept transforms from being strictly an automobile in an “experience device.“ The autonomous Audi grandsphere concept picks up its passengers with information about

Markus Duesmann, CEO and Board of Management Member for Product Lines at AUDI AG, stated: “Enabling carbon-neutral mobility is one of the defining issues of our time and one that every OEM must answer for themselves. We act on what we believe to be true: that a sustainable business model is key in preparing for a successful future.”

HOLISTIC MOBILITY OFFERINGS AT THE TOP OF THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

Duesmann continued: “In just 12 years’ time, Audi will be completely electric – an ambitious goal that makes us the industry pioneer. By pursuing such a decisive and robust roadmap, Audi’s transformation is rapidly overtaking the planned legal regulations... At the end of the day, we need a more rapid expansion of renewable energies and an even more rapid expansion of charging infrastructure.”

Customised infotainment options are also available, such as seamless integration of onboard streaming from music and video providers that have been previously used. In an additional step, Audi will keep personalised and exclusive options available in the future – concerts, cultural events, or even sporting events that customers are invited to. The Audi grandsphere concept illustrates the brand’s claim that it defines the progressive luxury of the future: for Audi, that includes the option of new high-class experiences, enabled by digitalisation, as well as a holistic approach to sustainability with the goal of carbon neutrality in the near future along the entire value chain.

A REBEL IS REBORN www.thornleykelham.com

Thornley Kelham began life in 2009 as The Vintage & Classic Paintshop. Simon and Wayne set out to do exactly what that name suggested - prepare and paint cars to the highest quality. Aston Martins, ‘Steady’ Barker, mid-life crises, motorway cafes and growing children all played their part.

“Ultimately we wanted to build a company that would embody our beliefs, talents, and experience, that our employees could build their lives around, and that our customers would be happy they chose. To do that means working constantly towards ever higher standards, delivering on our promises, being clear and open in our dealings with you, and just doing things right. And we must be doing something right. In January 2009 there were literally 3 of us, 2 cars and a paint booth. We were fortunate that a handful of customers gave us a chance to prove ourselves. We owe them a lot, and we took the opportunity they offered to prove that our approach could work. Wayne had over 20 years working on wonderful cars to the highest standards for someone else. Simon had worked in various countries building businesses and teams - again mainly for others, but always with a passion for classic cars. We shared a common work ethic and mutual trust, and wanted to put our beliefs and experience to the test. At the start of 2012 we renamed our company Thornley Kelham Ltd, and in 2014, as we enter our sixth year, we are now a team of 28, having added engine rebuilds, rewiring, and full coachbuilding to our list of restoration services. We have built a Machine Shop, added servicing bays and hired a dedicated Service Manager. We have a full time race

THE PHANTOM TEMPUS COLLECTION www.rolls-roycemotorcars.com

Rolls-Royce Phantom, the marque’s pinnacle product, which resides at the apex of the luxury world, has today become the subject of an exclusive and rare collection, the Phantom Tempus Collection. Rolls-Royce states that the events of the past year have caused many people, not least its clients, to re-evaluate their sense of, and relationship with Time. At a moment in history when so much in life seems ephemeral, its patrons are seeking solace in the unique timelessness, longevity and permanence offered by a Rolls-Royce motor car. It is thus the perfect moment for Phantom Tempus Collection – inspired by a mysterious celestial phenomenon and Time.

“As we all know, Time never stands still, waits for no one. manage it, guard it, account for it, weigh and measure it to its smallest fraction. With Phantom Tempus, we have created a space in which those strictures no longer apply – as illustrated by the deliberate absence of a clock. RollsRoyce clients are not bound by Time; the outside world with all its pressures and demands are forgotten. Phantom Tempus is a motor car for those who shape the world as they seek their own place in the universe. Bellwether Industries, an urban air mobility company, announced it attended this year’s Dubai Air Show, where it displayed another working prototype of its private urban aircraft, the Antelope. The startup recently came out of stealth mode and attended DroneX and the AIRTAXI World Congress earlier this month. Bellwether is now beginning to showcase its vision at these events, where it wants to help break the boundaries of what people think about aircraft and lead the world towards comprehensive urban air mobility. This will incorporate its aircraft, an air transport system and infrastructure. The prototype being displayed at the Dubai Air Show, which took place from 14th-18th November, was the first time it has been shown to the public. It features a different colourway and will have better control capabilities and structural optimisation. The event showcased military and civil delegates from more than 96 countries, as well as having more than 50 hours of thought leadership content across cargo, sustainability, air traffic management and aerial mobility. to unite art with business to pursue and shape a circular economy and culture. Art Enterprise is the demonstration of this willingness: the project set up in Florence by the strong desire of the economist, philosopher and artist Elio D’anna, founder and president of the school, which addresses various cultural themes all centred on the power of art, both as a communicative and economic vehicle. The Art Enterprise project of the European School of Economics

A BUSINESS SCHOOL THAT LOOKS TO THE ECONOMY OF THE FUTURE

Elio D’Anna, best-selling author, philosopher, economist, and entrepreneur, poet and musician, is Founder and President of the European School of Economics which today has six centers in the world including London, New York, Madrid, Rome, Florence and Milan. In ESE, Elio has welcomed Nobel Prize winners, dignitaries, organizations and businessmen of the highest level.

Since its inception, the European School of Economics has always had the aim to offer a different kind of education that overturns the traditional, notion-based education system, a characteristic side of the Italian Universities, moving towards a more deductive path, in full British style. The overall outcome: teaching how to dream and giving back to society the leaders and visionaries of the future. “The European School of Economics is a business school that wants to train pragmatic dreamers, visionary men capable of making the impossible a reality, capable of creating wealth and sustaining it. Happiness is Economics: only happy men can create a stable and prosperous society”. In this vision, ESE prepares students for an education that does not traditionally teach but reminds them of their uniqueness, the creativity that will enable them to govern first themselves and then the world around them. Always focused on the world of economics, finance and management, ESE’s founding pillar is the encounter of different cultures and the desire

Made up of a team that can support companies in their communication, image, legal and fiscal choices, proposing a careful selection of national and international artists who can reflect every need of the brand, Art Enterprise wants to build a corporate art collection: a portrait, the identity of a company. “The artist is not only the creator of his art but also the creator of the world around him, just as an entrepreneur is not only the creator of a company but also a producer of well-being for his employees and consumers,” Elio D’Anna emphasises. “The prosperity of a company, the economic destiny of an entrepreneur, of an organisation, cannot be told only through profit, there is something invisible that generates economy through beauty and awareness. The level of prosperity to which a company can aspire is closely linked to its ability to produce values that survive over time and make its research long-lived, if not immortal” The Art Enterprise project, therefore, is based on the assumption that art will be the driving force behind the economy of the future, capable of transforming an old violent and predatory capitalism into a visionary, dreamy and more productive one, transforming inner creativity and vision into outer well-being and prosperity, as the school’s founder and president point out. “Beyond the financial skyscrapers, beyond the industrial pyramids, beyond the discoveries and achievements of science and everything that we as humans consider beautiful, useful and true, there is always one man’s dream.” Circular Culture Art Enterprise is not the only project activated by the European School of Economics. In collaboration with BAM, Biblioteca degli Alberi, the Milan campus has set up the ‘Circular Culture’ project. Conceived to create valuable experiences for young people and the city of Milan, the project aims to give hope and concrete resources to change the personal and territorial future of Milan’s young people. In short, it intends to create the conditions for young Italians, and Milanese in particular, to go abroad to broaden their knowledge, but then return to put their skills to use. The name Cultura Circolare (Circular Culture) is based on an ideal model of circular economy applied to the world of education, to counter the brain drain abroad without stopping the exchange of ideas with foreign realities. This economy model, which envisages that resources, once they have entered the system, are never lost, but, on the contrary, continually return to it enriched, renewed, and regenerated, in a theoretically endless cycle. Circular Economy also means Circular Culture,

The European School of Economics is a private College of Higher Education without borders, multicultural and pragmatic, fully accredited in the UK and in the order of listed bodies. Students in degree programmes are awarded a British degree from the University of Chichester upon completion of their studies at ESE. ESE offers Bachelor’s Degree, Masters MSc or MBA and Short programmes at its centres in London, Rome, Milan, Florence, Madrid and New York. which drives young people to open up and train (also) abroad, and then return, enriched and matured, to put their skills to use. And it is no coincidence if both concepts are based on some shared principles, which make them perfectly complementary: Sustainability, seen not just as the result of waste reduction but also as the minimization of the ongoing brain drain abroad. Skills, in terms of new production and consumption models that require profoundly renewed knowledge, skills and professional profiles Internationalisation, as circularity necessarily creates synergies and interdependencies on a global scale. We need young, flexible managers who are open to change and multiculturalism. Inclusion on a broader level, who said that what is broken, old and “different” no longer have value? Reintegration and reinterpretation are key. These are principles that, taken together, reflects the founding pillars of the European School of Economics. Where diversity, renewal, inclusion, internationalisation, sustainability, and skills are the protagonists of the social and working reality imagined and fostered by the school. As a result, ESE programs are designed to amplify students’ potential through specific modules and learning activities, exploring themes of happiness, creative idleness and the inner economy. The learning model does not stop at a simple academic preparation in the principles of economics, management, marketing or finance: the goal of ESE is the development of the “Inner Being”, to take care of oneself, others, the whole world and the future. In this vision there is no such thing as any conquests of man, be it economic, social or scientific, that has not been preceded by an inner one. And likewise, the scientific knowledge of a nation, as well as its well-being and the maturity of its institutions reflect its level of consciousness, its ideas and the richness of its values, the strength and nature of its convictions. Based on these assumptions, the European School of Economics provides English-taught educational programs entirely validated by the University of Chichester, with the advantage of appreciating the internationality of the school through the intra-campus experience (5 centres from which you can choose, Milan, Florence, Rome London, and Madrid). Moreover, students can meet an international faculty made of professionals and entrepreneurs in their field of teaching, guaranteeing a perfect blend between the theoretical and practical approaches. Finally, the Internship Department plays a crucial role in assisting students to identify their objectives and learn how to exert their full potential.

www.tecnomar.com Several firsts set the “Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63” motor yacht apart. The Italian Sea Group worked with Automobili Lamborghini for the first time, drawing inspirations from the Sián FKP 37, the first-ever electric vehicle by the supercar maker and which also happens to be the most powerful one produced, with 807 bhp. For this new addition to its Tecnomar fleet, The Italian Sea Group combined its know-how in design, materials and construction to bring the ultimate performance and pleasure on the water. The Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 reaches 60 knots, powered by two MAN V12-2000 hp engines. This is the fastest motor yacht in the Tecnomar fleet. At 63 feet in length, it weighs only 24 tons. “We present Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63, a motor yacht which will became as futuristic an icon as the car she is inspired by,” said Giovanni Costantino, Founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group. “Selected owners around the world will own not only the fastest Tecnomar motor yacht in the fleet, but a Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 masterpiece. I’m proud that we have chosen to create this

innovative and challenging project with Automobili Lamborghini, which links technology, supreme design, quality and performance. If I had to imagine a Lamborghini on water, this would be my vision. I’m delighted to celebrate this successful collaboration.” The inspirations on board this motor yacht include the steering wheel, modelled after the Sián FKP 37, and the operation of the start/stop switch which is exactly the same as how to start a Lamborghini. One can also see the design of the flip cover of the engine switch of the vehicle on the fixtures of the captain’s seat. The shape of the bow pays tribute to Lamborghini’s Y-shaped front, and the equally iconic hexagonal lines highlight the sleek interiors on board the motor yacht. The hull and superstructure have been expertly developed by The Italian Sea Group’s naval engineering specialised in hydrodynamic sciences, with a nod to the Miura’s and Countach’s designs. One can sail in complete comfort as the hard top provides protection from the elements, without sacrificing the need for speed. And just like a Lamborghini, the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 owner can personalise everything from colours to materials.

FROM HAMPSHIRE TO THE HIGH SEAS www.tonycastroyachts.com

Tony Castro’s career started with racing yachts and his designs have won no less than fi e world cha pionships he Sloop was de eloped in order to reach the li it with the largest possi le sailing yacht Tony Castro Yacht Design has completed over 500 motor and sailing yacht designs. Today there are over 10,000 of its boats on the water. With unrivalled and proven in-house skillsets for exterior and interior design, underpinned by solid and experienced naval architecture resources, it caters to every production and custom yacht design. The studio is set in the beautiful sailing village of Hamble in Hampshire. Operating from a traditional thatched manor house, it provides an ideal environment to create high quality design-work and the friendly atmosphere helps to build good relationships with clients.

From the early 1970s when Tony received his BSc in naval architecture from Strathclyde University and an MSc from Glasgow University in Aero/ Hydrodynamics, he has amassed a wealth of experience through the design and engineering of some 500 yachts, working with some of the top yards worldwide in all materials, from classic timber to advanced composites. Embracing the benefits that new technology brings, he and his team have extensive experience in utilising the latest software to create automotive quality 3D surfaces, Collaborative Project Management, Virtual reality visualisation, CAM / CAE machined tools and video conferencing. The addition of Oculus Rift technology to their extensive 3D modelling capabilities enables realistic walks through yachts very early in the design process, allowing clear reviews of volumes, heights, sight lines, stairs and more - opening new capabilities to evaluate design for production, potentially reducing assembly and manufacturing hours. That said, clients can have all the latest design tools at their disposal, but at the end of day all this technology is only as good as those who use them. “This 62m design was developed in order to reach the 500GRT limit with the largest possible sailing yacht. Above this limit the rules become more onerous and the yacht is more expensive to build and operate. We wanted to design a sleek and sexy performance sailing yacht on the one hand and on another a layout and deck space to be enjoyed at anchor in your favourite idyllic location,” the design team expresses. The main deck saloon and outside space are all in one level, with excellent visibility incorporating a shaded area for seating and eating that can be closed or not, as the weather dictates, even air conditioned. The interior layout is for the usual 12-passenger capacity, with a large owner’s quarters and five guest cabins plus 10 crew. Every conceivable feature for enjoyment on board is included, two large tenders, splash pool and more. A retractable keel gives the yacht the power and stability it needs to become a serious performance yacht under sail, and yet access to ports and to be able to anchor close to the shore.

A BRIGHT STAR IN THE SEA www.tankoa.it

Limited production, attention to details, use of the latest technologies, precision, rich specifications, ethics and emphasis of the Italian shipbuilding excellence are just a few of TANKOA’s values and its vessels which boast a multicultural approach to yacht construction.

Tankoa Yachts and Exclusiva Design partnered up for Progetto Bolide, a 72-metre superyacht, radical both in design and in its interpretation of luxury. Tankoa, launched in 2008, comprises a team of yachting industry insiders who have pioneered a new philosophy of yacht construction. Its management team is proud to have successfully merged business ethics, high quality precision engineering, and Italian DNA in design and flexibility. Exclusiva Design, on the other hand, is one of the most important Italian design studios with vast experience both in design and in the realisation of private and public architectural projects, from the main offices for Gazprom in Saint Petersburg, airport passenger terminals, offices and public buildings, and residential projects on private islands in Doha, villas and apartments all across the Middle and Far East, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Siberia, Paris, the Côte d’Azur, London and in the Alps. Architect and Director of Design Fabio Mazzeo and manager Tito Taddei, founding members of the studio, have carefully studied the yachting sector to identify Tankoa as the shipyard that is closest to their quality and building construction philosophy. “The approach, flexibility and executive competence that we’ve found at Tankoa is truly rare”, stated Mazzeo. “Tankoa is not looking to produce huge numbers, but to concentrate instead on superior quality, the direct consequence of the passion that permeates the entire company. Therefore Tankoa was seen and is seen as the perfect partner for our Projetto Bolide. I would also like to underline that our technical consultants analyzed the performance of the Tankoa 72 and it was determined to be the ideal platform; this also influenced our decision.” The PROJETTO BOLIDE is based on three key ideas. Firstly, the 500sqm glass surfaces used on the yacht have to blend with the steel hull, ensuring an immediate and uninterrupted view of the sea and the surrounding environment for the owner and his guests. Secondly, the interiors have to be functional, comfortable, innovative while providing the highest level of privacy. The perfect example is the owner’s suite: there is a private bathroom, gym, spa, dressing room, terrace and Jacuzzi. It is a true fully equipped apartment, with

On board Progetto Bolide, 1,500 square metres are spread between 600 for the exterior deck and 900 for the interiors. Another surprise? The steel hull keeps the centre of gravity as low as possible improving sailing performances. Two Roman columns are positioned on both sides of the main entrance in order to sustain the upper structure where the top pool is located. The carbon fibre and aluminium structure weighs less on the entire yacht while offering unobstructed views of the ocean. The rear deck incorporates a private port and arena that can accommodate yachts up to 30 metres, capable of lifting 40,000 kg of weight. There is a very spacious 300 sqm rooftop/take-off area that boasts autonomous power which can light up and manoeuvre the mega yacht while docking. What’s more is that there are two garages and two extendable terraces that are over seven metres long when open.

DEVOTION TO ROOTS: THE NEW LUXURY PERSPECTIVE

By Donatella Lorato

by DONATELLA LORATO

Entrepreneur, Consultant, Professor, Talent and Executive Presence Coach, Donatella has a broad experience in marketing and training, focused on Fashion, Luxury and Hospitality. She is Campus Leader at the European School of Economics in Milan and she is the Co-Founder of LeGrandMag Observatory, a visionary project aiming at discovering the true meaning of Luxury for all generations, iGener’s leading the way

Today’s high-end consumers seem to be going through a phase: the drivers of consumption are being turned upside down, and the very notion of luxury is progressively changing. Rather than revolving only around exclusivity, their focus is now unique. This is possible thanks to customisation tailored to specific customer preferences, which in turn is fuelling the growing phenomenon of product customisation in the world of luxury. A product can be truly unique when it has an unusual story to tell, a “life experience” that distinguishes it from any possible replica. This then is the fertile ground where vintage products can flourish, further enabled by the development of digital platforms. In more and more categories, consumers are choosing to rent rather than own goods outright. In fashion, the shift to new ownership models is driven by growing consumer desire for variety, sustainability, and affordability suggest that the resale market, could be bigger than fast fashion within ten years. This is a fundamental evolution in consumer behavior, and we expect it will have an impact on the fashion business in the years ahead. In recognition of this consumer shift, start-ups will not be the only players making their mark in these segments - established luxury brands will also accelerate the pace with which they embrace new ownership models to further their relevance to consumers. Meanwhile, luxury brands are raising prices significantly. So, even affluent consumers are looking to alternative models of acquisition for relief. These demands are catalyzing the successes of rental and preowned models. Although established brands have traditionally turned a blind or scorning eye toward secondhand retail, they are now wading into the preowned and rental markets.

The new wave of luxury has seen the emerging of sentimental values as a result of the relevance between roots and history. It is the homage to a long, endless line of good taste and sophistication; indeed, the added sentimental value of these items places them as precious and unique pieces, treated with reverence and respect, giving them a stronger sense, as if they were a talisman. It represents a mix of history, roots and devotion. Old becomes new, enriched and reinvented through. Trends come back to life, in a continuous cycle of tradition and innovation, in the value of personalised excellence.

190

OBSERVATORY

In a context where consumers are getting more and more used to the philosophy of pay-peruse, the world of luxury is discovering new approaches to consumption and seeing new business models emerge. To earn or convey a certain status, people no longer need to possess an object; they simply need to be able to get it when they want it. In the wake of this new demand, luxury rental platforms are proliferating, and digital products will probably reinforce this trend in the sphere of social networks. So the “everything as a service” business model has even infiltrated the luxury market. And access-based consumption has various interesting facets. First, it allows a broader audience to get acquainted with luxury brands, to try them out, albeit for a limited time only. The effect is that customers are gradually being educated on luxury goods; this could play a major role in building loyalty in the long run. Second, the pay-per-use option in luxury goes hand in hand with another essential development

Luxury is either the result of wealth or makes it necessary; luxury corrupts simultaneously the rich and the poor, the former by ownership, the latter by covering. Jean Jacques Rousseau - The Social Contract path in the industry: sustainability. Opting to rent a luxury item appears to be the preferred choice especially of younger targets, not only because renting allows them to spend their money on other experiences, but also because it helps reduce the carbon footprint of one of the industries that by now is notorious for its dramatic contribution to global pollution. This awareness makes temporary consumption an even more attractive option in the eyes of people who are keenly aware of environmental issues. The broader impact is an amplification of this behavior, as young people share their choices in their online communities rather than trying to hide the fact that their fashion is coming second hand. From environmental concerns to a new wave of minimalism, wealthy consumers are shifting toward the economy of sharing rather than the absolute ownership of luxury goods. It’s been called the end of ownership -consumers forgoing personal possessions in favour of renting and borrowing items. The sharing economy and the notion of consuming without having to buy have certainly reached new demand levels. People are simply becoming less interested in owning things, but still, want access to things and experiences that bring them joy and excite them. It can be easily seen that shortterm renting and sharing provides an effective way to lighten the load of one’s belongings, give access to previously unattainable luxury items, minimise an individual’s contribution to the global culture of “things” and lessen the negative environmental impacts of mass consumerism. This trend is partly driven by the young generation’s hunger for newness while embracing sustainability. This is especially true for young consumers caring about the environment as nine in ten Gen Zers like the idea of buying pre-owned apparel. The distinction between owning and renting is a slippery one. The emotional and cultural meanings of the two practices do not always map onto their economic functions. This creates opportunities for a kind of arbitrage – allowing businesses to extract higher payments from consumers by presenting a transaction as a purchase or rental, depending on what consumers value in the context. However, within the luxury world, there is a combination of framing effects and cultural meanings that still associate ownership with wealth. As the middle class approaches the world of renting, including it as a habitual behavioural practice of the consumer, the distancing from the luxury product will be re-established, which will assume an additional intrinsic value thanks to the importance of possession.

Sophisticated lines and architectural use of windows give the below 500 GT yacht an edge. It combines kite sailing with a low resistance aluminium hull and optimum consumption of diesel engines. Efficiency over the entire speed range is accomplished by waterline entries, a high slenderness ratio and low wetted surface area due to a round hull shape. Wave reduction also increases comfort on board. A well-proportioned daggerboard is applied to enable the yacht to make full use of the kite propulsion system at closer wind angles. The superstructure will be carbon fibre for minimising the weight. ICE Kite has 17.4 knot maximum speed with 2 X 735 KW main engines.

“From the importance of an organised and designated work space and how it can affect our proficiency when working from home, or just simply how the light effects our mood are all factors changed by the way we chose to decorate our homes.“

“Natural lighting will make your home feel larger, so...attract as much sunlight into your home. If necessary, add track or recessed lighting... To give the room more depth, make sure your light sources are spread evenly around rather than relying on overhead lighting.”

“Similar to ‘invisible’ mirrored surfaces, glass is also a fantastic choice when creating an illusion of space as it allows light to travel freely through a room whilst looking less heavy and imposing.”

“Mirrors not only will brighten up your home, but create an illusion of space by creating a divide in a solid wall. Other options I love to use in my work is mirrored furniture and accessories, which will match almost any colour scheme.”

Not only are rugs a fabulous way to accessories a room without taking up any space (and a great way to cosy up a home), they allow for something I call Zoning. Zoning is just as it sounds, creating zones within a home that separate sections of a room.

For example; your living room and dining room share a space - there is no partition or wall between them. By adding a large rug under the sofa and overall living area, you are creating the feeling of a different mood and separate space to that of your dining room.

A STORY. A STORY OF LAMPS.

It all started in a small laboratory in the historical centre of the Italian town of Piacenza during the late 1980s. Davide Groppi was inventing and producing his first lamps and decided simply to use his own name for the name of the company. Creative independence and passionate, unconventional management have allowed him, over time, to learn and develop his own brand of original and unique products, currently distributed the world over. Simplicity, weightlessness, emotion and creative invention are the fundamental components of each lamp or lighting project designed by Davide Groppi. Davide Groppi creations are never conceived as just lights or lamps. They come about through the need to give life to something that is necessary or significant. Some of the things that inspire these ideas are works of art, ready made objects, magic, the desire to make things with his hands or simply the urge to play and have fun with light. Light in the hands of Davide Groppi is a wonderful way to seduce and excite. TOP TIME-HONOURED HOTELS TODAY International hotel consultant Jacques Levy-Bonvin once wrote: “The history of hotels is intimately connected to that of civilisations. Or rather, it is a part of that history. Facilities offering guests hospitality have been in evidence since early biblical times... Around 1200, staging posts for travellers and stations for couriers were set up in China and Mongolia. In Europe, or more precisely in Belgium, l’ Auberge Cour Saint Georges opened in Gant, while the Angel Inn was built at Grantham in Lincolnshire, England. In France, at the beginning of the 15th century, the law required that hotels keep a register. English law also introduced rules for inns at that time. The industrial revolution, which started in the 1760s, facilitated the construction of hotels everywhere, in mainland Europe, in England and in America.”

GRAND HOTEL ET DE MILAN www.grandhoteletdemilan.it Via Manzoni 29, 20121 Milan, Italy Opened in 1863, the Grand Hotel et de Milan preserves all the charm of an ancient Milanese “house”, a project entrusted to the architect Andrea Pizzala, known above all for having created the Galleria De Cristoforis in 1831. Towards the end of the 19th century, the hotel was the only one in the city furnished with postal and telegraph services. It had about 200 rooms, a “Stigler” hydraulic system lift (still in use today), a little Winter garden and lavishly furnished dining rooms.

The Ritz Paris counts 16 unique Prestige Suites. Each one is like a little excerpt of what makes private Parisian mansions so special, and pays tribute to the illustrious guests who will forever embody the history of this iconic address. In Suite Ernest Hemingway, the carefully stocked library is a central feature of the living room, while littleknown photographs of the famed journalist and correspondent give the space true cachet. Suite F. Scott Fitzgerald is dressed in variations of gold fabrics and silks. The carved woodwork and padded velvet seats delicately highlight the black and white works, as well as shots of the dandy globetrotter. Suite Coco Chanel, like the iconic designer who decorated her suite herself in her day, is done entirely in black and white. There are photographs, drawings and works of art that originally belonged to the designer and are mostly unfamiliar to the general public. With its mansard ceiling, Suite Maria Callas is an intimate refuge worthy of the greatest diva of all time, in a colour scheme of powdery pink and pastels, with views from the Eiffel Tower over the rooftops of the capital. Suite Charles Chaplin's vista of the Vendôme Column, the double salon, the filmmaker’s personal photos and memorabilia invite genuine enjoyment. Suite Chopin features a painted ceiling listed as a Historic Monument, with a grand piano in the living room. Done entirely in woodwork, like a private library, Suite Marcel Proust is tribute to one of French literature’s greatest writers.

THE GRAMERCY PARK HOTEL, NEW YORK www.gramercyparkhotel.com This landmark hotel located in the heart of New York City has been home to creative minds and distinguished guests for nearly nine decades. The hotel is a modern take on the traditional grand hotel, with its custom-designed, handcrafted furnishings and rotating collection of 20th century artwork, including masterpieces from Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Every room in this boutique hotel features unique luxury amenities -- imported linens, cutting-edge artwork and luxurious care products. Whether dining at Danny Meyer’s acclaimed Italian eatery Maialino or enjoying specialty cocktails under the soaring ceilings of the exclusive Rose Bar, Gramercy Park Hotel delivers exceptional guest experiences. And with a rooftop terrace providing stunning views and a key to Gramercy Park, Manhattan’s only private park, Gramercy Park Hotel guests have access to the very best of New York City. The Gramercy Park Hotel received its 21st century facelift from Oscar-nominated director and artist Julian Schnabel with a distinct Renaissance-revival concept. He was inspired by the vivid colors and artistry of this era, clearly shown in the bold palette chosen for the walls, curtains, upholstery and carpets. Every piece of furniture was specially selected for the hotel, and many of them, like the handcrafted Moroccan tiles and Italian fireplaces, were imported from far-away markets. Schnabel himself cast a more literal hand on the space, forging the hotel’s bronze door handles, curtain rods and bronze concierge table, which retains his fingerprints to this day. The result of the carefully curated, eclectic collection of custom and rare pieces is an environment that is at once regal, relaxed, and ultimately, transporting. Since 1925, it has hosted some of the world’s most influential stars: from Humphrey Bogart, Babe Ruth and John F. Kennedy to musicians like the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Madonna and U2, giving it the legendary rock-and-roll edge it maintains today.
