DEMARI MAKES A SPLASH Demari, 8, benefits greatly from the relaxing effects of aquatic therapy at La Rabida. Demari has cerebral palsy and recently underwent orthopedic surgery to give him better alignment in his legs. He recently began working with La Rabida’s rehabilitation team, so he can return home with more strength, balance and comfort. Ever since his surgery, he has experienced heightened anxiety and muscle spasms in his legs, both of which are greatly eased by the therapeutic pool. Along with his physical therapist Jenny, Demari has regular sessions in the pool to practice walking in the water, pushing off the walls, kicking and moving with less fear. “It’s easier for him to move more freely in the water, which helps control his spasms,” Jenny said.
