We have to start with the family, the history, the dedication to quality. Miller Poultry, a family-owned company, has been producing the highest quality chicken since purchasing the processing plant in 1992. The growth of the business is beyond what the family ever imagined and feel very grateful to employ such dedicated employees. The entire operation is quite complex but without its valued employees, none of it would be possible. The company sells chicken in many local, area and regional store chains, including Kroger, Spartan, Meijer, Whole Foods, Martin’s, Mariono’s, SuperValue and more. The company continues to seek employees to be a part of their team where many opportunities exist. Giving back and being involved in the community have always been a part of the company’s standard. Thousands of pounds of chicken are given to food banks, fundraisers and community efforts to help raise money to fund projects and help feed families in need. The company’s mission statement says it all. To be a company of dedicated and faithful people producing naturally grown poultry in an ethical and efficient manner for consumers who appreciate and enjoy wholesome, great tasting food.

Seeking a new job? Here’s what to look for BY METRO CREATIVE CONNECTION Professionals change jobs for various reasons. But regardless of what’s behind a career change, many people can benefit by looking for things in a new job that can make them happy both professionally and personally. • Salary: Of course everyone would love to earn more money when changing jobs, but there is more to changing jobs than just improving your bottom line. As you begin your job search, consider how much you currently earn and if that allows you to live a life you love. If so, don’t overemphasize finding a new job that pays considerably more than your

currently earn. On the flip side, young professionals who want to start a family in the years ahead should consider the costs associated with such a decision and how the salaries they earn at their next jobs may affect what they want down the road. • Work/life balance: Before beginning your search for a new job, think about why you want to switch careers or companies. Long hours often leads to burnout. If you’re looking for a new job because you’re burned out, try to find a job that affords you a better work/life balance. A study from the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen found

that, with the curious exception of people who work more than 55 hours per week, stress rises accordingly with the numbers of hours worked each week. Keep that in mind if your goal is to find a job that affords you a better work/life balance. • Satisfaction: When attempting to achieve a better work/life balance, it can be easy to overlook satisfaction at work in exchange for more time at home. But studies have shown that feeling satisfied by what you do can have a profound impact on your overall happiness. It’s possible to find an engaging career that still affords you time away from work, and such a career can ultimately pave the

way toward a happier life. • Commute: Bending over backward simply to get to work and then get home from work can have an incredibly negative impact on your life. A study from the Office of National Statistics in the United Kingdom found that commuters, especially those who spend between 60 and 90 minutes commuting to work, have lower life satisfaction and lower levels of happiness compared to people who don’t commute. Before accepting a job offer, estimate your commute time to and from the new office and try to determine the impact of that commute on your quality of life.

The products we manufacture are used in a multitude of products that consumers use every day, including…chrome parts on cars and motorcycles, plated cylinders for the printing industry, faucets, travel racks and other shiny metal and plastic parts that have been plated. Many copper pennies in circulation contain copper made here in Angola!

Founded in Fort Wayne, IN in 1943, OmniSource, LLC has grown to become one of North America’s largest processors, distributors, and managers of scrap and secondary metals. We collect, process, and resell a wide variety of scrap metal. The company ships over 5 million gross tons of recycled steel and 1 billion pounds of nonferrous and stainless-steel scrap annually.

Our primary collections and processing facilities are concentrated in the Midwest, the South, and the Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. But our reach stretches across North America, utilizing a wide-ranging fleet of trucks and containers, railcars, and barges to collect and haul metals. We expect to continue to expand OmniSource’s footprint, deploying our processing assets to cover

new geographical territories, opening new feeder yards, and making targeted aquisitions. Supplementing our company-operated scrap collection sites, we also acquire metals from industrial scrap generators with which we have established strategic parnerships. We have designed and installed customized metals-recycling programs, some of which we manage

ECOVANTAGE LUMBER ST. JOE — “There’s nothing like the beauty, warmth, and versatility of real, natural wood. Its aesthetic appeal is universal, it’s practicality undeniable,” says the opening sentence on EcoVantage Lumber’s website. Without the use of chemicals, EcoVantage Lumber — located just east of St. Joe — treats wood to overcome issues of rot, warping and twisting that happens when wood is exposed to the elements. Chemicals not only do not improve the dimensional stability of wood, chemicals pose potential hazards to humans and the environment. EcoVantage was established in 2007 by partners Allen Holman, Carlyle Holman, John Schmucker and Mike Westrick. Brothers Allen and Carlyle grew up in farming. Allen is a real estate broker. Schmucker is a home builder. Westrick is an engineer and inventor. Carlyle Holman is sales manager.

Jason Holman is production manager and Jason’s wife Vicki is bookkeeper. The business operates with a small, dedicated group of employees. “We take pride in what we do, being on the cutting edge of wood preservation without the use of chemicals,” Jason Holman said. “It’s beautiful wood and it’s environmentally safe.” When they learned about the new way to process wood, EcoVantage officials traveled to Finland to tour sites that featured thermally modified wood. What they learned is that thermally modified wood is environmentally safe, renewable and better than commonly used pressure treated wood. Trademarked as the EcoPrem process, wood is exposed to steam and heat in large kilns from Finland to bake out all of the water, sugar and resins that cause wood to rot and become food for insects. While a relatively new process in the

We take pride in what we do, being on the cutting edge of wood preservation without the use of chemicals,” - Jason Holman, production manager United States, it has been employed for years throughout Europe, Canada and Russia. EcoPrem wood can be used for decking and railing, structural lumber, pergolas, arbors, fencing, docks and siding. “Interestingly, EcoVantage’s products are becoming more and more popular

with guitar manufacturers to make the necks and fingerboards,” Holman said. He also noted that the outfield fencing at Eastside High School’s baseball and softball fields are made from EcoPrem wood. “In the last two years we have provided wood to Under Canvas for decking at camps set up all around the U.S.,” Jason Holman said. EcoVantage has partnered with archidtecture students at Ball State and Purdue to learn more about thermally-modified Indiana hardwoods and how to implement it into applications. “We started out wanting to change the way pine decking was done by offering a non-chemical option to outdoor decking,” Jason Holman said. “Since then, we now focus more on the high-end decking made out of hardwoods or high-end pine, and we even do things with siding, flooring and musical instruments.”
