Scientific agenda Healthy ageing and family household dynamics belong on the scientific agenda of both China and the Netherlands, says Professor Zeng. Willekens points to the joint proposals that Dutch and Chinese demographers have submitted to the European Union. In their proposals, the scientists from the two countries aim to develop technology together enabling them to process large data files derived from large-scale, long-term studies into healthy ageing. As the only Chinese KNAW member, Professor Zeng argues that the joint scientific agenda of China and the Netherlands should include many other important topics as well. “The current level of scientific cooperation between our countries is good,” he says, “and I hope it will get even better. Institutions like the Royal Netherlands Academy and the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences are very helpful in coordinating and promoting Dutch-Chinese collaboration.”
