Ten Tors

This is the training activity for the selected group of 4th Form pupils to develop their skills and work towards taking part in the Ten Tors 35-mile challenge in April 2023. Pupils must be doing CCF on Friday afternoons.

Jazz and Modern Dance

An introduction to Jazz and Modern Dance. Open to all and no experience necessary. You will need comfortable clothing and jazz shoes. These can be arranged at the beginning of term, should you be interested. External teacher. WJS

Junior Play

All 3rd and 4th Form welcome and no prior experience necessary. Auditions, followed by rehearsals this term. Performances will take place in the Summer Term. Backstage roles are also available.

An opportunity to explore current fashion trends, create a response and then present in a fashion shoot.

Beginners ’ Silversmithing

Pupils will learn the basic silversmithing skills to be able to create some beautiful pieces of work. We will be working with a variety of metals to start off with, moving on quickly to real sterling silver (.925). Projects could include making bangles, rings, pendants, earrings, dog tags, cufflinks and more. Pupils will learn how to use the tools needed to work with silver including using the piercing saw, texturing hammer, letter stamps and how to file and polish. Open to 3rd Form, 4th Form and 5th Form pupils. Max 10 pupils.

Chapel Choir - PRIORITY ACTIVITY

The Chapel Choir sing at the weekly School Service and perform in a Cathedral or Abbey Church once a term. The Chapel Choir is open to all pupils who are successful at audition. Any pupils interested in joining the Chapel Choir should see the Director of Music.

The Big Band is one of King's Bruton show case ensembles performing just about anything you can dance to! The band has raised money for both local and national charities, recorded 3 CDs and toured Spain twice. Any pupils interested in joining the Big Band should see Mr Higgs.

Introduction to Film Studies (6 th Form only)

Whilst we all enjoy a trip to the cinema, it takes an understanding of the academic discipline of film studies to truly appreciate the cinema as an art form. In each session, you will be introduced to a different aspect of the discipline of film studies, such as considerations of mise-en-scene, auteur theory, montage and genre, each supported with relevant clips from the world’s most influential films. Every session will combine both lecture and debate as we work to gain a better appreciation of the art of film.
